End of the world scenario, best caliber pistol to have

This isn't about rifles, if someone wants to start that thread go ahead, it's just as good a question. Before you click on whatever caliber you love, I love .45 myself, think about it. Governments are failing, paper money is worthless, people are killing each other in the streets over a box of twinkies. You can't swing by the gun store and pick up more ammo, ever again. The s*** has hit the fan, it's road warrior time, only the alphas are going to survive. You have enough time to grab ONE pistol and the ammo to go with it, which caliber do you wantDisregard the cliche big slow bullet -vs- fast small bullet dogma. Any of these calibers can get it done with a quality bullet and a capable marksman. Cost per round is not an issue, we are planning for armageddon here, price is no object. The scenario is specific and the crucial questions to ask yourself are:What weight penalty does this ammo bring Could I get by with something smaller to allow me to carry more in the pistol and on my person and still remain foot-mobileHow likely is it that I might stumble across a box of this caliber in my foraging through the remnants of civilization That .50 action express can take out zombies, sure, but when you run out, now what What caliber ammo will other people have they would trade to me for something or vice-versa. Do I want to rethink my first choice in favor of something more liquidWhat are the chances if my weapon takes a s***, I can find or trade for another weapon that eats the caliber I have chosen Do I want to think about the replacements weapons I may be able to get when choosing the caliberIf you would be willing to carry two, one to use, one for trade or in case you get your hands on a second gun, explain in you post what they would be and why.

Bought a new deer rifle!

Actually, its my first gun purchase ever. Ive owned a little semi-auto 22 rifle for ever, but it lives at my grandmother's cabin in South Dakota so I never really get to shoot it. I would bring it back to Alabama but then I wouldn't have anything to put 700 rounds through when I go to visit my grandparents.Anyway, I got myself a new hunting rifle yesterday at the gun show. Spent three hours not knowing what the hell I wanted and finally decided on a Remington 721 in 30.06. Paid more for it than everyone else apparently, but mine is in perfect condition. I liked the smooth lines and the simplicity of the piece, and the caliber was definitely a plus. It was nice checking out reviews and looking at pictures of other peoples 721s, and realizing that mine is in waaay better condition than every other one I have seen. The trigger pull is drop-dead sexy. Its set to about 2.5lbs and hardly even moves when you pull it. You just have to flex your hand and it fires. It is supposed to have one of the strongest bolts in gun history, and I believe it. Its so solid and confidence inspiring. It is also supposed to, and I quote, "kick very hard for a 30.06" which means it will probably destroy my shoulder. I am looking forward to it.Anyway, I just wanted to share. I will get pictures up tomorrow, as my camera sucks and the lighting in my apartment is awful right now. I have yet to shoot it, but I have been invited to go hunting next weekend, prior to purchasing the gun, so it will be nice showing up with my own weapon. No scope on it because I am poor and could not afford one at the same time as the gun, but I will be getting one soon. I also need to buy a case and some other stuff for it. Anyone else have any experience with these guns I hear some people don't like the fact that they can't unload it with the rifle cocked, and that the safety can be a little weak, but all this will be avoided by not shooting it until I am ready to shoot it.

Meet my little arsenal.

