[PLEASE HELP] my 97 Q45 won't start.. from a car newb..

Hi all,I have been desparately looking for an answer to my problem but I have no idea what to look for mainly because I know NOTHING about cars.. (yeah maybe just tiny bit since I am still a guy.)Anyway, I have 97 Q45t with 170,000 miles on it. One day I started the car and it didn't start (it worked just fine the day before). To be more precise, the car "tries" to start as it makes that starting noise but the engine doesn't get started.. It seems to me that battery is working fine but something that delivers the power from the battery to engine is not working.. (that was my logic)I really don't wanna spend hundreds of dollars with towing and repair costs since I will be using the car only for next 6 month or so...So could anyone help me please

2004 g35 sedan 6mt HVAC problems

Hello, im new to the forums, ok down to business(yes, i looked through old topics, found nothing helpful, and the dealer said this is the most screwed up HVAC system he's ever seen in 30 years blah blah blah)midsummer my A/C stopped working. It was working on my way to work. as i parked, i heard a fairly loud flushing noise. didn't think anything of it. that afternoon after work, the ac wouldn't turn on. I recharged the refrigerant, and the A/C system turned back on, but within 10 minutes the A/C system shut off cuz the refrigerant leaked out again. it leaked out of the little hose underneath the HVAC unit. I did a little research and decided it was either the evaporator, the expansion valve, or a seal in the box.I took the dash apart to diagnose (it was a lot more work that it looked like in the FSM). and to the best of my knowledge, that was the problem (i wasn't able to take it fully down mainly because the car is my daily driver and i needed it for monday in driving condition.come september, when it started to rain again, (i can live without A/C) i notice that my air won't change which vents . its stuck on the face pointing vents. It appears to be a motor/sensor problem on the air mode door. I end up running the diagnosis on the HVAC, and the air mode door sensor and motor fail, as well as the passenger side air mix door sensor and motor. The light sensor (i guess determines how sunny it is outside) also failed. i believe the driver side temp sensor also failed, but i would have to run it again to confirm.I havn't had much time of late (going on business travel weekly) to work on it, so i took the car to an infiniti dealer to have them give me an idea (and hopefully fix it) i talked with the mechanic guy, and he said it'd be about 1300 bucks parts and labor to fix.I get a call the next morning saying that the whole dash needs to come out (thats what i thought the 1300 bucks was doing....) and i was looking at paying over 100 bucks an hour for 16 hours just to remove and install the dash. i have no intention of dropping $2500+ for a car that is worth 11k on a good day according to kbb.so i have my old car that i've been fixing to sell for the past few months, so i might be able to have my infiniti out of commision for a week or so to get this fixed.question i have, is after taking the dash out (a large task in its own) how much of a b**** is it to replace/ fix the motors/sensors, along with the evaporator i looked through the FSM, and it looks like a large trial and error guessing game. so, did me taking the dash down the first time cause the motors/sensors to not act correctly (ie did i mess them up/plug them in wrong/break them) and how does one fix my laundry list of problems any help/advice would be appreciated

Q45 knock sensor job, AKA: i hate my life.

i've recently purchased a 94' Q45, after 3 days of the car running rather sluggish it finally died... ECU rang out the codes for Fuel pump, and knock sensors... changed fuel pump... and i'm in the process of changing the knock sensors... have new ones in hand... after the nightmare of removing the plenum, i discovered that the old knock sensors were brittle, cracked and all around garbage, nothing on this car was ever maintained definatly one of those guy that says "never had to replace anything, just put gas and oil in her!" as if that's a GOOD thing to say about a 14 year old car... worst news ever, all that says to me is, prepare to replace EVERYTHING... my question is, since i have to order new knock sensor harnesses also, because i REFUSE to go back under that plenum once this jobs over... ( and i have to buy like 4 specialty shaped hoses also, since you have to cut them to remove the plenum, FML. ) what can i expect to pay for a new harness, and more importantly besides going to the dealership... where the s*** do i find one!

