I think you're good. Mine doesn't say 'sat', but only 'radio' on the button. When you press this, it rotates between the various sources. So, it will go from am to fm - ipod/sat, etc...

I just ran my cable to glove compartment. I leave ipod in there cause I can control everything through factory controls. Very simple no cutting or drilling.

I installed mine over the weekend too (in my '06), but I did not have to disconnect the sat receiver for it to function properly.

i did the install over weekend. It works, but my music stops playing after 2-3 seconds. I thought that they fixed that problem, where you didn't have to unplug the sat to make it work. I called tech support today, and the guy told me that my unit is broken and needs be replaced, wtf?!! Hmm i am frustrated, will try to disconnect sat wire to see if that helps. Did anyone else had that problem? How was it solved?

1) You are correct, and spnelson1 is correct. The front button fascia is only connect via ribbon cable. the actual "radio" is a separate box located behind the radio.

2) It's in the instructions, but Dip switch 1 and 2 are on and 3 and 4 are off for the M's. You have an option of flipping dip 3 on to reverse the order of the Seek and track buttons, but I didn't.

3) There should be certain spaces available in the console , and below the DVD player, under the AC vent the goes tot he rear, but removing all of that is a huge pain in the butt. The top control comes off with 1 screw, and as spnelson1 mentioned, it is very easy to access above the radio.

I think I can answer at least some of your questions.

First, make sure and read the shop manuals from the 'sticky' portion of this forum. It will show you very clearly how to get the center stack apart. It's not hard.

1. the cable harness does connect at the back of the 'audio unit'. The front panel, ie radio buttons, knob and such, connect to the audio unit via a ribbon cable. You'll disconnect that when you remove the front panel. You then remove 4 screws and pull out the audio unit to install the wiring harness.

2. not sure about the 06 vs. 07 for the dip switches. i did set two of them on the unit acording to the directions. i also downloaded a firmware update before i installed it to make sure it was the latest. again, clear directions and installed with no problems.

3. i installed the box on top of the audio unit, there's enough room. just use some velcro. i don't think you can install the box in the console. the cable from the wiring harness to the PXAMG box isn't long enough, if I remember correctly. i would need to be probably 30" and i don't think it's that long. once you've installed it, if you did want to remove it for a firmware upgrade you could do it in 5 minutes or less. probably less. you wouldn't have to remove the audio unit, just the panels to pull out the pxamg box. very easy.

I purchased the PXAMG and NIS2 harness and should hopefully have time to install it in the next few days. Before I do, I have a few quick install questions I am hoping someone can answer...

1) The harness connections... it appears to me that the harness splices in at the back of the audio unit, not the head unit (panel with all the buttons and big dial). Is this correct?

2) I seem to recall that the directions, which I don't have handy, gave pin-switch settings for the '07 M35/45. If so, are the same settings needed for an '06?

Ditto what spnelson said. Your radio is prepped for SAT, even though you don't have a tuner. You should be able to add the PXAMG because it plugs into where the SAT tuner goes.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I think the PXAMG box will work.

I have an 07 with tech package (not advanced tech), meaning no AV inputs on the console. It also doesn't have XM. Does have Navigation and Bose. I think that the head unit on the 06-07 is the same, and is ready to accept XM even though it's not installed.

There's no specific XM 'button', but repeatedly pressing the 'radio' button rotates through am-fm-etc. When you install the PXAMG box you unplug the prewired xm harness (which most likely is already there) and connect the PXAMG harness in between.

Then, as you press the radio button, you'll rotate from AM to FM to 'XM', which is really the PXAMG box. You can then use the tune knob to select either of the two inputs on that box, either the direct digital IPOD input or the AUX input.

So, unless I'm missing something, you should be OK using this product. I installed the PXAMG box behind the head unit, then ran the cables for the ipod/aux connection into the console storage box. Only had to drill a hole to pass the cables in, and finished it with a rubber grommet.

I have similar comments on the PXAMG box. Good sound quality, no real issues with the installation, installed both the direct IPOD cable and the AUX cable.

The only downside I see is the speed of the navigation. It's just not as quick, and as is noted you can't just rapidly spin the tune knob through song lists and such. I guess it means I'll need to be a little more aware of using really long playlists. No other interface is probably going to deal with this any better, so I still think this is a really good add in.

One other nit is that if you're using the steering wheel controls to go up/down songs, and you don't hold it for the full two seconds, it will jump to the radio inputs.

I do use it only for audio, and I think the audio quality is excellent.

The only thing I'm am personally torn about is that I have the NAV Hack done and I have music videos on my ipod. The PXAMG will not show video, just audio.

So if I still want to see my music videos, I would still need to use the RED/WHITE/YELLOW aux post behind the center console.

Otherwise , yes I can plug in the ipod and shuffle through my songs, and see all my playlist on the screen.

So, I read through the entire thread and it seems as though the PAX interface is the best option we have right now if you want to keep certain functions.

