I've got a '97 5spd with stock exhaust back to a Dynomax muffler and local muffler shop exhaust tip. It doesn't sound bad inside the car, slightly drony at about 60. You really can't hear it outside the car. It sounds like it wants to rumble but obviously I have restriction issues pre muffler. I want to take out the factory resonator for now till i can afford more. How much louder or more annoying does anyone think it'll get I am trying to avoid the Honda fart can sound. After reading all of this thread I'm kinda leaning to get rid of the Dynomax and get a Magnaflow. The Dynomax is the straight thru design you find at Advance. I just bought my first Max last year and now I see I might have jumped the gun on this.

Its all crustem! I hooked up with a guy at a local Maxi Muffler that liked to tinker. I gave him a 3" Magnaflow polished muffler and 2 180 degree mandrel bent U's that I got from Summit Racing, and he welded it up for $150. Full 3" cat back for less than $400. Ill try and post up some picks after the weekend.

I was hoping for the same thing, but haven't had any replies whatsoever in over a month. I went over to YouTube and searched for both exhaust systems. I found videos for several Maximas with the Megan Catback, but none with the Vibrant StreetPower Catback. I did, however, find other cars with the Vibrant exhaust. In comparing the sounds of the two exhaust systems, I like the Vibrant better. In my opinion, the Megan system sounded more like a "fart can" on a 4-cylinder ricer car. The Vibrant system, on the other hand, had a lower, deeper throaty sound to it resembling that of a mean V8. I am going to purchase the Vibrant StreetPower Catback Exhaust system for my car.

Anyone know the difference (or have any opinions/preferences) between the Vibrant Catback Exhaust System and the Megan Racing Catback Exhaust System for a 1999 Infiniti I30 For those that have either installed, what kind of sound does the system produce I'm trying to decide on which one of the two to buy and would like to know the pros/cons of each. Thanks in advance ...

I had a GReddy cat-back on my 1998 Max SE. Very good quality, good looks - single oval tip - and very nice, low growl. On my '01 Max SE, I could not find a comparable GReddy cat-back. So I researched and found the Cattman. Not quite as 'finished' looking as the GReddy - but superb quality and, again, a low growl on idle and at low speed. Open it up and it has a very authoritative howl, enjoyable, but not so loud as to be bothersome. Good combination with a modified cold-air intake. I'm pretty happy. I'm not a 'tuner' type, but a 61-year-old guy who enjoys driving . . .

I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread yet.I have a "custom" intake (which I'm still working on different setups to see which works the best), a Warpspeed Y-pipe to the stock cat, to 2.5 inch piping out to a Magnaflow dual tip oval canister. To be honest, I'm not too happy with it right now. I didn't put a resonator on...BIG mistake. Its quite loud. Which if my car was a stick I would like but with it being auto it just seems queer. I also am not happy with how it was put on. There is an unnecessary (IMO) amount of bends in the piping and I'm not happy with the angle (downward) of my muffler.Over all though I think it was one of the best mods done so far (mainly the WSP Y-pipe and intake). I want to try a quieter muffler the next couple weeks. Possibly either a flowmaster or maybe just a stock muffler from a 5th gen.

You're right about the Y-pipe.Coming off of the cat (Cat-back), you have a resonator, then the B-pipe, then the rear section. The B-pipe on our cars makes a 90 degree bend (From facing the back of the car, to facing the passenger side, then about 2' straight, then another 90 deg bend to face the rear again). The end of the B-pipe begins to curve upward to go over the rear axle. The "Rear section" then connects to the B-pipe, goes the rest of the way around the axle, then down to the muffler.Hope this helps.

