that works great while you are learning. once you start getting good you will realize a cheap used tire SUCKS. they are incredibly inconsistent, dont last long and generally suck all aroundwhen you start having prolonged drifts (10+ seconds) you will realize what i mean by inconsistent. all of a sudden they can eithre GAIN or LOOSE traction almost instantly. ive had both happen and it can honestly be dangerous. if your speeds are up and you are going around a corner with no runoff or "out" if things get out of control bad things can happen if you spin or catch traction. its all about prefrence and your budget. my tire WAS the Falken Azenis ST115 but they are no longer made. Ive also run on Hankook's and a plethora of other tires. as a noob tires dont mean anything, just get the cheapest you can. get 5 good events under your belt then start worrying about what tires to run.

i still run poop tires in the rear, but i understand what kamin means.I tried Azenis RT-615s up front and Dunlop Direzzas in the rear and that worked out GREAT. but for the most part, i still run econ tires cuz they're cheaper.

WERD. One thing you didn't mention that I am sure you meant to: Running crappy rear tires also sucks because they don't grip as well. You have to take corners wider and slower because of them, and often end up swinging so wide that you loose a good line. This problem has plagued me at my last few events, but I can't afford good tires yet, so I'm just trying to make it work.

The new Falken 452's work pretty good for drift. Our driver ran them at Drift Fury in Atlanta and he liked them. He had been running on ST115's until they quit making them. The 452's are a little grippier.Direzza's work very well too.

i had a set of michilin's i couldnt destroy. i had to sit and do a burnout for 3 minutes, stopped, then the tire finally melted. normally i go through a pair in 20 min, these were very consistant with traction too.

i get mine from work.. i got a job at a wheel shop so i could get all the free tires i could ever want..lol..but seriously.. when the time comes and for competition a good tire works wonders.. i like falken 512s and hankook ventus.. wynstars are cheap and awesome too. sumitomo htr 200 is a good one.. all those are cheap tires that offer good grip but still manageable to keep sliding.

junkyard tires are the way to go if you are just learning. after you start getting really good, you need to be burning the new tire labels off.it's one of the best ways to start getting really consistent. it's nice because you know what to expect and how they are going to react. i loved azenis st115's with all my heart, but i've been out for a while, i don't know what you whippersnappers are using these days.

I'll be driving about my 7th event this weekend, and I agree on the nicer tires thing. I try to spend about 30-50 a tire for like new, used tires. I typically look for the same size 225/45r17 and something with a decent grip. but I can't lie I just spent $40 bucks on 4 crap tires that I'm going to burn up at a new oval I'm trying out tomorrow night. Might get paid to do demos there.

If you are just starting out , use crap tires. Once you get better , you will need more grip wich means better tires

I so far <3 falken 512's up front great traction when sidewayz ...so far the best junk tires ive used in the rear...are potenza's RE series :D the let loose quick but yet you got control sideways

if you can afford them you are really gonna want the best tires you can get. the better the tirethe faster the drift(as long as you have matching # hp) i put pixie dust on my tires for added grip cause its cheaper than using expencive ones

If you go to some tire places they will let you have tires that their throwing away for free. A lot of the time they have to pay to get them removed so some places will let you have them. I know there's a place by me that does a lot of tire work and the just have a Big A** dumpster that they fill up with tires and then it gets taken away on some occasions. Or you can always ask all of your friends/family if they're getting new tires and take their old ones if they're the right size.

Just like in racing, The symptom of going wide is early apexing. If oyu know you are going to be wide, You should start your drift earlier , therefore hitting the apex later in your drift.

I am tired of burning through used tires in just a few runs...I went to an event and ran through 2 sets of rear tires and 1 front TOO QUICK
I am going to start getting only Federal SS595's, every pro-am guy there was using the federals and this guy in a beastin' a** 350Z only used 2 sets of Federal SS595 rear tires the whole day

im using yokohama Advan Neova (ADO7) up front and eco tires in the rear. The Neova is a great drift tire.(ADO7) are maiking way for the new (ADO8) which should be just as good.

just make sure your running nice tires up front.
Bad front tires with good rear tires=understeer like a b****Last sunday I was running used s-drives on the front and new RT-615's on the rear and was understeering like a b**** even. Swapped the fronts and rear still ran into it a bit. Then switched to proxes up front and crap in the rear, worked like butter. I was real surprised I was understeering with the new RT's up front.

I just bought some nankangs for pretty cheap, but they are on my good wheels so I probably won't be drifting with them. My last set of federals lasted a while, about a year of street driving (a few burnouts lol) and then about 5 laps on the track.Most people I know run Federal 595's.
