Long story short. T25 blew out. Now one thing led to another and I have the whole 9 yards now heh. GT2871R + 740cc + Z32 MAF + Enthalpy

I love it when boxes from parts start piling up in my room...

Yes, I am officially broke now.

Z32 MAF + Apexi filter + Tomei pigtail

All turbo gaskets

DeatschWerks 740cc w/ flow ratings. Awesome.

GT2871R T28 style. Compressor inlet pipe cut and re-welded for redtop. Greddy compressor outlet pipe to work with S13 hot-pipe. Megan O2 housing.

From the outside it just looks like a T28... sleeper (that's what I plan to tell people)

Dual Ball Bearing CHRA

Enthalpy tune. The chips even have my initials on them haha.

I can't even go to sleep anymore... I need to slap this thing on ASAP...

Wow. I hope I can make mods similar to that in the future (like this time next year). Keep us updated on your progress. Also, what made you go with that turbo over the GT28RS?

GT2871R (.62 a/r ex housing) over GT28RS

because they have similar lag but GT2871R has better top end feel and more power

BTW, that turbo is identical to HKS GT-RS minus the GT-RS tag and the price

So the first thing I did was to make Z32 MAF fit using the stock intake hose.

Notice the size difference between Z32 and S13 MAF

The filters are identical... Z32 on the left SR on the right (only used for 2k miles...)

The mounting points are different.. Why you NEED to get a Z32 Filter

Ok so on to the air hose... Notice how the SR intake hose will not just fit on to the Z32 MAF

Solution: 3" -> 2 1/2" Coupler + Steel section

I got the steel section at a local AutoZone in their exhaust section. They sell bunch of little steel sections like this. For your reference... Size is about 2 5/8"

All assembled

I will probably cut that steel section shorter.

I feel you. I looked at the price tag though. I was thinking of doing the FPBig28 upgrade on the T25 from the stock SR20 Redtop. But now that you mention it, it does seem like the logical choice. Sorry I asked a stupid question.

BTW, thanks for posting those pix showing the Z32 vs SR MAFs. Now I know what to look for. You da man. Looking good. Keep us up to date bro.

Where I got the turbo. Hybridynamics is awesome. Fast shipping and friendly service. My turbo came assembled wrong but they took care of that by sending new brackets and a HKS actuator at no extra charge for the inconvenience. I originally got their Garrett actuator that didn't fit and compressor housing was clocked wrong.

FPBig28 is ok I guess but for my power goal, it would be straining the turbo a bit. Besides, for few more bucks you get GT2871R so why not?

That's what I'm sayin. I need to myself for even typing that stuff earlier. You are telling my nothing but the truth. And I have learned the hard way before about trying to cut corners. Just do it right, the way you want, the first time and be done with it.

Good stuff dude.

BTW, what suspension mods do you have?

Soo... I took my turbo+manifold+lines+o2 housing off yesterday.. Decided to mess around with the turbo while I'm stuck inside today. So here it is...

Ok now you can't just bolt on the T25 oil return flange. You have to widen the hole.

Like so...

Just match it up with the gasket of your new turbo to see how much more you have to grind...

Bolted on the turbo... good time to buy a new hose (5/8 heater hose fit perfect) I bought a foot to have plenty of length to play around with.

Taking the stud off the T25 compressor housing to transfer over to the T28 housing. Instead of using a vice grip... you can use two nuts. Tighten them to each other and use the bottom nut to twist out the stud.

Comparison of the two... I think it's quite obvious which one is the GT-RS

Notice how the two turbos are clocked differently... I am going to reclock the center housing of the GT-RS turbo to closely match the T25 turbo for easier installation. All you have to do is loosen all the bolts holding the center section and turn the center section while holding the compressor and turbine housing still. You do not have to take the bolts out... Just loosen them enough for you to clock the center section.

After reclocking the center section... GT-RS matches the position of the T25 center section.

Also, T-25 does not have a built in oil-regulator. You can see the shaft if you look straight into the oil feed.

Notice GT-RS you cannot just see the shaft down the oil feed. The orfice is blocked by some sort of brass material.

If you look closer, you will find a tiny hole on the side wall of that brass material. That is the built in oil-regulator.

Now, it is my understanding that Garrett only started doing this recently so just check your turbo to see if you have one. If not, you need a regulator if using SS lines.

Now, let's explore how well the stock T25 turbo lines fit on to this turbo.. Also we will see how much bending is required. I am going to use SS lines but I wanted to see how close they are to lining up.

The water feed line... It hits the larger compressor housing...

After a very little bending... Now that doesn't look too bad. I am not sure how close it is to the hole on the block but should line up pretty close from the way it looks.

Water outlet line... No bending done and it lines up pretty nicely.

Oil feed line... No bending and it seems to line up pretty well.

All the lines looked pretty good. I am sure they will require a bit more bending but nothing too major here...

One more shot of the oil drain. Lines up good. Only thing you have to do is widen the holes.

By the way... did I tell you how much I hate using these stupid "ratcheting" wrenches? AAAAAAAAAARRRRG they are so much frustration...

I thought Id take a panaromic shot of the room... pretty damn messy...

Stay tuned...More will come

350 whp is my goal.. I will be happy with that. I think thats about the limit of the turbo. (.64 turb housing)

Then I starting ripping apart my suspension.. hehehe

Wow, 350 WHP is gonna be the shizzle. Nothing like a good suspension though. Going fast in s straight line can be fun, but going fast while cornering is better. Looks like you are gonna have fun with your new toys. Keep us posted dude. Laterz.......

nice dude. that setup is similar to mine. except I have the .86 and the 3" inlet housing on my gt2871r. (it made getting intercooler and intake pipeing waaay more difficult than your is, lucky!)

anyways, you will love it dude.

get the stainless braided lines though. you will regret it if you don't.

Yup.. one of the reason why I got this turbo was for ease of installation and awesome price at Hybridynamics. It was 998 bucks or something.

Oh and yeah I have a set of SS lines coming my way but I did this just to see and to show people what to expect if they are using stock T25 lines.

I've heard some people saying "It's impossible... too much bending" etc etc and I wanted to verify that for my self. My conclusion is that if you clock the turbo the right way then you can minimize the bending alot.
