sr20de cracked head gasket

hello i have a '93 sentra se-r with a sr20de and i believe the head gasket is cracked, there is exahst in the coolant. Im trying to decide if i want to rebuild it or put in a new sr20de engine or put in a sr20det. i have never swaped or re-built and engine before but i have a chilton repair manual so i think a re-build would be fairly easy. does any one have any tips or advice to give me??

How hard is it to swap a ga16 to an sr20 de or ve since their the same block? And what all does that entail? Its going in a 97 200sx se 5spd!

I have a 96' 200SX SE, and looking to swap for a SR20DE. I'm going to school at the moment, and i have oil problems with my stock 1.6L. I want more power, but can my stock tranny handle the new engine? I will most likely upgrade the SR20 with a turbo once i could, but I would use my car mostly for a commuter; so i wouldn't want the power from it all the time. I'm somewhat new to this, and how much would an engine, and maybe if a tranny was needed, would cost.

I wreck my car's front end about a year ago so i would also swap out the radiator, also the condenser. Would a intercooler interfere with the condenser?

I live in seattle, and looking to buy a bike. But the weather isn't the best all the time so a car is needed. Any thing will help. Thanks.

I really have no idea what kind of engine swaps can be done to the 200sx so can anybody help me. i want to swap the 200sx ser engine with one thats a 2.4 liter but already comes built to handle a 250 horse power setup with a turbo. oh yea and does anybody know of good sites for a swap kit or built engines for the 200sx?

Hey guys, when my car is idling it idles pretty low and i can feel the engine shake.

Also, after driving when I put the car into park like 2 out of 5 times it will just stall. Other times the RPM drops really low and the engine shakes pretty bad but it recovers. I don't know whats wrong with it.
Any help?

Inherited a free 91 SE-R. It has had an engine swap, necessary after a gas station failed to tighten the drain plug and ruined the original engine. I believe it now has a red top SR20DE, but the car is not in front of me, I haven't seen it in quite a while. Need to pick it up before snow hits.

Can someone delineate between the silver, black, and red top engines for me? I'm a Suby person, not very familiar with Nissan yet.

Also curious what people do about the popping out of fifth issue, seems common. What's the best fix? Rebuild? or is there some Nissan god uber fix that I don't know about. It sounds pretty bad.

HELP with AEM EMS on a GTI-R swap

hello, this is a stock GTI-R engine.
the car started before with the AEM EMS now the engine is not getting spark or fuel when cranking, when i plug the stock ECU the car runs fine, for some reason the AEM EMS isnt reading any RPM (engine speed) from the crank/cam sensor when cranking and thats why it is not trowing fuel and spark into the engine, any clues ??

i got a 1995 G20 automatic and it will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear it shifts thru 1st and 2nd fine doesn't miss or anything just wont shift took it to transmission guy he said he needed to rebuild it for $2500.00 but i would rather get a rebuilt trans and put it in myself but wanted to make sure it wasnt a speed sensor or something simple before i tear this thing down

ive just fineshed putting my sr20det from a 4wd into my fwd u13 bluebird.
its running fine apart from after driving it when its warm, once you turn it off it wont start again untill hours later after its cooled down.

any ideas????

Coolant Consumption, Help!

Recently changed water pump, it never failed. Just preventative. After that, I did something stupid. One week after water pump change, I ran the car for like 1 minute without adaquate water. I opened the radiator drain plug, and to drain as much of the old out, I let car run low. Temperature got a little high, but nowhere near red. After refilling, I noticed a slight smell of burning coolant. Really not a big deal. About one week after this, car starts heating up and upon investigation, I realize coolant level is low.

Here is the deal. At idle, or in traffic, the engine consumes a slight amount of coolant. Cruising at freeway speed, I lose no coolant. The consumption is so slight, that even driving traffic, when consumption takes place, it takes a week to lose enough coolant to cause high temps. I notice no loss of power, indicating good compression, and there is no water in oil.

My question is, can I simply retorque the head? How to do. Is it a big job?

