Ehh, I don't really think a poll like this is very legit. Like nismo said, there are several good manufacturers, all of which make good tires. 615 is pretty much the best for budget racers, while yoko makes some outstanding, but more expensive tires.

Just look at Car and Driver's Tire comparison a few months back. The tire that won, the Goodyear GS-D3 isnt even on the poll. That tire is awesome, not super dry grippy as the AD07 or BF Goodrich's KD's but its right below them IIRC. The wet traction is where it shines the best, blows those tires out of the water, no pun intended

I'm looking for a gut feel from the NICO members. I mean, out of those brands, which ones instantly means "bad-*** UHP tires" to you?If you must compare tire-to-tire, think of a type of tire you'd put on your car, compare what each MFR offers, and vote -CHet

Where is Hankook Tire? Z212 is not bad at all. Search Car&Driver mag, they had tire competition.

Diff tires have diff characteristics and like diff pressures (like the kumho MX, great tires, came in dead last) so I would be weary of all tire tests. And they also considered price and treadwear as factors in deciding which is the "best" tires, factors that may be important to some while not to others.

I just put some RS2 Z212 tires on my car this weekend. They are amazing. Huge grip, huge response, and great price.

Nah, it's fine. I think the whole idea of this thread is kinda silly myself, considering that most of those companies have a few UHP tires. And besides, everybody knows that Yoko's R comps rock.

I'd still rock the RT615 or Z212 personally. As the Kooks are the only decent tire available in a 225/45/15 that's what I'm purchasing.=) They are also better for the Oregon rain that shows us so much love through the year.=)

I've used ALOT of tires on ALOT of different cars from a Buick GN, tt Supra, tsi, Camaro, s13 and s14, e39 m5, and my c6. For all out racing don't care about wear I always roll on Hoosiers, for some weekend fun S02's, S03's, pilot sport cup, Ra1's, for 2-3 day a week drive 555's, gsd3's,z212, st115. At one point I have had a set of a032's and a048's on my Supra, 48s hold up better than the 32's, if you go in the burm on 32's they are cashed. I always liked the s02 and s03's good predictable breakaway and transition. But if money is no object Michelin will build you a tire to spec with compound of choice, currently have some sport cups on my c6 dd.

Good dry, good wet, not good for snow(what car tire truely is?). Some sizes are back ordered in the st115's so you should act fast if your going to get them.

This list is a mute point due to the fact that Kuhmo, Bridgstone, Yokohama, Toyo, Dunlop, Nitto, and a few others all have new tires either out or coming out. And I would guess most of the people posting on here haven't tested any of the new tires. There are several good wide choices in the 15" size which makes me a happy panda. The new Yoko's coming out will be availble in a much larger diamate range than the "old" ones where. BTW, the 615's can't hold a candle to the RE-01r's, and the RE-11r's are supposed to be even faster (and wider options)

Anything above 45° F, without a aoubt, Michelin PS2. The F1 GSD3 are good also and not far behings.Track tires are throwaway tires, So not really relevant off the track.

these arent pure track tires, they will last quite a while on street, in my experience i go through normal wet/dry summer tires just as fast as people i know go through sets of these tires listed...bout 12-14k miles on street, little less if you do some track time with them| Quote, originally posted by cracker » | | This list is a mute point due to the fact that Kuhmo, Bridgstone, Yokohama, Toyo, Dunlop, Nitto, and a few others all have new tires either out or coming out. |
the poll is almost 3 years old, so yes, we probably could start a new one

Didn't notice the date. And all of the tires I was referencing are a 140 tread ware or higher. I got two full seasons of autox, an evo and BMWCCA school, and a bunch of other people flogging the car, plus a few thousand street miles on my 615's, and the inside edges are just now getting down to the ware bars.

Heh, bit of an old thread, eh?For a lower-priced tire, I'd like to compare the Azenis and the Ecsta XS. For heavier cars (my track car is 3700lbs), I was always worried about the Azenis getting greasy, so I stuck with MX's. Haven't been able to try out the XS yet.

I know this poll is sort of old but it forgot the Dunlop Star Specs and Nitto NT05 which are the hot tires now for auto-x and time attack....I have the Nitto NT05 and they are the real deal as good or better than tires costing 2x as much...like the RE-11 or AD08.

Having purchased personal tires for 44 years [over 40 sets] on high performace vehicles, I've tried dozens of brands and have always ended back up with Michelins. You always get what you pay for especially in tires. My standards for wet panic braking LONGEVITY may be higher than others, not just how they perform brand new but how they react after 10,000 miles.
