How to get stock speedometer to work in 240sx s13 with 2jzgte swap

Hey guys. I have just got my new swap in my 1990 240sx with a 2jzgte engine. I was told that it is possible to get the stock speedometer to work (mph gauge, rev gauge, temp gauge). Is it possible and how I had already changed the speedometer on my car from a 93-up 240sx that can read the sr20det swap I did before (ka24e to ka24de speedometer). I want to have a clean swap and use the speedometer in my dash rather than buying a huge tach and bolt it on the side. Any help or suggestions would be great.

So i was curious on what some of you guys with a ls1 240sx are doing with smog. From what I have heard you can go to the dmv and tell them you have a different engine and go through some tests or checks and you get a sticker on the side of you door that says you have that engine. Just kinda through out any info. Anything will help.

Budget RB30DET Build, Turbo Question!!

Hey,I have an R32 RB20DET (Nissan motor 16v Ceramic jobie) & a R32 GTR (Garrett A/R42) laying around and want some input as to weather either is a fessable turbo to use an a cheap RB30 build Ive heard of turbo's being rebuilt with larger wheels & porting etc.. And as both would need a rebuild anywho, perhaps rebuilding the GTR/RB20 turbo with new internals would be the best route The engines being built for mad skids so taking the cheep-ish route to start with... See where it goes... Oh & its going into an S14 Cheers for your input

My Turbo 302 SBF Project

I am getting ready to swap in a 302 SBF into my S13. I haven't picked up a engine yet but, i have a few lined up i'm going to look at. I picked the 302 SBF because they are cheap and fairly easy to make fit in the engine bay compared to other v8 swaps. Once its in i plan on putting a HX50 or equal size turbo on there to help get some power out of her. My first question is:How do you covert the cable clutch to a hydro Bell housing swap off another fordI plan on having the engine and tranny by the end of october so i can start mocking stuff up. For now i'm going to stitch weld the bay and clean stuff up a bit.

I'm considering swapping out an LT1 in the vert, but I'm not too sure on what parts I'd need and how easy/hard it is to do it... any help would be appreciated. Thanx to all!

I done a bit of searching not only on these forums but on zilvia.net and 240sxfoums about this subject. I have a 2jzgte with a r154 transmission and an infinity j30 dif out back. i currently have 17x9 front and 18x10 rear haven't gotten tires yet but i think ill be getting 235/40/17 and 285/35/18. I have a lot of other supporting mods but my question is how do I get a smoother/more stable ride with the 2jz pushing 500hp to the rear wheels. i was thinking about replacing the bushing and add some sway bars. but im not sure what works for ka/sr guys will work for the 2jz.and advice will be appreciated.thanks

my 1jzgte s14 build

I use to have an sr20 in the bay but i needed something new in my life. i was gonna do s15 sr20 but the motor was crazy expensive. Then i thought about doing RB25 but my boy Mike at E-Shift says to me "bro why run one little turbo when you can have two on a 1JZ" lol 280hp 315 torque vs 250hp 215 torque..for the same price id rather go with the 1jz. Its perfect for going slidewayz :DALL the work is done by me in my own driveway but E-Shift is gonna be wiring up all my electronic accesories in the car..this car hasnt moved since January 3rd.
Bored...Crazy idea 3S-GE

I'm sitting here searching the internet and I found a Toyota Altezza rs200 front clip with a 3S-GE. I was looking at the engine and if you dont know its a 4 cyl. dual VVT-i n/a engine that produces around 210 hp. I've been planning on swapping an sr into my s14 later this year/early next year. I want to keep a 4 cyl. because next year I'm going to college so Im going to be driving alot and they get better gas mileage...usually. I've heard from a few people that if you want a really reliable engine then turbo may not be the best route, and this engine has the power I want without the need of forced induction. So I typed that long paragraph to ask the obvious question: How much fabrication would it take to get it installed on a 240. I searched and haven't seen any 3S swapped 240's, and I'd love to be a pioneer at something atleast one time in my life. It bolts directly into an is200 and that car came with a 2jzge so maybe I could get 2jz mounts for a 240 I'm going to read more into it tomorrow but I just wanted to get some input and opinions. thanks and goodnight

hey guys. im a 240 noob.just wondering if anyone has done a LS1 swap into an S14 on here that can give me some pointers. i am looking at an S14 on craigs list that looks like its in good shape, for about 2200, but the engine does not run, cuz something about the wiring harness was cracked. i have also been looking at that companies kit that makes a 'bolt in kit' for the LS1 to fit in the 240. and i have also been looking at LS1s with T56 6 speeds on ebay.i have a few questions as to what rear end do you guys use with the swap, and what drive shaft, and how do i make the front and rear bolt patterns the sameany help would be awsome. i really want to do this. make a nice little V8 drifter