97 Q45 Bose Stereo Volume Control Problems

The volume control on my factory Bose Stereo unit has slowly over time quit doing it's job. Most of the time it does not change the volume at all, unless I push or pull on it while turning - and even then it is hard to get the desired results. Sometimes when decreasing the volume, it will go up instead - and visa-versa. I'm afraid I'm going to inadvertantly blow out my speakers one of these days. I thought I might be able to pop off the volume knob and spray some rheostat cleaner, but the knob doesn't want to budge. Any ideas Does it have a conventional rheostatThanks

Q45 Injector help

So my #8 injector went out and i replaced it with a blueish/purpleish one from scottsdale. the original was like a whitish/greyish color.anyways since replacing it the q is hard to start but only the 2nd time. so if i wake up in the morning, q45 starts right up. if i drive it somewhere, turn the engine off for a few minutes and then try to start the engine, it takes about 2-3 key turns to start (as if the engine is flooded). starts right up after 2-3 key turns though.could there be something wrong with the new blue injector maybe too much fuel during ignition if i disconnect the injector the car idles rough, but this sympton goes away. if removed the injector and checked the o-rings and everything looks kosher.any ideas

New owner questions. Couple of problems with my new to me 2002 Q45 F50

I am the proud owner of 2002 Q45 and to say I am 100% happy with my choice would be a understatement. That said I have run into a few problems and I am wondering if these are "common known issues" with hopefully simple straightforward solutions.1) Water in the spare tire well. We were deluged with a nor'easter rainstorm over the weekend and for whatever reason I had decided to check to see what kind of spare came with the car (full size spare) I found water in the spare tire well! I am the proud owner of 2002 Q45 and to say I am 100% happy with my choice would be a understatement. That said I have run into a few problems and I am wondering if these are "common known issues" with hopefully simple straightforward solutions.
1) Water in the spare tire well. We were deluged with a nor'easter rainstorm over the weekend and for whatever reason I had decided to check to see what kind of spare came with the car (full size spare) I found water in the spare tire well!
2006 m35 lightbulb replacement

Hi, I have searched and not found any information regarding replacement of a front light bulb for a 2006 M35 Infiniti. The Xenon lightbulb burned out and I would like to replace it. Is it difficult because the lights turn with the steering wheel. Is there a manual page that shows how to do it The dealer wants to charge me $350 for parts and install . It sounds like a lot.Thank you.

Q45 Odd Shift Lock / Shifter noise

I searched . . . My 1997 Q45 w/44K miles, but is making a scratchy, buzz-like, static noise coming from the shifter. It comes and goes, but is there most of the time. Any thoughts I now think the "static" noise is coming from the area around the shifter console -- when I press down on the plastic simulated wood around the shifter, the noise goes away. Is this piece of interior finish held down with some kind of glue Does anyone have an idea of how this area is assembled

Where is the best place to tap a GPS power source Hardwire

Hi All,First post, wow what a resource! I have searched as best as I could and couldn't find an answer. Here's the deal....I just picked up an 02 Infiniti I35. I want to add an aftermarket GPS with a promount clip to the right side of the dash. I have a setup similar to that in my Murano, there is a power outlet (in the Murano) just to the left of the glovebox that works great. No such outlet in the "new, I35.I would like to hardwire the GPS to a "non constant" power source. One that just comes on with the ignition. Before I start unscrewing the dash, does anyone know of any nearby wires that I could safely tap into, to speed my project alongThanks in advance!

2004 FX35 power steering effort

The steering wheel on my 2004 FX35 (55K miles) seems more difficult to turn than any other car with power steering that I drive. It doesn't feel like anything is binding, just weak power assist. I had the rack replaced (leaking) under warranty about 9 months ago, but I'm out of warranty now. I was hoping that the power steering pump would have some sort of a pressure adjustment, but after reading through the FSM it doesn't appear that there is anything like that. It mentions doing a pressure relief test, but if it fails the suggested next step is pump disassembly and repair. Is there a kit available for this Do you think that it will reduce my steering effort Thanks.