1991 sentra ser with jdm sr20 motor swap.
the car stalls out when the car should idle when driving, pushing the clutch in.
it will start right back up.
speedo doesnt work.
revs fine and pulls good. althought there might be a small vac leak.

we believe it is ether the, speedo cable, speed sensor or the idle control thing.
also the speedo cable may not be pluged into the back of the speedometer. does that matter for the speed sensor signal to get to the ecu.

found the car cheap and this is its problem. thanks for your help

hey troops. anybody ever heard of these guys. im worried that there price being too good to be true. He (Micheal) the sales guy has the AEM plug and play with UEGO gage/controller (not the U model) at about $300 cheaper, dilivered than anybody else. i spoke with AEM yesterday and they couldn't give me any info on him or the price.

hey i was wondering if any1 had ne ideas as 2 y my primera would start surging.
It only surges when it is held at a constent speed. e.g when im doin 50kms in 3rd gear and try to keep it at 50kms it starts to surg but as soon as i put my foot down it stop or when i take my foot of it stops.

If any 1 has any ideas as to what the problems might be please let me know.

Helped a partner fit a sr20DET rr in a B14 sentra. He kept destroying his ACT copper clutch about every three months as the car is his daily driver. He installed an automatic transmission by adjusting the holes in the flex plate. Now he hears noises when starting and driving. Noises sound like metal striking metal and or backlash. Is there anything that can be done to solve this problem without going back to manual transmission.

hi, just a quick question about valves, got two duff ones in my sr20ve and in nz there not too cheap. $110 bucksw plus gst plus postage from japan and about a 2 week wait. i can get a DE head for cheap but dows anyone know if the valves will fit?????

also anyone got a manual for a VE, will need to know the set up for the cam timing and also valve clearance.

I can't find anything on a rebuild for this turbo. I'm getting a lot of smoke out of my exhaust but not losing oil from my dipstick reading. any thoughts what it could be? my techs are telling me piston rings and others say turbo is done. what should i do? I like the power of this turbo and want to keep it.

im a noob in imports so ive doing some studying and came up with that i should put a sr20det front cut in my 94 1.6L 4 door 5 speed fwd sentra because it has the performance trani along with the complete motor. I have read that this would come out of a blue bird.
is this right?
where should i look for one that is in the US?
if i'm wrong what is the best way to boost my car?

Ive been looking into getting a car with an SR motor or maybe an RB25, idk yet though.
my question is what kind of cars could i possibly put them into?
im not going to find a 240sx in my area. im going to have to leave my state to get a decent one.
i could possibly find a Sentra close but it would be tough.
and a Dahstun, idk.
so really, do i have any other options?
it needs to go in with little custom modification becuase i onyl have basically my shop class to do any custom work.

Hey guys....my buddy has a 1994 Nissan Sentra 4-door. It isn't an se-r, so I'm assuming its the ga16 or whatever and its an automatic. He said he would sell it to me for 600 bucks. I've been trying to do some research on the sr20det swap before I go ahead and buy the car from him. I know quite a bit about the sr20 240's but not too familiar with the fwd sr's being swapped into sentras. None of the shops around here carry the fwd sr and so far I've found 2 websites to buy from. My question is do these seem like good deals or decent companies to buy from?

The first link the engine doesnt come with a transmission for the car and I cant seem to find where to buy the SE-R 5 speed tranny to put in.

And my other than that...the only other things I would need to get it running I would assume is from the parts list in the sr20det f.a.q thread for the 1.6 to 2.0 sr20 swap? Thanks for any help and info on this.

Im not worried about downtime on the car because I have a truck that I use as my daily driver.

ok troops im sending this out to the masses. i have a completly built de head. from david price racing in califonia.
c2 cams from jwt
valve springs . titaniun retainers,bronze valve guides. complet port and polish with 1mm onersized black nitrite coted vales.. this thing is nasty above 4500rpm. i ran it on a high compresion de block for a while and got board. i went with a gtir swap and now im board again. i have spoken with the guys at jwt and daviv price. i sent it back to them to have the exhaust ports resized for the turbo aplication but am still a little nervouse about putting in the car. with all this being said this head has about 2grand in it and i really dont want to start over with the gtir head. i plan on using all of the gtir components i can. throttle body and so forth. right now the bigges draw back about this setup is i will have very little low rpm drivability but this is not my daily driver and i can live with it when i hand another mustang his a** at the track.let me know what you think.

