Greetings. So I got my KA long block back last week and got around to doing a valve adjustment last night. Measuring the clearance between the cam and current shims on the INTAKE side I got readings from dead on to almost totally no clearance and then all the way up to twice the required distance. Checking the EXHAUST side I could only get one reading and it was really tight, as the other seven (7) were slightly depressing the valve.
I did everything exactly as the FSM stated (with the exception of the warm motor) TDC (with the cam lobes facing out on cyl #1) for the first set. Rotate 360 do the other eight.
The exhaust valves are the Supertech INCONEL .7mm oversize. The intake valves are the Supertech Intake .5mm oversize.
There are stock cams, I have Crower Stage II cams on their way but from what I have read about the Crowers is the base loop is the same so no shim adjustment will be needed.
Should I buy the smallest shims from nissan, install them on all the valves where I can't get a reading and measure from there?
Also I know the FSM recommends that the engine be WARM when doing this check and there is no way for me to do this... I just didn't want to slam my new JE Pistons in the oversized valves and bend them when I first turned the motor over.