Well, I spent quite a bit of coin on a couple of scary guns. The LWRC M6A2 in 6.8 SPC. And a Sig 556 pistol I had a chance to take them to the range to shoot them. Lots of trouble with both. The LWRC was doublefeeding and more often failing to feed at all. I would have to hand cycle almost every round. I blame the 90 grain ammo I was using. The bolt wasn't getting enough gas to cycle fully. Other than that the rifle kicked nice and shot well. People stopped shooting and peeked around the divider to see what all the booms were from my new toy. Well, actually, BOOM!, f***! click click, BOOM! The Sig was also doublefeeding. I was using the 55 grain ball 5.56 ammo so I was a bit surprised. Much like the LWRC I wasn't really pissed as they were both brand new and I expected trouble as they wore in. The Sig has a feature, though, that the LWRC doesn't, an adjustable gas valve. I cranked it to the "adverse setting" which ports more gas to the piston and it started shooting a bit better. The cases were showing something weird though. The extractor on the Sig is no bulls***! It was ripping up the case rims and throwing them really hard. The D-shape of the case mouths suggests it was flipping them backwards really hard and bending the mouths of the cases against the receiver. The brass scarring on the receiver seems to back up this idea. When I got home and cleaned the gun I found the piston was corroded. I didn't want to do it but I figured if I didn't clean up the piston I would need one anyway so I had nothing to lose. I took a scotchbrite pad to it and got it in a much better state. The second trip to the range seems to suggest I did the right thing. I had only a few doublefeeds and I didn't have to open the valve up again.VIDEO http://s119.photobucket.com/al...1.flvThe Sig mag is as its looks suggest, s***. The Magpul P-MAGS performed well. The Lancer mags functioned for the most part except when I slammed them home on an open chamber, the top round would pop out. I don't recommend these mags to the AR guys. They look cool as hell and if you can work around the glitch described, they feed fine, but a mag IMO should work flawlessly so the tip of the hat to the P-MAGS.My wife's birthday is coming up and I am the romantic type so I got her a gift. Handguns are a girls best friend, right She has never shot a real gun so I was looking for something chambered in .22 to avoid scaring the hell out of her with recoil. If she isn't freaked out by the gun's kick she can concentrate on fundamentals of handling and shooting it. Most .22 pistols are inexplicably goofy-looking though. I'm not sure why this is but I don't like it. My wife had said she liked the look of the Walther P99 so I checked their lineup and found a gun that chambered .22 and looked great. Additionally if she really enjoyed shooting and wanted to step up to a 9mm or something the P99 has similar ergos so she would be confident with the gun's controls. I went to a gun show and found this sweet little Walther P22. I almost bought the pink one but my wife would hate that silly s*** so I got the black one instead. I sighted it in and I burned through 100 rounds quick. The lil fella kicks with the magnums and I have heard it really wants magnums to cycle reliably. It did so for me and I had a lot of fun shooting it. Not one malfunction and my fellow shooters could likely hear my laughter as I shot the gun; seriously fun as hell. This made me happy. Just in case my wife didn't like shooting, I would be proud to call this little pistol mine! Unfortunately, she loved the gun, so if I want one I will have to buy my own, in pink of course. I gave her a brief on the controls, proper handling and safety of a weapon, how to obtain sight picture and trigger control with some snap caps before loading it with live rounds. The grip fits her little hand perfectly and the recoil sping is easy to overcome to rack the slide. The recoil, even being a blowback gun is more fun than formidable. The safety is goofy, though, and she had trouble thumbing it up and off just like I had and I had to bark "finger off the trigger dear," a few times but other than that I was very impressed. With a target set up at 3 yards, having never shot anything but my softair 1911, she put 99 of 100 in the black and the flier was only because she tried that shot with her other eye to check her eye dominance. She grips it righty but sights with her left eye. She was rewarded for her efforts with a ragged hole in the center of the target so I see no reason to change what apparently works very well for her. I better not piss her off. She really enjoyed shooting the little gun so I finally told her it was really hers and not "borrowed from a friend" like I had told her. I had to come back to Japan though so after a final cleaning I packed all the guns in rust preventative bags and put them away. I will miss be able to shoot them in the coming years as I work to move my job and us back to the states.

Ways to improve my shooting range.

Can you tell I'm bored at work...Well here's my parents back yard.Light blue is the pool with the deck next to it,Dark blue is the pond,Dark green lines are the bank, everything slopes away from the pool down towards the bank, which makes for a nice back stop.Dark green blobs are pine trees,Brown blobs are big cotton woods,Red circles are where I currently stand and red squares are where I shoot.Green is where I was thinking of adding things.I can't shoot below the black lineI can't shoot Any amount of direction N or W.I want to add more stuff, so I thought about this. (pistol)-Stand at 1 and shoot to A and B (2 shot standard target or metal swinger),-Move to 2 and shoot plates at C with shots progressively getting farther away,-Finish at 3 shooting at D (standard target). What's bad is I'm using a Ruger .22 and only have 10rnd mags, so I'd have to reload in the middle of my 5 plates.Any better idea's