I posted these vids before, but I'll post them again to go along with the exhaust post!!! before y pipe...http://videos.streetfire.net/v...3.htmafter y pipe...http://videos.streetfire.net/v...b.htm

Okay! Well, I ordered the Megan Racing NA type catback model# CBS-NM95.It fit perfectly, except for the fact that the I30 was a bit longer... like 8". There was a gap between the back of the catalytic converter and the front of the exhaust system. I called them and pretty much told them I had a 96 maxima, so they are going to send me an extra attachement pipe (which they should have sent in the first place) for free. In the meantime, I had a custom pipe with flanges on each side to connect the system. My I30 sounds great now!

Nobody in St. John's, Newfoundland was any real help while I was looking, so I ordered from an online source.1) I bought a universal Magnaflow dual tip muffler Part # 142182) A set of ebay tips to pretty it up a little3) A magnaflux resonator Part # 145014) A "High Flow Cat" Part # 91006 Because mine is extremely rusty-looking, and with the new stainless exhaust, it would be an eye-sore. Plus I didn't want to sand-blast a catylitic converter.I'm going to go with a 2.5" custom Magnaflow job coming from a Warpspeed-Y. Has anyone tried to replace the front pre-cat coming from the front header on a cali-spec Is there a problem with throuwing codesIt seems strange to spend the money on a Y-pipe, and still have to put up with the front pre-catAlso, does anyone see any major problems with this sounding like garbage before I get the work done (Probably 2-3 weeks to get everything here....)

Quote, originally posted by brianw Jeebus, I get far better prices than I appreciate (CA-spec 4th gen it's $105 for me, $140 is Nissan list price...). I think you can get that price or close to it from any good Nissan discount parts dealer, check the various sticky threads on "common problems and where to get parts"...I did. The best price I could get was thru Gary.Quote, originally posted by brianw (and $500 for o2 sensors wtf genuine Nissan replacements are $90-125, labor is about 5 minutes' worth...)I have been working 75+ hours a week. I simply do not have time or energy for that.

In that case, it's not worth adding a cat-back exhaust system. I guess the only reason I'd consider it would be for the sound my car would make with it. Although the Hi-flow cat doesn't do anything I decided to purchase it along with the Y-pipe because it was a good, packaged deal. I've now read some posts about it needing an "adaptive learning" period of time. Therefore, does my ECU even need to be resetThanks for all your insight!

vbxmaxima.8m.com has the reset procedure, the FSM does... or you can just unplug the battery... i think it's 2 hours. All the parts work as a system. You'll see 10-12whp and 10-12/wtq with a y-pipe alone, but adding a highflow cat and an exhaust probably won't do much more PEAK hp/tq... you might see 15-20whp and 15-20wtq total. However, the gain at each point on the RPM curve hopefully will be higher than with just the biggest power adder (the y-pipe) installed. So if you've already got a y-pipe installed, the high-flow cat doesn't really add any power to an NA car, the catback is probably only a few whp/wtq more...

I just had my Warpspeed Y-pipe and Magnaflow Performance Cat installed. I don't hear much of a difference outside the car, but inside I can hear and feel a little bit of the "bass" part of the sound. If the HP gain from these parts is about 5-10HP, how much of a gain would I get by adding a Megan Catback systemAlso, does anyone know how long the battery must remain disconnected in order for the ECU to be reset/reprogrammed OR is there a faster way to accomplish this

well the exhaust will give you a slight increase in hp, not much though im guessing around 5 to 10. so it won't really matter what exhaust you get that's my thinking. i just got the megan cause its deep and loud, too bad i gotta keep the silencer on most of the time though -_-. and i have an auto 95. =) personal satisfaction all the way here

I just purchased a Warpspeed Y-pipe & Hi-flow Cat and am waiting for the shipment to arrive. I am considering adding the Megan Cat-back exhaust system. However, I am not too sure what the best exhaust setup is for my car considering my needs. If my car is automatic and I don't plan on racing it, is it even worth adding a cat-back to it I know the Y-pipe is supposed to give you the best bang for its buck as far as HP gains, which is why I purchased it, but I'm only looking for an increase in HP for personal satisfaction while doing my daily driving.
