Short version: Can't get brake fluid container into brake master cylinder. HELP!

A while ago I changed my brake master cylinder on my 91 240. I connected it to the booster fine but I can't seem to put the brake fluid container all the way into the cylinder. There are two rubber pieces that go in between the container and then cylinder. If I put them into the cylinder first then I can't get the container to snap in. If I put the rubber pieces on the container first, then I can't get the rubber to fit into the cylinder. Is there any trick to this? By the way, I was pushing pretty hard.

I am not a fan of bumping my own posts but I need to get my brakes working by Monday. Should I have posted this in the 240 technical forum?

In case anyone searches, I got it to go in. I first put in the back rubber seal and then put the container into it by twisting it around while pushing. For the other seal, I put it into the cylinder half way, then put the container into it, and then pushed the seal in the rest of the way.

I thought of this later. Another way to do it could be to put the seals in the freezer and that might make it easier.

Did you use a bit of brake fluid as a lubricant?

I did at first, but not really when I finally got it in. There might have been some fluid left on the rubber pieces but not much.