good objective tests of ammo

I'll have seven types of 6.8 SPC ammo to pump through my new rifle in about a month. I intend to have fun but the reason for the many types is to find one or two that work well so I know what to stock up on in the future as I will be back in Japan and unable to test the ammo at that point.I am thinking some five round groups at different distances and barrier testing with cinder blocks and lumber if I can find a location to do it. I'm pretty sure the range wouldn't be keen on me lugging some 2x10s and blocks down range. Any thoughts on a good series of tests to narrow down my choice of ammoI see having one round for interior bump in the night work, ie limited penetration through walls, and one you call that cover barrier punching round.

I need a weedeater! (weed trimmer, for you yankee doodles)

So my yard is becoming overgrown with weeds in the normal places I can't take my lawnmower. Around the mailbox, agianst the house, down the fenceline, and the ditch at the road.I need to so these things who's boss, but I'm not sure of the brand to choose before I go into battle.I would like something that will accept attachments, such as an edger and maybe a little blower just to remove the grass clippings from my driveway.I don't want to cheap out, because I understand that with outdoor appliances, you generally get what you pay for. My budget is around $200-$275 max. It will probably only be used once a week for 30 minutes, but I want it to last for years.I'm thinking Husqvarna, but I assume the Lowes ones are big box crap. Maybe Stihl, Redmax or Echo. I also want it to be a 2-cycle as 4 strokes are too heavy.Anybody have a weedeater that has lasted a few seasons Good or bad experiences

I'm looking for a rifle.I was looking at a Marlin 336w in 30-30 for $289 new. This seems like a decent price as buds lists it for $350.But a relative has a Enfield 303 British. He wants $90 for it. I haven't seen the condition, but it's shootable, and shoots straight. What do you guys think

Weee!!! Holy hell does full auto rock with an AK!!

I got to shoot my first full auto AK based weapon this past weekend.I went on a drive to an FFL who is a class 3 dealer who is going to build my semi-auto inch DSA FAL. Went there Saturday with my buddy and son.He let us shoot his full auto post sample AK74 and holy hell that thing rocks. He also had a full auto M16 with a suppressor but he was having timing issues so we couldn't shoot it all that much. But wow, a 5.45x39 at full auto is amazingly controllable. WAAYY more controllable and fun than the full auto Uzi I shot a couple of years ago. Here is a link to the video. Pat (the dealer) was an awesome guy and his shop was amazing. He has a really cool Australian accent too. Here is his website: http://www.saflithgow.com/cart/Link to the video of me and my kid and buddy shooting the full auto stuff:http://www.youtube.com/watchv=HcLwuEDTjCwYeah, I'm the fat guy.

Alright. Thanks to the success of the now completely off-topic pistol thread, I require NICO's thoughts on multitools. Here is what I'm looking for:1) Must fit into a 2x1x6.5" pocket2) Must have a clip to clip onto said pocket3) Said pocket is located toward the inner thigh, above the knee. Anything really heavy in there is annoying because it tends to bang around a lot.4) Would be extremely useful, if, say, I was on a plane and it happened to crash.Go!

I got me a nice 1911!

I have always like John Browning's creation. Much like a car that you have always liked, everything about it is just "right." The grip angle and width, the weight, the natural point of aim, definitely the cartridge, it feels like it was made just for me. I will eventually get a 4" Kimber or ParaOrdinance but for now I couldn't pass up this simple, black government model. The packaging is real nice. I guess this is supposed to be a Marine Corps spec model. When I was in they were carrying those Beretta M9s, yuck. The skeletonized hammer and drilled trigger are good looking and the pull is natural and smooth. I'm a righty but I still appreciate an ambidextrous thumb safety in case I want or need to shoot weak hand. **************Did I mention, it's a soft air gun Sorry bout that. I live in Japan, remember I can't own a real gun here. I can, however, get a realistic operating replica to practice manual of arms and shooting with and teach my wife proper, safe gun handling. When I return to the states, I will have a real 1911 and she will get a gun as well and I think it's important to get back in the habit now and familiarize her too. I don't see her shooting a .45, more likely a 9mm but the mindset is the same. This is a TokyoMarui gas blowback model. It uses freon to fire the bb and cycle the slide. The realistic operation and faithful, to scale location and functions of the controls were the point. When I put a real gun in her hand, she only needs to get used to the recoil of a real round, the controls will be familiar. It's a fun toy too!Watch it work. http://s119.photobucket.com/al...1.flv