hello,

i have encountered very strange problem and i need your suggestions - it seems that chain gets to much tension and is making noise when slides on chain guides.
today i have changed tensioner to part# 13070-2J203 (as i know this is the newest tensioner available), because my engine had nasty chain slap sound on start-up. now my car starts up fine. oil pressure rises very fast and it seemed that everything is ok, but after few minutes of idling, i got that chain/chain guide "some kind of" sliding noise. it is not very harsh, but is clearly heard.
it is definately not powersteering pump/water pump/ alternator - i have removed both belts to make sure. i have also removed the 1308553J11 - the upper chain guide (between camshaft sprockets).
so it is possible for sound to come from those: chain (it seems to be ok, does not have bad scores or anything. engine has about 150k kms on it so chain should be ok. but it seems that tensioner has pushed it very far though), two chain guides (both seems to be ok, doesn't look that they are badly worn), tensioner (it is completely new).
I am running out of ideas - what the hell could it be?
overtighted/stretched chain? but i haven't heard that sound before with my old tensioner.
worn chain guides? they could not wear out while i was changing tensioner.

maybe there is some kind of oil squirter that lubricates the chain while it slides over chain-guides? maybe it got blocked by debris? if so, where is it?

more info about that sound - it comes when deaccelerating on very low rpm's (2k and below), also on idle. it is not heard when revving up. comes from tensioner side chain-guide.

so, please suggest something, because i'm starting to hate that car

tomorrow i will install my old tensioner to check if the sound goes away.

Clutches...

I just bought a 91 SE-R with a few slight mods to the motor, possibly putting out about 10-15 more hp than stock...

Anyhow, the idiot that had it before has a stage 3 clutch in it. Basically, you have to STAND on top of the pedal to mash the clutch. In addition to that the clutch is all the way out at about 1.5-2 inches from the floor.

#1 It kills your foot if your in town a lot.

#2 There is no way my wife could drive it in town.

#3 The cable couldn't last much longer...

My questions to you guys is: Would putting a stage 1 clutch in it fix this problem? Would it be easier to mash and could we adjust it to where the clutch isn't all the way out at about 2 inches from the floor?

ok to start with let me give a description of the car.91 sentra ser , 97 fwd blacktop avenir engine,stock maf#22680-54c01 i have installed a gt28 rs , walbro 255 never installed my denso 550's. just put the ecu in that came with the engine to do a startup(will have jim wolf soon).started up ran idled kind of rough but when the electric fan would kick on it would start loping like crazy and die ,so i unhooked the maf big diff. it would surge a little but it idled pretty good and the fan did not affect it.well i left the cars side that night to sleep a little,got to it the next morning and it sound like a suburua when i started it so i pull the v.c and the rocker arm was off from the intake side of the #4 cylinder how does this happen sitting in the driveway at a idle??so i put the rocker back in place instlled both shims rocker arm locked in shims held 175 psi on that cyl. so back to trying to get this thing running right , well i never could get it tyo idle right with the maf so i give up for a couple of hours same thing wouldnt start so i pull the #4 spark plug and it is soaked i pull the v.c and is is the same thing exact same rocker arm. is there any way my fuel pump could be causing this,my #4 cylinder also has gas standing in it.BUT WHY WOULD THE ROCKER BE COMING OFF????????????

well i just bought a 96 200sx with a sr20det swap. its running around 11 lbs of boost... turbo is leaking on exhaust side will this hurt the engine?
and it has a very rough idle and it wants to idle at 500 rpmish and stalls alot and i was wondering if somebody could tell me how to adjust the idle up to maybe 750 or something. anything would help because when stoping it wants to stall constantly and requires fancy clutch work... lol

I just recently got my SR running in my 200sx. It's been making a pretty bad noise since the first start and I havn't been able to pinpoint it. Take a look at my video and see if you have a clue what it could be. To me it sounds like it's around the bell housing...

Can anyone help with this,

I have had my injectors changed and they are still flooding cylinders 3 and 4. it runs ruff or dosent start. mechanic wants to change them again, i think its the computer, but he is sure its not. im not confident its the injectors the second time round.