I'm in the planning stages of swaping in a 5.3l in my s13. I'm trying to figure out what tranny to us. the 1st choice is the t-56 but they are not cheap. how would the 5.3l with a t350/t400 on it drive I know it would be good for drag racing but how about just normal day to day driving on the street. I'm new the the t350/t400 world so any info anyone has would be great. thanks

LS2 manifolds alternative to headers

This may be old news to hardcores, but thought I would post this new and save others some grief.Quote, originally posted by Spoolin4days Does any one know if the factory LS1 exahust manifolds will work in a S13 Hopefully I'm not asking too much, but I just want to know what Im getting into before I start ordering parts.Just got through putting a '99 Firebird LS1 / T56 into an '89 HB. The stock LS1 manifolds (Tube type) would have worked OK on passenger side but after cutting and welding on the driver's side, finally gave up and installed LS2 crate motor (Corvette) takeoffs. Passenger side fit perfect, on driver side we installed a GM exhaust flange part# between the manifold and head. This flange is what one would use when making headers. The flange spaced out the manifold perfectly to allow the downpipe to go straight down right next to the frame rail. A cheap and robust alternative to headers when performance is not as big an issue. If anyone is interested I will try to get some pix. Added pix,Modified by gofastnow at 7:52 AM 8/11/2009

2jz into s14 wiring help

I just bought a 2jz/auto and 1jz/5spd to do the swap in my s14. my ecu code is 89661-30870 and i am having a problem finding the correct e10 (ecu plug) pinout for a 1993-1997 aristo since none of the pinouts i seem to find are correct to the plug i have. Might you have the ecu pinout for my ecu I have found that there was a pre 1993 aristo ecu and post 1993 aristo ecu and can only find the pinouts to the pre93 part number ecu. Are all aristo ecu's interchangeable Has anyone on this forum attempted the wiring by themselves I have figured out the aristo dash plug pinout or atleast i think it is correct and i dont think i will have any problems wiring the r154 tranny but any help is greatly appreciated. i dont really want to pay dr.tweak or tech2 over 500$ for wiring that i could do myself; and how do i wire up the dakota digital boxes for the tach and speedo interface

Thanks.

RX7-VH45 Project

Hey,I know I have not posted in a while on Nico, Been super busy with the shop and swaps. Starting VH45 swap #5, this one is in a 85 RX7. Yea, I already know, its gonna be sick. Got this engine a few weeks back, as always I am a picky sob when it comes to engines, and their history. Drove almost 1000 miles in 1 day last week to meet the owner and pick up his car to get started, He drove a lot farther then I did that day. I got 2 Z32's I am finishing at the moment, and a Ferrari that I need to get moved out of the way, and then I can start the work on this. The owner asked me to do a post updated history on this build. For those who do not know, I own a shop in Austin TX specializing in Unique engine swaps, and exotic cars (mostly ferraris,). I build for people all over the world, and from all parts of the USA. This project is using a 94 Q45 motor (non tcs), a 94 N/A Z32 5 spd, and the rear end needs swapped out. Obviously this one is not going under the stock hood. With my DD Z45 I know the power output of this motor with a stick, and in this lil RX7, wow. I have 2 personal Gen II's, and one of those is going to be a VH45, the other has a SHO. Well this is the start of this project. Pics to come, lots and lots of pics over the next 6 weeks.Craigcraigztoyz04@yahoo.com

Pics to come, lots and lots of pics over the next 6 weeks.
Craig
craigztoyz04@yahoo.com

RD28t diesel (importer needed) in 87' Wrangler

READ BEFORE YOU POST or FLAME!OK everyone here's the story...When I first bought the jeep it had a 4.2L I6 2bbl crap engine. A year later I junked it and built a monster 4.6L I6 Stoker motor that would give a built v8 a run for its money. Unfortunately it's not running now and I'm tired of the US motors . So I came up with the idea of a high mpg diesel. Started looking around at small US diesels and then I ran across a JDM diesel motor that in many ways is similar to my RB25DET, The RD diesel series. They are a mechanical turbo diesel so it wouldn't be a wiring nightmare. All that is needed is a custom drive shaft, mount fab., exhaust fab., and a new tank to start kicking. So far I know they are found in the Nissan Patrol Y60. How common they are I do not know. If I cant find a manual turbo version then I'll settle for the N/A ones commonly found in the Laurel's.If anyone knows of a reliable importer that can get their hands on one instead of me searching the web for one please let me know. 4WD is a plus! Before you complain. This build is for the MPG & torque of the diesel's, not the HP. This wrangler is NOT lifted or muddy (it's only on 28's), it's only used for cruising on the highways and local roads.AND before you say anything about it being custom or difficult please know that I have and RB25det and loads of welding and fabrication experience.

hey all new to hybrid forums. was wondering what is needed to do a 7m-gte in a coupe. i have never seen this done before nor is there too much info on how-to's. all info is much appreciated i have two of these motors in mint condition. also i was considering the 1jz/2jz with the 1jz as my preference, soi got the idea of the 7m-gte as its a pretty strong motor. it can handle much abuse and very cost effective. i can get the long block motor set all day for under 1k!! so parts for it aren't an issue.

