Um, that is exactly what they are saying....it is officially a "Nissan GTR", not Infiniti as speculated.StatixNWH wrote:sweet...but i hope they sell it as a Nissan to give some of the Japanese feel to the US
Its not really a repost.TDS wrote:repost. It hasn't even been a day.
Dang....didn't realize another mod beat me to it Well anyway, from me you get the official wording direct from NissanTDS wrote:repost. It hasn't even been a day.
... its a good thing though!rico05 wrote:I am honestly shocked. I assumed Nissan would act as Toyota and Honda and release its premium sports coupe under its premium branding. Looks like Nissan still has some balls in this country.
Except it wont be released here until early 2008rico05 wrote:

I agree 100% but $50,000 I can afford so when I get back to the states I am buying this car. $70,000 was WAY out of my price range.I think GTR has a longer history with consumers here in the US then does the Phaeton so it will sell better. Nobody was looking FOWARD to the VW supercar.nnkfws333 wrote:I don't know why everyone is glad it is going to be a Nissan. The way I look at it, it might be a disaster. Would you pay 50k+ for a Nissan? Do you think they will give you such good service like Infiniti will? How many of you really can afford a 50k+ car without having to live at home with your parents? I think if it came out as an Infiniti it would sell way more since most people in America are all about brands. Just look at the VW Phaeton.....just about 70k and it barely sells. You don't see Honda selling the Honda NSX over here do you? Its the Acura NSX.
The only good thing that can come out of this is Infiniti has potential to create maybe a G45 or some sort of V8.
Agreed that Nissan is blah blah high seller yada yada yada but explain to me what is not expensive. Also what do you think the general public would think...spend $50k for a BMW M3 with 400hp V8 with the amenities of great service and luxury or pay $50k for a Skyline under the Nissan name. So lets say it costs $40k, then it interferes with the 350Z sales. A track edition 350Z already costs $35k why even have this option when a Skyline is only $5k away?teddy wrote:Actually the Acura NSX was supposed to be switched over and rebadged as a Honda somewhere around 2002-2003 I believe but it fell through.
Secondly..who said this is going to be a 50k+ car? It's good that it's going under the Nissan name bc of it's heritage, and because Nissan is one of the top 5 selling car company's in the US. People will still buy it, and being under the Nissan name may make it not as expensive as people originally thought.
From the press releases..the Gt-r is not going to be some luxury sedan that happens to have 400hp. It's going to be a true sports car to pick up where the r34 left off, which is why Infiniti is not picking it up.
Yeah I hear $70k too but I just say $50k+ since no one knows for sure. I agree the GTR is going to rape the 911 but then again, a Porsche is a Porsche. I love this comparison. If drive up in a 997 911 Turbo to a lets say a Play and you wear sneakers and a t-shirt, no one cares how you are dressed because you drive a Porsche and you have class but you come up in a Nissan whatever, everyone is like whatever heheHashiriyaS14 wrote:Ok, I'm not sure where all this $40-50k BS is coming from......
I have repeatedly heard $70k as the price target, which sounds about right to me.
I mean, if you think about it, this is squarely Corvette Z06 competition, and that sells for $70k.
It's still a huge bargain compared to the 997 911 Turbo, which will be comparable from a performance standpoint, but about twice the price.
I'll be ASTOUNDED if this thing comes out at $50k....I don't think they can pull that off. I'm guessing $60k at the lowest.
Infiniti is a LUXURY brand. I think Nissan makes that very clear by badging the GT-R as a Nissan. I'd imagine selling a NSX next to a Prelude is more difficult than selling a GT-R next to a Z33. The new Skyline fits into the current Nissan lineup better than the NSX fit into Honda's.nnkfws333 wrote:I don't know why everyone is glad it is going to be a Nissan. How does the Skyline fit into the Nissan lineup rather then the NSX into Honda? They are both super cars with a price tag Im sure gonna be 50-70k. Just because it was badged as a Nissan over in Japan but so was the NSX badged as a Honda. I guess most people wouldn't feel anything if they bought a 50-70k car car under the Nissan name but if you put it under the Infiniti name people would. Also thats a big price gap from 30k for a Z33 to a GTR for 70k thats no comparison at all.IWannaS15 wrote:Infiniti is a LUXURY brand. ...I dont know what VW was thinking. The Phaeton is a great car, but its not 10k better than the Audi A8. I think thats why Ive only seen 2 of them on the road...
the engine is rumored to be a v8, twin turbo charged, awd....i think it was estimated at about 450+ hp. assuming that they still use that engine. it would be hot if it were an rb38dett or an rb40dett...thats just me.thekage wrote:What is the engine rumored to be?
It has already been confirmed to be a VQ series engine. Displacement is still unofficial. It will either be a 3.3, 3.5, or 3.7 liter.Nick240sx wrote: the engine is rumored to be a v8, twin turbo charged, awd....i think it was estimated at about 450+ hp. assuming that they still use that engine. it would be hot if it were an rb38dett or an rb40dett...thats just me.