I may very well be very soon. The dealer has my LWRCi M6A2 in and as soon as I get the payment to him it will be on it's way to an FFL in my area. The deal isn't done yet and I hate assume but I can't help but be excited. It's exactly what I wanted! Here is what it will look like. This is like buying a Harley. The rifle is just the beginning, it's the accessories that stack up the cost and bring waves of fresh joy like multiple orgasms. I do enjoy my toys.

My .22 rifle

I was only 12 or 13 when my grandpa passed and before he got sick (cancer) he told me that when he died I could have his guns. He had a .22 (not sure of brand), a Chinese SKS (again, not sure of brand). My grandma is scared to death of guns and says that I'm not old enough to have the SKS yet even after explaining to her that I can legally go buy a rifle at 18. Just thought I'd share some pics of it. It's got a few what looks to be paint scuffs on it, anyone know what will bring it off without damaging the finish On to the pics...sorry for the quality, taken with a cell phone.Engravings:Again:Pic of paint scuff:Again:I wouldn't take anything in the world for this gun and would like to keep it top notch. If anyone has any clue what will bring those marks off I would appreciate it. Will try to snap some pics of the SKS next time I'm at my grandmas.

On to the pics...sorry for the quality, taken with a cell phone.

Engravings:

Again:

Pic of paint scuff:

Again:

I wouldn't take anything in the world for this gun and would like to keep it top notch. If anyone has any clue what will bring those marks off I would appreciate it. Will try to snap some pics of the SKS next time I'm at my grandmas.

Well my father put up some things on craigslist to barter with. Someone had two rifles for trade for my dads dinky old aluminum fishing boat. One of which my dad didnt even know what it was. He just said it was some old WW2 rifle and looked like lee harvey oswalds gun lol. I said id prolly know what it was so he sent me some pics and it was mosin nagant (m44) carbine. He said he would let me have it since i was so excited about it, and he really had no use for anything more than a .22.Date stamped on it is 1952 so its not a war era nagant, but cool nonetheless. Has a folding bayonet which is a nice touch. Seems this one was made in poland by doing a little research. Only things i need for it are the cleaning rod (missing) and sling. Need to find a place to shoot it

Firearm Training - Yay Nay Reviews

Hey all, I'm working on getting my LTC and have been checking out different options. Naturally a safety course is a definite but I've been seeing a lot of ads for firearm training courses. Most of these courses "guarantee" assistance in the LTC application process and include safety/defense training. sounds pretty good right Has anybody here taken any of these courses Is it worth the extra cash

Mt.Bikers, where are you

Hey guys, I've been thinking about getting back into MTB, although my carpal tunnel will likely not let me ride like I used to. I figure I am done with the racing...at least on a highly competitive level. I've ridden hard tails all my life, but since I'm not wanting to race hardcore, I'd like to try a full suspension and have been eyeballing the Trek fuel 5.5.Any experience with the newer Fuel framesHaha, here is quote from a thread I made back in May of '06Quote, originally posted by Looneybomber It's riding season again and the trails are muddy. Anyone out there riding and have some pics of your trails or bikeIn this pic, you can see Logans Run. I used to lift weights with the head designer of that trail. I want to say her name is Sarah Logan. That section is awesome. It's technical and is entirely on the side of the bluffs running into the lake. If you crash, try to crash uphill.Ha, I found a little info on the trails right by my parents house. All in all there are 28miles of riding trails out there, not the 15miles they talk about.http://www.mtbr.com/trails/Kan....htmlAnd some pictures!http://sunflower.com/~cmartell...k2002/Typical sight as you're riding along. Once I get out there with a digi cam, I will have to take some pictures of some of the drop-offs going into the lake on some of the downhill sections. They're funI'm suck on the sideline for a bit till I get my rear shifter working/replaced. I'd really like to just replace my bike with this, but spending over 1400 for a bike seems silly since I'm not racing anymore.Modified by Looneybomber at 6:55 PM 5/1/2006

Looking for a new bolt action deer rifle...

