NISMO-version Versa to be Offered

Nissan has announced that come January it will be offering Scion-like sport package for its Nissan Versa sedan and hatchback. While not going as far into the customizing scene as Scion, Nissan will offer items in the order of shift knobs, floor mats and the like in addition to body pieces that include a rear roof spoiler, side sills, a more aggressive front fascia and foglights. These items will likely be sourced from NISMO, and a special color may also be made available for this new sport package.

Apparently the name of NISMO doesn't carry as much cache as Scion's, otherwise Nissan wouldn't have felt the need to refer to these new optional items as "Scion-like" accessories. Toyota should take this compliment as proof positive it has made a mark in the econo-sport segment.

I'm not sure about everyone else's area, but around here every dealer has had a 'stillen' car. For the most part I only notice a sticket/pinstripe, sportmax wheels, and maybe an intake.

The sport package is a joke, just some low-key sporty accents, like the spoiler and foglamps. What the sport package needs is a larger engine (the 2.0l Sentra engine with some minor performance modifications perhaps?) How about a nicer set of alloy wheels, or sport-themed upholstry?

Give them a break, this is the first year and I think they did allright. You can add the Side Sill Extensions and front and rear chin spoilers to that package. Just set them side by side and tell me which one looks better for just $700.

I'm not sure about everyone else's area, but around here every dealer has had a 'stillen' car. For the most part I only notice a sticket/pinstripe, sportmax wheels, and maybe an intake.

The local lot around here has a VERY poorly installed Stillen body kit... all 3 pieces. The spoiler is painted the wrong gray, and it mounted quite crooked. almost like they didn't try.

I am probably going to trade mine as soon as the new Sentra SE R hits my dealer. I kind of like the idea of a 177hp waiting for me to get on it. Would get the Spec V but I have a bad left knee and the stick shift is out as a choice.

I think you were right, it is pretty much the Nissan version of a Corolla S

Nissan sport packages aren't all that. It's not until you get the SE-R's that it's worth while. Besides how many sport options out there are any more than wheels and body panels. It doesn't say they WILL be sourced from Nismo but only that it's possible. NISMO makes parts that work which is why SE-R's have all NISMO parts to them.

As for trading the Versa for a Sentra SE-R, remember you will rarely see the 177 HP since it's at an absurdly high RPM like most small imports that make sales by stating a high HP that in reality is unusable. However, the 2.5L makes some sweet torque in a very broad power band that starts of relatively low and completely usable. A Civic SI may have more HP but the torque of the Nissan will smoke it, and that's what's important. Couldn't give a crap about HP but in these small cars it's all about torque. WHich is why I pick Nissans in the small car segment.