Cammed LS S-Chassis with Z32 brakes, Issues

\Ok the car is a 91 S-chassis with a head/cam swap LS6.I know a few others run the same or a similar cam and brakes and well I am kinda confused and just cant figure out my issue. So its a 5.7 LS6 with ported and polished 243 heads, and a Texas Speed MS3 cam (.605/610, 238/242 at 114LSA). The brakes are z32 front a rears with a brand new OEM Nissan brake master and they have been bleh to high hell. The issue is the brakes feel like manualish. The pedal only moves down about 2 inch's the first inch is normal then they feel like they are manual brakes. Vacuum lines were checked, then we bled the brakes and nothing they were the same. The vacuum pressure is 12psi on the meter. I then added a comp cams vacuum reserve canister thinking that I wasn't holding enough vacuum. I then replaced the used master cylinder for a brand new one, and we bled the hell out of them again and again. Still they are doing the same thing. At idle I really have to put all my force on the pedal to hold the car in place. Running and driving they feel worse the the OEM S13 brakes, I cant get the brakes to lock to save my life. The only other thing I can think of is the booster maybe, because the calipers are new, master is new, lines are new and nothing. When bleeding with engine running the fluid come out in a nice strong stream. Perhaps the front calipers aren't good, but I don't know.I just figured I'd ask the other LS guys with aggressive cams and z brakes. How do yours feel

Rear end gear question for you LS1/T56 guys

Has anyone tried running the LS1/T56 combo with an s15 diff and ring gear. From what I understand the rear end gearing of the S15 is taller because of the 6 speed they come with. Also how much benefit would you see from something like this. I'd imagine that it would be great for highway MPG and such and when tracking a car I'd assume that it would require you to shift alot less.

Mother of all S13 engine swaps... cobra v8

Just a little teaser of a project I'm working on with my brother alongside my SR20det powered Locost...My brother's s13 coupe is in need of an engine (and lots of other stuff). I saw this at the local pull-a-part and got a good, semi terrifying, idea. So after 2 days of swearing, grunting, bleeding, sweating, and getting sunburned... it was relieved of its previous home and test fit in its new home. Interestingly, the only modifications needed to make it fit are a front sump oil pan and a relocation of the sway bar, both of them being relatively easy to do since I can use the oil pan from another lincoln to get the front sump and the sway bar attaches to the bottom of the frame in a simple way. The engine mounts end up just a few inches from the stock location and the stock lincoln log headers are reversible and end up just clearing the frame rails. I'll probably cut them up and use them for the turbos. Some more info about the motor: its out of the lincoln mark 8, the block is cast in Italy by the same company who casts blocks for ferrari. Its referred to as the Teksid block and is the most sought after as far as mod motor blocks go. Its a DOHC 32 valve v8, 4.6 liters, with the right valvesprings it can easily spin to 7000+ rpms. Its rotating assembly is total s***e, so I went ahead and got the crank, rods, and pistons out of the terminator cobra brand new on ebay. The crank is forged, the rods are manley forged H-beams, and the pistons are forged Mahle with a nice turbo dish and should be good for 8.5:1 ish compression. These parts should be good to 1000 horsepower and the block can handle a ton more still. So far the car cost $350, the engine $200, and the rotating assembly $1090. My brother is working on getting a T56 tranny for about $600 from a guy locally. So the project is going to be kept on the cheap, and it should be quite the sleeper when we're done with it... provided you don't hear the exhaust note and the spoolin twins up front Good first post

I finally purchased my zenki for $2300, a bit more than I'd like, but I needed a decent daily driver until I buy the parts to build the 383, here it is....Plan to build a 383 in my garage w/ about 450 hp. I'll be running the T-10 4spd, with one of the taller nissan r200 rear end gears. A bit of a fender bender in the front so I have a front bumper support on the way along with steering wheel/hub, headers and a glasspack, lol....

Hi! I'm new to the hybrids forum.