Okay, I'm looking at a new budget bolt action deer rifle (in .270 unless you can convince me otherwise), as so I can afford to have a solid package after spending some money on a quality scope.I have it narrowed down to a few, and would like for any of you guys to share any experiences.Marlin has introduced another effort in the bolt-action category, the XL7, and after reading reviews it seems to be a capable rifle shooting 1 MOA at 100yds. It also has the Pro-fire adjustable trigger (the same as Savages accutrigger).Theres also the Savage 110 with accutrigger, a proven reliable cheap gun.I was looking at the Remington 770 series, but after reading reviews it seems like Rems bottom of the barrel economy bolt action sucks hard compared to the other two. Both of these guns can be had for $350 out the door.I will be mainly hunting deer in the southeast, and maybe a coyote or bobcat along the way.Which would you buy, or would you step up the budget In todays market I think a cheap rifle with a good scope would be as good as some of the heavy hitters such as Browning, TC, Weatherby and Remington.Feel free to add anything I've overlooked in the poll. Thanks!

I spent my last off day scouting for a turkey hunting spot (1st year), I went to an area where I had seen turkey before and on my way in I stopped at a little partially dried mud hole to look for random tracks. At first glance I spotted a few deer tracks, coyote tracks then I came across the pictured track, not the best of pics (cell) or best imprint by the animal all though there were others this one was the most complete. The pic also does not show the claws that were also imprinted into the mud. Please share your thoughts on this. I'm also located in northern Alabama if that helps. Thanks

I require a new sub-compact pistol.

A while back, I purchased a Kel Tec PF-9. I like it, for the most part. It is, however, built to a price point and it shows.Frankly, I'd like to replace or supplement it with a better looking sub-compact. Or, I'm trying to justify purchasing a new CCW.I've got a chubby for the CZ RAMI: Similar guns are the Kahr family, the subcompact XD, the smaller Glocks, and maybe a really small 1911.What else we got

My Aluminum boat build.

This is my long story of how last summer a friend and I decided that we wanted to get a boat. So we went halfsies on an aluminum boat. We already had a trailer all we needed was a motor. We got the boat from a local marina for $400. It had a lot of water in it from previous torrential rains that summer. Needless to say, the wood floors were pretty soft. We took out what was in the boat before and re-constructed it our own way. Here are some pictures of it, unfortunately no pictures of it before we tore it apart (trust me it was nast). After stripping it down and a nice power wash All new wiring and new 1x2 treated splinesNew floors, not yet treatedFriend building steering consoleConsole mock-up New upholstery Carpeting finished Console panel wired upAll done with consoleBattery box / storage areaFirst time on the waterMy dog Henry enjoying the boatEverything was finished. It was now time to take it out on the water. At first everything was fine, but after a couple (literally a 2 times) times out on the water we found ourselves paddling back to the pier with a dead motor. This was 2 weeks after we got the motor. We took it back to the marina and they replaced the coils, choke solenoid and did a little wiring. The total came to $700, we weren't too happy because we had bought the motor 2 weeks before. So we did a little complaining/explaining and they knocked $150 off our bill. Before we took it in we also had some over heating problems and told them to check the impeller and the cooling system out. Apparently their top rigging technician took it out for a "2 hour" water test. We got the motor back and took it out on the water and wouldn't you know it died again, so we had to be towed back to shore. By this time we were pretty furious. We just got it back from the shop and not even an hour on the water and it is over heating. Took the boat back to my house and called them. Asked them if they checked the impeller and the cooling system, "out top rigging tech took it out for a 2 hour water test". We were thinking, no way he did this. I then took it upon myself to investigate. I took off the lower unit and found that the impeller was fine, but no water was coming from the water outlet I then proceeded to check over the lower unit and found that there were two strainers in the water intake and that one had melted from all the heat. Apparently they didn't check the cooling system after all. Here is a diagram how it looked, kinda. Here is what happened to the piston after constant overheatingWe went back to the marina and worked out details. We now have a 2002 yamaha 50hp two stroke. The gave us a deal on the motor and gave us free rigging of the motor and replaced the impeller. end of story

Walther P22 and other guns...

