ok well the Oil swap did not fix the problem and I think I need to replace the lifter solenoid. Does anyone know where this is at/ where I can find the procedure in the FSM Thanks! EDIT I just dug up some info from another search, it could be eitherVTC solenoid, or fast idle engine solenoidIll pull the codes again tonight but there were not any last time I checked. Thanks for all of your help guys.

Hope it works for you as well as it has for me. My problem seemed to be one sticky/noisy valve lifter, that got progessively worse the longer the car sat waiting for a new water pump, timing belt, etc. Adding the synthetic quieted it in minutes, without ever leaving the driveway. Good luck.

What worked for me was about 1/2 a quart of full synthetic (you can feel the difference with your fingers) added to the old oil, followed soon after by switching to Castrol Syntec SAE 20W-50 synthetic blend (it was the cheapest synthetic on the shelf at Target at the time).http://www.castrol.com/liveass...a.pdf Last weekend I started the car (with 177K miles on it) after it had sat again for a month; no smoke, no valve noise and no leaks.Make sure that your engine timing is correct too.

Hello all, I have determined that my Valve solenoid is what is causing all the noise. As I have read, the car sounds like a diesel this part may be the culprit. I would like to try the heavy oil trick, how much of the 20 50 should i add if this does not work, I suppose ill look into getting it replaced but I would rather not spend the money Thanks!P.S.I live right around the corner from Infiniti of Scottsdale, but they did not show the solenoid being available. Ill stop by there tomorrow and check but I think they run around $100.
