I was just wondering how does one go about removing the rear wheel studs. I need to do this to replace the factory ones with peak performance studs. Thanks

Take off the hub, put the hub in a vice, hammer old ones out, and the new ones in. Make sure to line up the splines.

make sure you don't EFF up the bearing, its not impossible to do. Support the back of where the stud goes and leave the bearing part hanging, don't just put it on the ground and hammer away.

Searched and found this thread. I was able to hammer out front ones and replaced them with no problem yesterday. It was 3 min work. But for the rear, I don't think I can just bang them out. There's no way rear studs can come out unlike front ones. Do I have to remove hub to do this? I own S13. Thanks!!!

Assuming you have the brake calipers and rotors off, you should be able to do the rear the same way you did the front, you may just have to spin the hub around because there is only one spot that it can slip out.

Oh! I didn't take off the brake caliper. I'll look at it again tonight. I guess both rear wheels need to be up in the air to spin unlike front. BTW, mine is convertible with ABS rotors and pads without actual ABS. They just installed slightly bigger brakes for the extra weight vert carries. Maybe that's why I didn't see any space where the stud can slip out? Thanks for your help.

Were you trying to bang the studs thru the rotor and the hub?!? Definitely need to remove the caliper, then rotor.

Ive also heard that putting the hub and studs in the freezer overnight can make it easier to install the studs. It should make removal easier too. Of course, you gotta more time to remove the hubs from the spindle...

Sure I'll take off caliper and rotor for the rear. I did that for the front. I removed rear wheel and tried to find space where rear studs can slip out, but didn't see any. Knuckle was blocking the way. I'm afraid that I might have to take off rear hub which I don't want to... I appreciate if someone can confirm this.

Put the studs in the freezer, leave the hub in the sun.

Front is done. Last night I replaced all front studs with Nismo 50mm ones. Two front studs were cross threaded, so I decided to replace all with Nismo ones. Everything went smooth and it was a easy job. For the rear, I'm still waiting to hear from someone with experience. If no one responses, I'll just go ahead, remove calipers and see what I can do tonight. I have S13... I hope there's a way I can do it without removing the hub.

Did it to my friends car about 4months ago when a shop cross threaded 3 studs.

Did you do the rear? If so, how did it go?

I'm telling you if you pull off the rear rotor and caliper, there will be enough room to knock the stud out.

When I took off my rear caliper, I left the rotor in it, so that I didn't have to bleed the brake lines when I was done. To do that you do have to almost slide the caliper off teh rotort, leaving just the end of the rotor in the caliper. This will give you just enough room to slide rotor forward off of the studs. Just now come to think of it, you probably won't be able to put the rotor/caliper back on the same way if your putting in longer studs.

Also there should be no need to heat/freeze the studs to get them to fit. they will come out with a good size hammer. To pull them in, use a bunch of washers and and lug nut.

Yeah, there was enough room back there. Dust shield was located way back. I took a pic of rear hub. Everything went smooth. I used PB Blaster and all studs came out easy. I cleaned up with degreaser and installed new Nismo studs. Thanks buddy...