Went to my first gun show today! Finally got to handle all those guns I've been reading about in my 08' Annual Gun Catalog. Firstly, I am in love with the diminutive little Walther and want to know your thoughts. Having no experience firing a .22 round at any living subject...are they effective at all as a defensive handgun All I know is it fit my hand like a glove, is quite handsome, and doesn't break the bank. Although I would prefer a more powerful caliber...it is the only pistol there that was extremely comfortable...big in my books as I will also be using the gun to shoot at the range. I had gone there with high hopes for the the new PPS, but after holding it they were slashed as it's plastic grips quite honestly suck. IF only I had a little more money I could throw down and get myself a nice Kimber Ultra Carry and be done with it.Secondly, my gf's father bought a Taurus Tracker in .45 colt which although very big, is going to be his carry weapon. At first glance and subsequent inspection I like it very much.Thirdly I am quite pumped to purchase a 10/22 and begin modifying it...those things are just so neat...anyone else into the little Ruger rimfireForthly, I'm glad and sad I had no money as I would have walked out of there very happy and regretful.

I want to start hunting- Need Tips

Hello Everyone!I recently picked up an interest for shooting, particularly rifles. I've always wanted to hunt, but I never really looked in to it. I've done some research online, and I have also gone to local gun shops and asked them. I want to hunt for deer, but I think that might be too much for a first timer. What kind of hunting do you think would be a good way to start I don't necessarily want to hunt for Rabbit or Quail. I've been reading, and the most common and widely used caliber is the .30-06. When I went to the shop, they suggested a caliber .308, they said it has good stopping power with minimal recoil. Oh, and I also want bolt action, as I've read that it is more reliable than other options. Also, I don't want to spend 1,000 for a remington, what are some good alternatives My budget is around that much though. But If I could get a decent rifle for 500-700, I could then get all the goodies/extras like rounds, a carrying case, cleaning products, etc...Shoot me some ideas! Thanks!

   Hello Everyone!
I recently picked up an interest for shooting, particularly rifles. I've always wanted to hunt, but I never really looked in to it. I've done some research online, and I have also gone to local gun shops and asked them.
I want to hunt for deer, but I think that might be too much for a first timer. What kind of hunting do you think would be a good way to start?
Walther P99

So, I've decided to buy a P99 .40 S/W. What I can't decide on is which model to get, AS or QA. I personally prefer a single action trigger pull. I searched the net and the only thing I am un clear of is, if you fire a round in the AS, does it stay in single action mode or do you have to put it in sa mode(pull the trigger half way) after every shot The QA is supposed to be basically like a Glock, a light, consistent trigger pull. But, I've never shot a Glock, so again I'm unsure. Does anyone own or have knowledge on this weapon Thanks.

I got the version of this gun with the 18.5" barrel and the 5 round magazine tube. I want to upgrade the capacity to the 7 round tube but because of the barrel design you would have to replace the barrel to do it.apparently there was/is a version of the 500 with a 20" barrel that allowed the longer mag tube to be used and came to flush with it, but i can't find this barrel anywhere. any ideas where i can find itthanks in advance.

Attention Skaters and Boaters - Grip Tape

I already checked around locally, but I wanted to know if anybody had suggestions for grip tape/anti skid tape that was sold in sheets. It will be applied to the footwells and pedals on my car and I wanted to know if anybody had suggestions for certain brands of tape. Ideally, I am looking for relatively affordable tape that is easy to conform to a floorpan, and definitely something that sticks well. Thanks for looking!

