OK, so this is one of my first mods to my 2005 350Z, and I figured some of you guys would benifit from the process being shown.

First- FIND YOUR ENEMY!

Yep. Very good. You found it. Chrome is bad, right? RIGHT! I much prefer the Matte/Brushed aluminum look.

Second - Get a grease pen (I used red), and outline the old emblem. Marking very darkly near the ends of the "NISSAN" plate.

Note: The new emblem does not have alignment pins, where the stock emblem does. Mark it now so you can align the new symbol correctly!

Step 3: Compare your emblems! Bright shiny chrome one=bad, brushed alluminum look one=good.

Step Four - Get out some fishing line. Work it under the double sided tape holding the old emblem off. GET GLOVES, it requires quite a bit of tension to start pulling through the tape. I found it easier to start at the top, then sides and bottom. Moving the fishing line back and forth and you go through it also helpfull, but can lead(in my case) to shredding /breaking the line. Get at least 20lb line, I only had 15lb line and wished it had been stronger.

Step Five - Once the backing has been cut through with the fishing line, slowly pull the old emblem off your trunk. It should look like this:

Step five - Get that old adhesive crap off the paint! I used my fingernail and some simplegreen. DOn't use anything that may damage the paint. Afterwords someone reccoemended a popsickle stick or plastic/teflon scraper, try it.

Step six - clean the surface -WITHOUT- wiping off the grease pen marks!

Step seven - Peel the backing off the new and improved emblem, and align it with the grease pen marks. Once done it will look like this:

Nice! Now just take the 350Z emblem off and you'll be set. No need for two Zs on the rear IMO.

Yeah, I am undecided on that right now...

I would have jsut left the emblem off (the NISSAN one) if it didnt ahve those dman holes behind it...

I prefer clean looks, hence the brushed alluminum instead of chrome. ANyways, I may remove that, so long as ther eis nothing under it likc the holes or something :p

Welcome to the club ! Id definately recommend shaving off the 350Z badges, it'll look a lot cleaner. They come off A LOT easier than the Nissan emblems. Its just a pain to get rid of the leftover glue residue. After a thorough claybar and couple coats of zaino (or wax), the traces should be gone. (refer to sig)

Shouldn't you heat the emblems? I will be using this guide to remove my S14 OEM emblems.

Thanks

Yeah,

Heating the emblem would probably be helpfull. One thing to remember about it: Your clearcoat can be smeared if heated enough(!!!!)..be very carefull if you heat it up and start craping away...

otherwise, it should help the removal of the adhesive backing of the old emblems..

Good luck!-Chet

Wrong place for it (I think it belongs where the "350Z" emblem goes. Oh, and "Fairlady" is the JDM (Tyte) name for the Z (in lieu of 240, 260, 280, 300, and 350).

it looks like they have 2 options for these:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/M...FRLDC

that's the smaller one to replace the 350Z emblem, and here's the other one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

^^^requires 3 holes to be drilled...screw that.

I'll probably stick with doing an aluminum Z emblem on the front and on the rear, and take off the rear 350Z. Simple, standard, and flush.

Any ideas/suggestions on where to get a couple of aluminum Z emblems for a good price online?

still looks big and ugly to me...

should have shaved it, welded a little piece of metal behind the two holes, bondo, primer, and get someone to match the paint... IMO.