1. Control Ipod through steering wheel and see ipod interface on the screen.
2. It will also charge ipod.
3. You can also keep Sat radio and not have to choose one or the other.
4. Quality doesn't sound crappy.

I have a quick side question. Has anyone changed the speakers and the amp on their car? I know that bose makes pretty good house speakers but car stereo speakers have been on the weak side to me.
The last car I had which was a couple of days ago, I changed out the factories and added infinity speakers and a 4 channel amp which sounded great but I had to change the head unit. Don't want to do that here. So if anyone has done system mods other than the ipod interface let me know what you've done and how it sounds. Thanks. Sorry for thread hijacking too.

It works pretty well. Some ups and downs...

The controls take some getting used to, like selecting the ipod interface, manual ipod interface, or satellite radio.

It does keep the ipod charged, but it doesn't turn the ipod off when the car goes off. It just takes it the the charging screen you get when you have the ipod off but it's still plugged in the computer.

You still retain your AUX input, so you can plug something different into the rear of the vehicle.

It does give you two additional AUX inputs labeled AUX1 and AUX2. AUX1 is only of you want to control you ipod manually similar to it being plugged in to your normal AUX behind the center console. AUX is just an additional AUX input for you to add anything else.

So essentially you can have a heck of a lot of inputs in your car now.

FM
AM
SAT
IPOD (apple ipod interface)
AUX (rear seat input)
AUX1 (manual ipod interface)
AUX2 (anything else you want, like a ZUNE, laptop, etc...)
DVD

The only down I see, is not the PXAMG's fault, but Infiniti's. Our radio's tune knob, will only change the channel/selection 1 time per knob turn click. In my previous car, if I spun the crap out of the tune knob, I ended up on the other side of the menu. If I am on XM 20, and need get to XM 140, I need to turn the knob 120 clicks to the right to get there. So I end up just using voice command to jump me to 140.

You can't use voice command with the ipod, so if your scrolling through artist, you literally have to turn the knob however many times to get from AKON to ZUTONS.

Not PXAMGs fault, just the way Infiniti designed the radio.

A plus is that the screen does show all 20 characters. I don't know if you noticed, that with the Sirius tuner, you get all 20 characters of the artist and song. For some reason, XMs tuner only displays 10 characters, something that always bothered me that Infiniti never bothered to correct with XM.

So the ipod, does display all the characters on the screen, which is a major reason many people are going to the adapters, so they can see what's playing on the screen.

The PXA doesn't interface with the car though does it? Someone gave me one of these when they decided to get something different. I tried to repin the harness without a wire pinout using the standard configuration but that did not work. It is a decent device but there are some limitation to that type of device.

What I really wish they had, enough to the point of contacting the company. Is something like the Scosche AXI ( http://scosche.com/products/sf...3/351 ) where the factory controls can be used, this also has scrolling and different playing options, that do not require you to scroll through the device itself.

Now if you want something just a slight step above that I rave about the Parrot products. For some reason though there is no adapter harness for the M. The M does have bluetooth but if you are frustrated with the poor sound quality or lack of iPod or streaming audio like Pandora this is the way to go. ( http://www.parrot.com/usa/prod...phone ). The M has always had mediocre technology when it comes to BT and aux inputs on the earlier (lt;08-09) models. Anything prior to the HDD switch.

After throwing my old cell phone in the trash while in a compromised state of sobriety, I got a new BB and found out that streaming Pandora while still being able to pick up a call is a complete win.

Can anybody offer any comparisons in sound quality between the PXAMG solution and the AUX inputs in the center console?

In my 06 M35, I currently have my iPhone connected throught a Kensington Liquid Aux, which connects to the iPhone/iPod connector on the bottom of the phone then on to the AUX inputs in the back seat. For podcasts the sound quality is fine, but I am disappointed each time I try to play music... there's just no bass at all. I don't mind buying the PXAMG thing, but only if I know it's going to improve the sound quality, even modestly.

BTW, I contacted 'integration solutions' about the PAC box mentioned here, and they said that it's not available for the M35/45 any more. Didn't give a lot of details, but said something about the volume control not working or similar issue.

Sounds like the PXAMG box is the only thing available.

This is a fairly long thread and I apologize but I'm having a little trouble following what would be the best solution.

I have a 2007 M35 with Journey and Technology package. My gut (reading this) is that there's "prewire" for satellite but the car didn't come with it. I'm not even sure it matters.

It seems like there are two different solutions being discussed, the PXAMG product and the PAC solution.

I think I"m like the original poster, in that I want to be able to plug in an ipod and control it from the steering wheel/radio. Does someone feel that one or the other is best for this application?

If I go through 'source' on the steering wheel, I get the preset radio banks then the cd changer.

The dealership here in Austin didn't seem to have any idea. I'm a pretty handy guy and not afraid to dig into this, just don't want to go down a blind alley.