I'm not even sure which model would be comparable to the 870 though.Anybody

I was looking at the Sig 556 but the HK 416 looked as good or better upon cursory inspection. I know I want gas piston operation. Then I discover that the HK has a big brother chambering 7.62 and that tipped me all the way over that way. I was not impressed with 5.56 and the thought of the bigger round is very appealing to me. I am still Googilatin but it appears these have not hit the U.S. market yet. http://www.hkpro.com/hkpro416c...t.htmPerhaps they have no intention to do so Quote, originally posted by jonesblog I talked with a current VP of marketing at the show and he insisted that there were no plans to release the HK 416 and HK 417 to the civilian market despite many rumors that H&K would. It's too bad really as they are nice designs that are quality built with typically precise German engineering.Anybody have some scoop

Get me up to speed on sportster "black guns" and VA. laws please

Alright. I have been out of the country for 15 years and I didn't own personal weapons when I was there. I am thinking about buying one of those spooky scary "assult rifles" before the new administration comes to power.Don't try to turn this into a political discussion, we have a forum for that and there is already a thread about it.I am leaning towards an M4. I am not impressed with the 5.56 round and with the M16s tendency to jam anywhere near a a speck of dirt but at least I have a good deal of experience operating and maintaining this action when I was in the Corps so that is something.I just picked up a magazine to see what is out there and I am overwhelmed. This seems to be quite a lucrative industry with guys dolling up the rifle more than a D1 drift car. I don't need all that ****, don't need a grenade launcher, a bayonet, laser sight, compass, can opener and universal remote on my weapon. A basic well-built M4 with iron sights and a collapsable stock is fine. Anybody have oneWho made itDo you like itWhat are these things costingIf you have a paticular weapon you like and think I should take a look at it please let me know. I have pretty much ruled out an AK, too big with too much hate associated with it that I don't need aimed at me.Any Virginia residents here who could square me away on the laws on these rifles Mag capacity, stock type etc, I would be grateful.I have to have a freind get it for me and store it away for when I come back.

Skiing Gear and Advice

Disclosure-NOT STARTING A BOARD VS SKI ARGUMENT- I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT!Since we have the boarding gear, I thought I'd post up a skiing gear topic for similar reasons. Though the equipment is about the same- clothing, goggle, hat, gloves wise- there are definitely specifics that I have *very* limited knowledge about.Background- I've always been able to pick up active sports quickly and skateboarded and/or rollerbladed for a number of years. I've only skiied one weekend, and it was so awesome- even with the generic beginners rental equipment I was on. The first day I was trying to learn on the bunny hill but it ended to quick, so I said "eff it," and got on the lift and taught myself by immersing myself into trails. I enjoyed the thrill and got really into it and on the second day. I was able to make it down intermediate trails (and one iced over intermediate slope) with relative ease. The third day I wanted to switch up for a snowboard, but was having to much fun trying to further master skiing. Assuming I had this more or less figured out, I went down a single diamond the third day- it wasn't the best idea I've had in my life because I was weaving very slowly (and still on the beginners rental stuff), but I still had fun regardless. Anyway, now that you can get a feel for my ability (its not much, I know) I really want to invest in a set of boots and/or skis this year. I don't like asking the ski forums because they really push and pull you in so many different directions, and the ski shop is just trying to make a buck, so I'd really like an honest opinion about what I might want to try out and what you'd recommend. I want to learn from hearing about your experiences with various brands of equipment as well- whats good/desirable/quality in a product, what to avoid, unnecessary features in equipment, helpful features in equipment, how to pick sizes, buy within my skill level, etc. Am I going to be stuck with a set of boots and/or skis when I buy them if I don't like them I honestly have no clue how to go about this, so help out a brother who's originally from Florida! Any questions that you ask, I'll be happy to answer them!

Am I going to be stuck with a set of boots and/or skis when I buy them if I don't like them? I honestly have no clue how to go about this, so help out a brother who's originally from Florida!
Any questions that you ask, I'll be happy to answer them!