Hey everybody... My name is Seth and I have a problem. (like this is an AA meeting or some 12 step program). I recently sold my Rb powered 240 convertible and I'm ready to start a new project. My last car was built to cruise... mild power mods to rb20, shock/springs instead of coilovers, and a full body kit to make it all look nice. This time I want to build one that performs!!!I'm not a hardcore racer, so I'm not going to strip the interior and turn it into a full time track car... But I would like to occasionally take it to a 1/4 mile track, run it on a autocross circuit, or even entertain the idea of drifting... All casually of course. So i've got a S14 shell that needs an engine. I've also got a LQ4 motor that needs a chassis. What I don't have yet is all the decisions made as to how to build this thing. Once I figure out what I need, I can slowly work on buying the parts and putting it together. Here's what I'm planning so far...Most of the hybrid forum readers will already know that the LQ4 is a 6.0L iron block version of the LS1. It's a bit heavier than the aluminum LS1 (about 65 lbs) from what I hear... but because it's got a bit more displacement, the power gains should easily compensate for the extra lbs. The amazing thing about the motor is that it's got a 4.000" bore.. which allows me to fit L92 heads to it. They are cheap heads available through a dealership for like $250 each bare. They are supposed to flow a ton of air. I've been reading articles and forum threads that talk about people making as much as 500hp on the 6L motor with these heads and the corresponding L92 low profile car style intake. So making the power appears to be inexpensive... Mounting the motor should also be a reasonable task thanks to a local buddy of mine who is Mr. Wizard. He's got a lift and all the necessary tools and some great welding skills.. so I should be in good shape there. My problem will be getting the power to the ground.. and all the money that will need to be spent to do that properly. Ouch!If anybody has any suggestions for me on some of these questions... I'd love to hear. Keep in mind I'm still early in the research phase..What trans should I use Joe says T56 all the way. But WD says TH400 is a good choice. What rear endWhat clutchWheels and TiresPlus I'll have a ton of little questions about wiring, engine accessories and other issues. Anyhow.. Just wanted to introduce myself.

Once I figure out what I need, I can slowly work on buying the parts and putting it together.

Here's what I'm planning so far...
Most of the hybrid forum readers will already know that the LQ4 is a 6.0L iron block version of the LS1.

Ouch!

If anybody has any suggestions for me on some of these questions... I'd love to hear. Keep in mind I'm still early in the research phase..
What trans should I use? Joe says T56 all the way. But WD says TH400 is a good choice.
What rear end?
What clutch?
Wheels and Tires?
Plus I'll have a ton of little questions about wiring, engine accessories and other issues.

Anyhow.. Just wanted to introduce myself.

LS1 vs RB25DET

I have been out of the 240sx circle for a few years because I purchased an STI and sold my 240 to pay for frequently broken axles. I recently purchased a 1990 240sx with 91' KA24de swap. I just gutted the interior minus door panels, dash, center console. This is going to be a daily driver, but I am not concerned with comfort as much as driftability . I was talking about the RB and how great it is blah blah...I was dead set on this swap. Then a friend started arguing with me giving me the no replacement for displacement speech. I argued that I can get the same HP and I don't want all that weight up front, but I think he might have a point I have been doing research for countless hours and can't find everything I am looking for nor can I find a general LSx vs RB25DET debate. I'm not doing a KA24DET or an SR or CA so don't bother trying to sell me on them :PWhat I am looking for for the LS1:-Can you keep power steering Pretty sure I saw an adapter in this forum section for this but wanted to be sure.-Heating and A/C I could really care less about the A/C but the heat is a must for defrosting/defogging/etc.-How much harder is it than the RB swap I can fabricate, weld, etc... I even get sheetmetal and stuff free so not as concerned about stuff like that. Just the hassle in general compared to an RB.-Most important...Weight How much do they weigh in the car with everything If everything I have found so far I owe my friend an apology and the LSx motors are 300lbs lighter!!!!!!!-Is there anywhere that has decent prices on swap parts for the LS motors Hinson seems expensive. I can fab stuff, but its so much better to just bolt it in -Electronics/engine management...When you start to mod the LS1 are there standalones or ways to change the S13 computer for this Is the wiring harder/ more expensive I have pretty much been anti American Muscle since I was 16 and rode in my first SR swapped 240 so I have very little knowledge on V8s so any info is appreciated...Thanks

How much power can I expect from a bridgeport 13b

No, I'm not lost. I'm just disenchanted by the strange allure that rotary owners have for their peculiar machines. Honestly, I have a better chance of finding N/A rotary dynos on these forums than I do rotary communities. But alas.I have a '85 RX7 GSL-SE and I am planning to swap in a VH45DE into it. I decided I have the funds to build an engine for my beloved RX7 but at the same time I realized that N/A rotary engines are full of fail. Maybe I'm being harsh Nah.So I am here for to learn all I can of the VH. I know a bit, thanks to a few members here that share info with me. But its time I became part of the community if you Nissan guys will accept me.