Everything was connected behind the radio. I had to call them to find out about why it was only playing for secs and stopped. They told me I had to disconnect SAT harness in trunk.
I dont have an active SAT, so doesnt matter to me.

The Ipod kit that cmbtrdy1975 used makes the PXAMG with PGHIN2. Its the same company except 1 includes harness and PXAMG does not include harness. You can go to there website and call them.

Yes I did do the firmware upgrade also.

Cool. The adapter you bought sounds better then the PXAMG device because you can keep everything working and still use the radio to control your iPod. I may have to pick up the same one you got.

I think ddynasty1120 is on to something here. I found this on the peripheral electronics website:

In 2004-2006 Infiniti vehicles equipped with factory satellite radio, the satellite tuner will have to be disconnected at the tuner location in order for the PXAMG to work correctly.

It makes no mention of 07-09 my. I'm assuming its the same thing. This is a real turn off especially if you have an active SAT subscription. I almost bought this and don't think I'll be doing it now.

Seems like a bug with PXAMG. It shouldn't be cutting out iPOD if the input is locked on to iPOD when selecting the input.

Why did you not unplug the SAT harness in the dash instead of doing it in the trunk? Just don't connect the SAT harness to PXAMG.

Has anyone had issues with the PGHNI2 wiring harness for the PXAMG in a 2007 Infiniti M35? Instructions are terribly vague with no model specific guidance. None of the connectors match the ones on my stereo.

Cause this kit just uses the sat function. Its like a substitute for SAT. I have sat function but no subscription so doesnt affect me.

If you dont unplug Sat harness the ipod plays for 2-3 seconds and cuts off cause the car still thinks you have Sat on. Remember it takes the place of SAT function.

Cause the M35 has built in ready SAT. I will not be trying to figure out which wire is for SAT behind radio, so I just unplugged it. If you dont use SAT, you have no worries about disconnecting it.

Works like a charm!

? I had a similar issue with a Nissan unit and a newish FX.

Cross model compatibility using the 12 pin connector of the back of the AV unit should work on most models from 96 up. However I had an issue trying to put an Axxis unit in my car a while back, and that uses an 2001 Q45 radio.

The OE unit I was using required the satellite harness plug to be plugged into it then the integration unit to a sub harness and then the sat unit. What any unit really needs is a Y-harness that completes the satellite circuit. From what I found there are two power wires that are available at the rear connector that are different from the front. The pinout and connectors are actually different too.

I don't know what the issue with some of these products is. They are usually plug and play.

Why did you disconnect the Sat. harness in the rear??? The only thing you should have to do is unplug from behind the Head unit and replug into the harness

Had to disconnect Sat harness in rear. Real simple. Sat harness is brown harness below rear right speaker. Go through trunk and remove 5-6 push rivets on right side to reveal rear deck.

I ran ipod wire to glove compartment. Controls it through factory settings.

From the installation descriptions I have read, I don't think anything needs to be connected to the satellite unit in the trunk. The PXAMG module connects to the radio unit in the dash. Just pull out the sat harness from the radio and plug the PXAMG in between. My research show PXAMG interface is probably the best out there in terms of retaining XM/Sirius, displaying song info on the display, steering wheel controls etc. Also, I am planning to add the HDRT module to PXAMG to get HD radio reception. I had HD radio in my previous car and I really miss it especially given the sucky FM sound quality in our Ms. I don't think there is any other vendor who provides HD radio extension to their IPOD modules.

Does anyone know if the radio antenna jack on the factory radio is motorola style? If yes, I can plug in the antenna jack straight into the HDRT module. Otherwise I have to figure out which antenna adapter to buy.

I really do not know if that is the best interface. From that video there is no ability to view the track listing making selection of the song you want more of a distraction than it should be.

I attempted to install one of the OE units (very similar) in an FX and the supplied unit although mostly compatable it required a direct connection to the sat receiver (in the trunk) and is limited to a 1 meter ipod data cable. I did manage to get it to work but in comparison to other units on the market it sucks, and if you are OCD about music (as I am) this type of interface might drive you nuts. You would have better luck with a Parrot mk9200 (much much better Bluetooth operation).

I think if you already have the AV jacks you can easily disassemble the center console and remove the jacks and relocate everything out of sight. You will have a similar interface.

If you already have AV jacks something like this is all you need. http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pieavipd.html It's pretty cheap and you can actually pull the power supply off the power port and all you would have sticking out is the wire you can run through the console somewhere. This will require you to use the controls on the device, but I use my Zune so much I can pretty much find what I want without looking at it. I wonder if the video will display whats on the screen of the ipod?

Yes this will work on the 06/07 (same thing) as long as you have XM/Sirius satellite radio. I believe it mimics the Satellite radio device. So if you don't have sat radio, it won't work. I'm thinking about purchasing this as well. You need the PXAMG device and the PGHNI2 harness.