TPS Voltage Issue

Hi All, First I want to say that Im happy I found this site and Im looking forward to learning as much as possible. Ive search this topic but without any good results.I have a 92 Q45 throttle body that is installed on my 91 Toyota Supra. When reading the Voltage with the throttle completely closed, Its sitting at .44v, Now when I start the car and rev the motor or hold the throttle at roughtly .60v - .70v (Which is where Im at when normal cruising mode) the voltage will suddenly drop to .15 then back up and then down again. Once this happens, my Wideband A/F meter goes crazy rich and the car stumbles or seems very slugglish. I know its not a Infiniti but Its a Q45 Throttle body. Can anyone help me with this. Does it sound like I need another TPS and if so, where can I source one. Is there a Fix for thisThank you allRobert

PLEASE PLEASE HELP DIAGNOSE MY PROBLEM q45

1997 q45While pulling up to my driveway i heard a high pitch squeaky noise coming from engine. I inspected all hoses and found that the power steering pump belt were in bad shape. I Then decided to replace the Pump and belt. Anyway after installing the pump i turned the car on but the noise was the there. I then decided to look at the other pulley and tensions. I came across the water pump belt. I slightly tighten Pulley and tension. Then turned the car back on and wall-la Squeaky noise is GONE, but now another problem, i notice the fan belt not moving, alternator not spinning, water pump belt not moving, in fact on my panel there is a battery signal. PLEASE PLEASE ANY SUGGESTION ASAP.

Hi, I just ordered a Power Amplifier Assembly for my RF door from infinitypartsusa.com. Can someone verifify that the correct p/n is 25424-68U00 I did some research and it seems that this might be the part number for the right rear door and not the right front (although they may be the same). Just want to make sure before I tear the door apart and find that it's not the correct one. Thx for the help.

Q45 plenum install question

Finally putting the Q back together after injector replacement. Getting this hose off at first was a pain in the a**, I ended up just cutting it and buying a new hose, as was recommended here. Now, I am putting it back together and along with juggling which hoses to put on first while I set the plenum in place, I have no idea how to get this one seated properly. I got the hose attached to the bottom connector behind the engine, but can't get a proper grip on the hose to slide the plenum in.This is probably just one of those things I gotta work at until I get it, but knowing that many people have done this before I'd like any tips people have for this whole re-assembly, especially this hose. Thanks!

RPM/Throttle Problems!!

Hey everybody!! I recently purchased a 2006 g35 6mt 2 months ago. It currently has 27,000 miles. The problem I'm having with my car is the rpm. Whenever I have the car in gear and accel, the rpm jumps and the speed tends to remain the same. I could be driving on the highway in 6th gear at 65mph and decide I want to increase my speed to 70, the rpm spikes up and the speed remains the same or increase by 1-3mph. Didn't know if it was a problem with the throttle, clutch, or the clutch release bearing/fork. I've tried searching for similar posts but couldn't find any that matched the problem I am facing. Every advice/diagnosis will be greatly appreciated. Also, if anybody knows of any mechanical shops in the northern California area please post! Thanks for reading!

Third owner of a 2000 QX4. Really love the vehicle by the way! Didn't come with any remotes. Just for laughs I requested a quote from a dealership. Found a direct replacement online for $53 and it comes with programming instructions. There are two versions available, supposed to get FCC ID# off the back of the existing fobs but I don't have those. So how do I determine which version of the replacement fob to order (and yes I did search both recent and archival posts...)

Problem with Throttle Cable going through Firewall

My problem is with my 1998 Infiniti QX4, which honestly is more like a pathfinder mechanically. I had a problems months ago with the idle revving to high and surging up and down. It turned out to be a problem with the throttle cable coming through the firewall. A buddy of mine actually wrapped the cable with duct tape and fixed it. Well, now it's been a couple of months and the problem is back. Turns out the duct tape has turned loose. Rather than just put another band aid on it again I'd like to understand what the cause is and how to properly fix it.Help please.

