I have a 240sx with super hicas. I don't want the super hicas.

My first tought is the replace the rear end with a regular rear end.

1.How hard is this to do? What do I need to do this? (I can get a rear end at the local junk yard, no problem)

In research of this I've found nothing. I found out about hicas eliminator/stopper/lock kits, but all the links in those forums had dead end links to buying the eliminator.

2.So my next question is where can I buy the hicas eliminator? (I wanna check out the prices, compared to changing the rear end, and see how the kit would install onto the car)

Now I ran into another problem with this. I guess the regular 240sx rear end and the ones with the super hicas uses different type of suspensions.

3.What is the difference? How does the hicas suspension function diffently?

4.With the eliminator on the hicas, would i still need to buy suspension for the hecas type rear end or does the regular suspension work with the locked hicas?

i had the same problem, and honestly the easiest and cheapest option is to find someone in the forums that is parting out their non hicas car and use their rear subframe. i was only able to find two different HICAS eliminator kits, and both were in the $400 range. the new subframe cost me $150 bucks plus the time it took me to install it. dont for get that youll need a non HICAS powersteering pump and resivor. if you still want the eliminator kit, check out SPL, their kit is pretty complete.

Pull the "electronics" fuse in the fusebox to disable hicas.

yeah, but when you pull the fuse, it doesnt change the fact that you have an extra steering rack and a set of tierods in the rear instead of toe control rods...i say just replace the whole thing and be done with it. thats one less thing that could go wrong in a 12+ year old car

^True.

Reading the first post again, I'm thinking that LivingLifeSideways is new to 240's due to the general questions, specifially no. 3.

I suggest driving with and without hicas for a while and getting used to the car's handling and its differences. You might like having hicas. I have a hicas equipped 240 and I still havent disabled it just because I like how it handles and have no reason to.

I'm guessing from your name and want to eliminate the hicas you want to get into drifiting too. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to drift with it. japanesemotorsport.com.au used to have a sub-200 dollar hicas eliminator bar. E-mail them and ask if they still carry it. I didn't see it on their site.

Kazama makes a HICAS stopper, I believe that it replaces the rear steering rack, but you are still left with the tie rods. You can find the same part at SPL, probably for cheaper.

Now I ran into another problem with this. I guess the regular 240sx rear end and the ones with the super hicas uses different type of suspensions.

I ran into this predicament when I was looking for new struts for my HICAS equipped car. It seems that the aftermarket world (KYB & Tokico) do not have a parts number for replacement struts for the HICAS cars. Weird, the stock struts are made by KYB. The rear struts are the same for HICAS and non-HICAS cars.

They all use the same struts up front and shocks in the rear, hicas or non-hicas. I recently just got some GR-2's all around. There isn't any difference.

Yep, I'm using GR-2's all around, they are all the same, hicas and non-hicas. I just forgot to finish what I wanted to say......

To the OP. If you REALLY don't want HICAS and don't ever plan on ever wanting it again, then you really should just do the rear sub-frame swap. It's really not that hard or expensive. I did this swap and for $150 I got a non HICAS sub-frame, all the arms and a differential from a local junkyard. You've just gotta call around, I'm sure there is something near you.And like the others said, just in case you would like some more reassurance of the suspension issue; no you do not need different suspension.

DO IT

I would buy a lock bar if you keep the hicas tie rods essentially you will never have to buy rear toe arms. the lock bar is cheaper than the rear toe adjustment rods you would replace on the non hicas subframe

99 bucks