I have replaced the fuel pump, and electrical has been checked theres spark, mechanical is ok as well.

Is there anyhting else i shoud be looking at such as sensors ?

So I am thinking about buying this 1996 Nissan 200SX SE-R, but I am a little confused about what this guy is saying about it. I have looked up the Nissan specs and with the stock motor its supposed to get around 31-33 mpg. This guy is saying "The motor he replaced it with is a newer generation SR20DE which is more efficient then the stock engine which means better mpg and more performance" I expect the better performance, but my friend read somewhere that the SR20DR actually decreases the mpg. Though supposedly he was able to get 40 mpg on a long trip up the Oregon coast. Is he telling the truth or is that much of the story BS? What kind of mileage should I expect out of this car?

im doin a prohect for my highschool. it involes rebuilding a car part, and taking it to comopetion.i was thinking of buying a blown turbo and fixing it. im not sure if this was possible for me to do alone or if im going to have to take it to machine shop. if anyone has any info just let me know please. and if there is any performance part that is rebuildable for the sr20 just let me know. i plan on using the part on my engine after the competion is done

As you can see its leaking oil and i need another one. What is this? I havent had time to investigate yet and couldnt find it in my manual. So im not bout ready to go play in a foot of snow looking under it to see where it goes. Thanks in advance!

need help about turbo elbow + exhaust system.
ok so im really lost now all i think i need left is this:

Oil feed/return lines
turbo elbow
exhaust system

First question is, anyone know where and which one to buy the Oil feed/return lines from, price doesnt matter to me (im sure u guys will give a good product).

Second, how will i do this elbow job?

how does a speed limiter operate/function

What actually happens when the speed limiter is activated on a fwd sr20 (U13 Bluebird engine in a Sunny B14)? Does the fuel pump just switch off alone? In other words, can I just power my fuel pump with direct power as opposed to ECU power, in order to beat the speed limiter?

My Sr20det has a little problem that.....i think its either the voltage n vacum leak

When i start up the car, i have the rev it a lil pass 1500rpm so the dashboard light.....will be brighter as usual also when i warm up the car.....the rpm drops 700rpm or a lil bit below.....seems like battery's low but i changed it recently.... PS: i have the small battery

but if i drive the car for awhile than none of these problems will occur....does anyone have an idea??

i have a 92 sentra e and im planning on doing either a sr20de or det swap i found a nx2000 and the junk yard and started ripping things off immediately but someone already took the ecu and i was wondering if even though it was a automatic sr20de is it like a 240sx were you can still use the engine harness?? because i left it because i wasnt sure it would work......i know alot about 240sx's but im new to sentras so your help is much appreciated thanks....

again the question is will a automatic nx2000 sr20de harness work in a 92 sentra E chassis if so is it plug and play or will something have to be moded???

sr20 clutch/cable problems

I have a 96 200sx se-r and i have a problem with the clutch engagement. there is about 2 inches in the pedal of free play before the clutch actually engages. i have already adjusted the cable to aid the problem and it is to the point to were i cannot adjust it anymore. im thinking i was sent the wrong pressure plate in my clutch kit. does anyone know what could be the problem?

I have a non 91-94 SE-R chassis ga16de sentra.it is manual and I have a SE-R parts car [salvaged title].
I am first converting the car to use the sr20de for awhile.When I start to swap in the sr20ve what ECU do I use?.

and can't I use the sr20de distributor if I modify the tab to clear?.

and what all wiring is needed to convert from sr20de to VE ?

First i would like to extend a preemptive apology if this has been previously discussed, because i know it has been to some extent... i searched a bit but could not find exactly what i was looking for. I would just like to get some more boost knowledgeable peoples opinions on this.

I've got a B13 SE-R with an avenir motor, GT2871R, 72lb injectors, JWT ECU, Z32 MAF, FMIC, 255L/HR fuel pump, JGY fuel Rail, Profec Spec II, and JWT S3's. Other than the cams everything internal is stock. Also 3" dp, gutted cat, 3" cat back. What is the MAX safe boost pressure that i could run with this setup for short periods of time (maybe 15-20 min) without F'n up anything. And also round about how much power would upgraded axles become a must?