2001 QX4 Shift hesitation 1-2 and flare 3-4 on light accelaration

My 01 QX4 has developed a hesitation when shifting from 1-2 and a shift flare from 3-4 only on light accelaration. If accelerated normally or quickly the hesitation or flare do not occur. The porblems only occur on very light acceleration and at 1600 rpm. It also does not occur when the engine/trans. are cool. When the car is first driven after sitting in the garage overnight and the temp. guage is down the trans shifts normally. Within about a mile and when the temp guage rises the shift problems occurs. The vehicle has 95,000 miles. Used as a daily driver. Mostly highway but some city miles. Never been used for towing. It has been serviced regularly including trans fluid change at about 75,000. Neither engine or trans show any codes. Throttle body, Throttle position sensor, O2 sensors, fuel filter have been replaced. Trans fluid shows full, is the right color and does not have a burned odor. I took it to the Infinity dealer today and they could not find a code either. They suggest that it could be a faulty trans solinoid assembly and/or a transmission control module based on a TS bulletin on 2-3 shift flare, but do not have a suggestion of what it might be causing the hesitation when shifting from 1-2. The dealer also said that changing the solinoid and/or control module may not fix the problem and a new trans would be needed. Before I proceed to spend many hundreds on the solinoid and/or control module just to find that the trans needs to be replaced I thought I would post to see if anyone else has had this problem in hopes that they would respond with a less expensive repair suggestion. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My 2004 Infiniti M45 has been giving me code 0462 for the past two weeks. I have not seen any drivability changes. I was assuming that it was a result of the faulty fuel gauge instrument issue the first gen M45 have, but I received this error even with a most full tank (15 gallons).Im taking the car to an independent Infiniti/Nissan mechanic. Hes charging 90 bucks for diagnostic, while the dealer wants 140.If anyone has had this problem please give me an idea of the cause and or cost to repair. She's out of warranty.Femi

I was thinking about going with valvoline maxlife ATF fluid for the tranny and transfer case and pennzoil full synthetic for the engine. Also was thinking about peak extended life antifreeze for coolant. Not sure about the differential oil yet. Anyone have any recommendations Dont really have a ton of money to spend on fluids but dont want to get cheap stuff either. this is for a 2002 qx4 with 116k miles. Thanks

Ive done some research and it appears when the qx4 is doing this it needs new springs. My question is where can i find these springs Ive looked at several sites and nobody carries springs. Also, should i replace shocks and other suspension components when i replace the springs The vehicle rides decent until you hit some bumps and then it just feels like it cant handle them, it makes the whole car move. Im guess this is all suspension/spring related. if im wrong someone please point me in the right direction to get this problem fixed. vehicle has 116k miles.

My 97 QX4 just failed the Nevada smog check the other day. The check engine light came on and is giving the p1447 code. I know it's the evap control system but I've been thinking of just resetting the ecu. If that happens and even after the driving patterns have been done will the check engine light come right back on if the problem isn't fixed. I'm low on dough so I'm trying to find the cheapest way to get through the inspection.

WIRING GODS, quick foglight troubleshoot, with pics

So in my 01 Qx4. Ive got a problem that is KILLING me, as I recently moved into the mountains, foglights are a MUST at night time, so this is a safety issue for me aswell. When I switch my foglights on (dial on the left side stock coming off the steering column). My drivers side fog turns on fine, but my passenger side illuminates the amber orange bulb, not the H3 bulb.Looks like thisSo I figured the H3 bulb might just not be getting power, so I took the fogs out and probed both solid red wires going to the H3 bulbs on both driver and passenger side, drivers side has 10.99Volts, passenger had 10.65Volts. So both bulbs are getting power.....You can see in the pics where I cut the wire back to testI noticed that both harness connectors were the same, so I swapped the drivers side housing over to the passenger side and vice versa, and still the passenger side foglight didnt turn on and the amber bulb lit up. So that tells me that it has nothing to do with the foglight housing or the wiring on either, but the 3 wires going into the passenger side connector are sending bad signalsI should also mention that the blinker turn signal on the passenger side works just fine....Is there a simple fix for this The only thing I could think of, was to cut the green/red wire (assuming its the amber power wire) before enters the harness connector on the passenger foglight and tap it into the orange/grey (assuming its the foglight power wire)But then I assume I wouldnt have a passenger side turn blinker EVERId love to know whats going on here, I suspect it may be faulty wiring in the stock, but its ridiculously expensive and Im simply looking for a cheap fix that will be safe. appreciate any helpModified by longhornsqx4 at 2:11 PM 9/15/2009

