This is the end of one of the 3 tabs in the rear. You stick the 3 of these throught the trunk lid slot when trunk is OPEN. The end of the tab has a thick piece of plastic sewn into it. The "strap" part of this will fit the the trunklid gapwith the trunklid closed. The end of the strap--with it's sewn-in thickness--will NOT fit through the gap with the trunklid closed. That's what serves as a rear anchor point.I think the folks at Car Cover world have done a fine job of designing an item around the pre-existing vert platform. As I said in the first post. this platform is NOT as conducive to a "perfect" tonneau as an old MG, Triumph, or Miata. I think it's a good product for what it can be. Don't slam it for what it, by the design of the vert, CANNOT be. Just my 2 cents though.

One more thing: They offer a deal for free shipping if you purchase the cable lock and storage bag. This cover has NO anchor points to make use of the cable lock, so it's kind of a waste. If you've got another use for the cable lock then go for it.

that seems like it'd be just as much work to put on as it would to rais the top. what's the benefit?

Valid question! For me, since it's nice and spring-y here in North Carolina, this lets me reduce the # of cycles of the top mechanism. Also, it reduces the exposure of the top to the elements. I replaced my top a few months ago, and I want to extend it's life as LONG as possible. I also just picked up a convertible boot. I'm a bit leery of the storage of it in the vehicle: the fact that you have to fold the "ears" in to make it fit in the bag/trunk. By "ears" I mean the parts on the sides that run lengthwise on the car as opposed to the part that goes sideways and covers the majority of the top when it's folded down. That's why I pulled the trigger and bought this thing. Some posters have talked about removing their top assemblies for wieght purposes (Sun-belt residents I presume), and this might be helpful to them. Everyone will have their own reasons to do it. Or not. Those are mine.

where'd u buy this? **EDIT: autoanything.com for just under $70 shipped? My only concern is there is nothing stopping someone from popping the cover and trying to steal something/the car. Of course, there's always precautions/situations where'd you can help with that... decisions decisions.

Regarding "Security":There is NO pretense of security here. You take your choices. I had to replace my top when some homeless person decided to take a nap in my vert when it was parked in a parking garage. They cut my top, and stole a cheap pair of gloves, and ONE CD (The newest Liz Phair release). They left my stereo and dash unmolested. I'd have been MUCH happier if they'd broken out a window--that would have been a LOT cheaper to fix than the top. If it's really important, put it in the trunk, or take it inside.

Yep - I never raise my top, no reason to.This will keep the sun off my black seats... I'm pulling out my stereo and hiding all electronics anyway....