NEED HELP WITH AEM FIC

Hi guys a friend of mine bought an AEM FIC to install in his SR20DE+T powered B14 sentra and he asked me to install it for him, i have installed safc's and speed defenders etc so i figured that this wouldnt be so hard. After searching google i only found a write up for a KA on this forum but the ecu pinout is the same diagram as the sr20de...i have all the injectors hooked up and the MAF in and out as well as the tps etc the problem i am having now is the Cam and Crank signals

now i put found the pinouts for the crank on the ecu, one is the 180* signal and the other is the 1 time signal, as per the diagram i am using. The write up said that both wire spilt in two about a foot from the ecu, this was true for one of the signal wire it goes to pins 22 and 30 (180* signal, the wire is blue with a silver dot) the other pinouts have pins 31 and 40 as the (1 time signal) but there is no wire at pin 40

so i cut the wire to pin 31 (black with white stripe) an put the CRKHALI+ on the ecu side and the CRKHALO+ on the harness side, and for the other two pins i traced them back to where they had split and before the split put the CAMHALI+ on the ecu side and the CAMHALO+ on the harness side. I then put the bypass plug on the f/ic harness and started the car....or rather attempted to start it lol

the car has 370cc sr20det injectors so it didnt idle properlt at all, i hooked up the AEM and i went in to the fuel map,MAF load and i took off -20 across the entire map and this made no difference, i then tried the same thing on the MAP load with no effect either so i tried playing aroung with the MAF voltage map this some effect when i put the same voltage output value across the rpm range (just like how the write up had it set) this resulted in a slightly better idle but i know i shouldnt have to mess around with that map its just mainly the MAF load,MAP load and ignition.

i thought maybe i had the injectors crossed but the car wouldnt start if they were so now i am thoroughly pissed off and wanting to pull my hair out....so HEELLPPPPP!!!!! please someone

I'm working on a 99 G20 (sr20de)

has a distributor, with new cap/rotor, plugs and wires.

I changed 2 of the injectors thinking that was part of it, seemed better for 1 mile, then its back to major misfire. Not as noticable in nuetral, but in gear, under load, it is bad.

Worse when you get higher in rpm.

Lookng for advice, and ideas.

experince with this problem is really what i am looking for.

i have recently purchesed a 1994 sentra xe stock and i have also purchesed a sr20de motor. i am new to the nissans and need some help on what to do. i also what to throw some boost to the sr20 de and dont know what to do any assistants and pointers would be greatly apprecieated.

b13 SE-R Sr20det bluebird U12 swap

I am picking up a b13 sentra SE-R and I have a few clarification questions about the swap itself and the SE-R transmission.

1. Am I going to use the sr20de engine harness, lower harness, mounts, clutch bracket, ecu, starter, alternator, MAF, 02 sensor, TPS, AAC, and IACV. Transfer them to the sr20det. Are there any other sensors I need from the sr20de?

2. Where should I weld the SE-R tranny to ensure that it won't crack or break?
I have heard that the transmission should be welded for strength but I have searched and found nothing about it specifically.

3. Do I need a new radiator or is the sr20de one sufficient?

4. Do i need to notch the sr20det block to clear the crossmember or is this only for the ga16 models?

5. Am I missing anything?

I appreciate any help that I can get.

I have a 1991 Nissan NX2000 and all my interior electronics are out. I just replaced my alternator and belt because they went out yesterday.

I had to jump the car because the battery had died, but when it started, literally ALL the interior electronics wouldn't work. The speedometer, the RPMs, the radio, dash lights, engine temperature gauge...EVERYTHING.

They all worked before I replaced the alternator. I checked the fuses and they're fine. After the alternator went out, I started the car and ran it for a while just on battery until it died completely.

Also, when I replaced the alternator, at first the positive terminal of the alt. was touching the Ground a little bit, and the pos. battery cable smoked when it was connected. I fixed the positive terminal on the alternator and all was fine with the battery afterward. I don't think this is it, but I figured I'd mention it.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?

I have a 96 g20 auto that surges when cold and in gear. It revs fine when in park. I had a 94 sentra do the same thing a few years ago but can't remember what it was. Anyone else expirence this?