When I switch my foglights on (dial on the left side stock coming off the steering column). My drivers side fog turns on fine, but my passenger side illuminates the amber orange bulb, not the H3 bulb.
Looks like this

So I figured the H3 bulb might just not be getting power, so I took the fogs out and probed both solid red wires going to the H3 bulbs on both driver and passenger side, drivers side has 10.99Volts, passenger had 10.65Volts. So both bulbs are getting power.....
You can see in the pics where I cut the wire back to test

I noticed that both harness connectors were the same, so I swapped the drivers side housing over to the passenger side and vice versa, and still the passenger side foglight didnt turn on and the amber bulb lit up.
So that tells me that it has nothing to do with the foglight housing or the wiring on either, but the 3 wires going into the passenger side connector are sending bad signals??
I should also mention that the blinker turn signal on the passenger side works just fine....
Is there a simple fix for this??? The only thing I could think of, was to cut the green/red wire (assuming its the amber power wire) before enters the harness connector on the passenger foglight and tap it into the orange/grey (assuming its the foglight power wire)
But then I assume I wouldnt have a passenger side turn blinker EVER
Id love to know whats going on here, I suspect it may be faulty wiring in the stock, but its ridiculously expensive and Im simply looking for a cheap fix that will be safe. appreciate any help

Modified by longhornsqx4 at 2:11 PM 9/15/2009

Possible problem with dash temp gauge

I decided to hook up my laptop to my car since it was in there and while the engine was running, I noticed that the dash temp gauge was reading just under the half mark but on the computer, it shows that the engine was running at 217 degrees with an outside temp of 84 degrees.

04' G35 AT, P507---online mechanics, need advice

I've changed the spark plugs, cleaned the TB(I know... but it's too late now). P507 code keeps popping up. I've gone thru the ECU reset, throttle valve closed position and idle air volumn learning procedures...., the car drives better, but only last several miles and the code came back. The symptom is when I let go the gas while I am crusing, the RPM drops 300-400 and immediately raised up. Also, when I am braking, the car always want to give me an extra push. I bought a brand new TB from the dealer few days ago, but didn't solve the problem. Questions I have is, besides ECU reset, throttle valve closed position and idle air volume learning. what other procedures I have to do Is there any calibrations I am not aware of

2003 FX45 - dies while driving as if ignition was suddenly disabled

I am staying with my brother in law - I was picked up at the airport in his FX45. One mile from home his it died. Simply going up a hil at a steady pace, and the engine stopped, and dash lights came on. Adter multiple attempts to restart with and without the remote, it never restarted. It was just towed in.Earlier today the FX was picked up from the local dealer for the second time for exactly this same problem - towed in both times dead. At first it was blamed on the battery (which they replaced) and then on the gas. When they picked it earlier today - it died a third time. However, after it restarted before the tow truck got there, and was driven back to infiniti. They then said it was that the key sent a "negative signal" that turned off the engine. So now it has died four times for the same reason, and been towed back three times.Any idea what is up, or how to deal with this The FX has only 44K and is otherwise in immaculate shape.thanks for any help.

