If you have the original stalk in there 100% that is bad, R&R that first and go after the next issue but I bet that fixes it. My 84' got a new one in oooohhh, 1995.

I'd have a look at the switch stalk, they are a common point of failure, if it checks out I'd check the headlight and brights relays

OK BIG headlight problem. Yes I know this is an issue on these cars.84 300ZX N\AWhen you turn on the car. The headlight bright dummy light is on and never goes out. The headlight switch does not turn the lights off or on. The driver side headlight is stuck on, and the lights are up (and I don't really care about them being up). They do not go down ever. The passenger headlight does not come on ever. We checked the bulb and light itself and it does work. It is getting voltage as well. All kinda things sometimes work or sometimes they do not. Such as once the AC came on with ALL switches off ! All kinda crazy crap...Push the brakes in and it displays the rear bulb dummy light comes on Saying a rear bulb is out. ---Which is NOT true. All bulbs work just fine and are getting proper voltage. Checked !This also happens when you turn on the headlights to a normal or bright position. The dummy light displays indicating a headlight bulb is out. Again NOT true. Checked !The driver side driving lights are brighter than the passenger side. All blinkers and parking lights work as expected. The driving lights are always on..No matter where you position the switch. Off\on etc.Now when you giggle the headlight switch good and hard ONLY the parking (orange lights) blink off and on. So I know that the headlight switch is a problem. But does this sound like a ground problem elsewhere I have checked very fuse and bulb on this car and ALL are good !!HELP !! I know there is a method to clean and mess with the headlight switch, which I have yet to try...I am just curious that there is something else wrong. I have inspected every wire visually that I can see under the hood. I am just lost as to what to do...