Buzzing, creaking, and...Texas chain guides

Having a few different interesting problems with a '92 Q45.First, a problem I'm noticed when backing out of the driveway...just the driveway. In reverse when the front wheels hit the lip of the concrete (it dips an inch or so and then it's all pavement from there) there's a low buzzing noise, a little tension on the brake pedal, and light vibration on the floor boards. The car still works properly before during and after this happens; nonetheless, it's kind of frightening. I assume it only happens when backing out of the driveway due to the concrete lip.Another thing, probably minor and more of an annoyance: When driving at low speeds (about up to 35 I believe) I get a funny noise particularly on the front passengers size (lightly and only occasionally on the drivers size). Hard to explain the sound exactly, like a rolling/creaking noise in just general driving or when the wheels go over minuscule bumps or dips. You can feel it lightly on the floor boards too, like something lightly touching/rolling for a second. No similar issues on rough roads at faster speeds. This may just be a suspension issue of some type, but I figured I would ask since I'm sure someone else has run in to this issue before.Lastly, any recommendations for chain guide replacements in Texas Need a trusty mechanic, central Texas would be most ideal, I live just outside Austin. And of course, I did my best to search these issues before asking. A little hard to locate answers if you're as baffled as I am though.

Does the EGR valve need to be disconnected to remove the plenum I'm not able to tell exactly by looking at it, but it looks like a pain to remove so I'd like to skip it if possible. Can I just disconnect the pipe coming from the rear of the engine bay, like in the pic below

96 I30 idles great, will not drive

have a 96 I30. thats driving me crazy! It will idle perfectly, but when i rev the engine, it starts knocking, pinging, and will not go above 2000 rpm at best. It will not drive, totally unable to pull. the following are facts that led up to this problem....1. the check engine light would come on periodically, and has had a little hesitation/ missing at certain throttle positions2. started noticing a very small hissing sound3. auto zone said the CEL indicated the knock sensor and the EGR valve4. days later noticed the hissing sound was very loud, filled up at gas station5. the following day, noticed loss of power when going over mountain6. 30 miles later, was only able to go 50 mph when going over mountain7. 10 miles later, lost complete power, would idle but wouldnt pull8. discovered hose from ERG valve to vacuum modulator was busted, replaced but did not help9. replaced spark plugs. air filter and fuel filter, no luck10. replaced MAFM, no luck11. idled half the gas out of tank, replaced with fresh gas, no luck the exhaust has a smell of gas indicating its running rich. Any suggestions Could a faulty or plugged ERG valve cause this problem

1990 Q with 1995 Q engine has issue with tach and also stumbles at accel.

I have a problem with a Q that my Mom owns that use to be my nephews. What happens to start with is when you first start the car, the needle on the tach will jump to 5,000 and bounce as it comes back down to 800 rpm. This all happens as the engine starts and the engine seems to bounce along with the tach although it isn't turning 5,000 rpm when it first starts. It will also start to hunt as the needle on the tach bounces while accelerating from a stop until you get to your cruise speed. If you put it to the floor, it will surge until it passes 2700 rpm then it smooths out. I replaced the instrument cluster with another known working unit, but it still does the same thing with the replacement tach. It doesn't always do this. It only seems to do it about 70% of the time. The other 30%, it starts up and drives just fine. This all started to happen about 6 months after I did the engine swap. Does the Tach get it's signal from the CAS

My Q45 was running great when I parked it 4 weeks ago. Now it cranks but won't start. After spraying starting fluid in the air box the car starts for 5 seconds then dies so I assume it is the fuel system. All of the fuses are good. I need to know where the port is to hook up my fuel pressure guage and what are logical steps to diagnose the system. Thanks.

Speed Sensor trouble

I have a 96 Infiniti J30 and check engine came on a few weeks ago and as if it was a curse i need to go pass emissions and the OBD2 says its the speed sensor but I have changed it and still no luck it came on about 30 min after I replaced it . Now questions I had and needed help on, does this car have just one sensor on the transmission or is there an input and output sensor located where i can work on it . Thank you in advance for your help.

Replacing Vehicle speed sensor on 91 Q45

This should be a no brainer, but I am trying to replace the speed sensor which plugs into the transmission housing near the back. Removing the actual sensor is no problem, but the wiring from it goes up into the propshaft tunnel somewhere and I cannot feel the connector on the end of it. Access is difficult as I can only get the car up high enough to crawl underneath and grope around. Does the connector finish up inside the car itself, if so how can I get at it
