B210 automatic transmission leaking from top

Fluid seems to be at a proper level, (possibly not) but I have a periodic (and sometimes very wet) leak coming from the top (it actually comes up through the floor [Tranny and engine are not in a Datsun] besides dripping on the ground). Seems to happen on warmer days when engine is run harder. Other days, no leaks. Transmission was serviced and pan is tight. The car did sit for a number of years.Any ideas before I take it to a shop for closer scrutiny

83 Datsun Maxima For sale

Hello everyone, I Have a 1983 Datsun 810/Maxima that I have owned for about a year now.I purchased it while I was living in California for the soul purpose to get me home to NY.Well it got me here and it was a tough little trooper the whole way. I decided to keep the ol' girl and use her as my daily driver. but now winter is coming again and I just decided its time for a 4X4. I would keep the car and hole off but I have 2 other classic cars sitting in my driveway. So i need to sell one.As most of you probably know it has the same engine and trans as the 240 Z with independent rear suspension which rides like a Cadillac. Engine is very reliable, oil changes regular, recent tune up with plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, new brake pads all arouns, new discs up front (4 wheel disc, rears were still good) Alpine stereo system. Missing rear bumper cover, trim around shift boot, and glove box cracked but still closes. NO RUST!!!!!!below is a link to my add on craigslist.please let me know if you are interested. http://hudsonvalley.craigslist....html

Looking for parts for 1981 Nissan Datsun 200SX

I am looking for replacement parts for my 1981 200SX Hatchback. Particularly, front instrument panel (with tach, odometer, etc), front dash, driver and passenger arm rest, original seat covers, rear speaker covers and windshield wiper reservoir that does not leak. This is a great car but it's starting to need some repair after 400K miles.

1976 B210 Carburetor problem

I have a 1976 Datsun B210; just purchase one week back. Car starts up fine but only if I keep my foot on gas peddle, to keep car running. I drove car 35 mile to get it home in the same condition. But every time I got off the peddle, car would shut down. Already replace fuel pump (was leaking) and fuel filter and have ordered a carburetor kit. But do you think the carburetor is or could be the problem

67.5 Roadster Wiring Issue

I found a lot of general info about my question but I want to ask a couple of specifics. Please don't flame me if the answer is here and i didn't find it. Greg and I took the roadster out for a drive the other night. She fired right up but the lights wouldn't come on. He got underneath the hood and 'jiggled' the wiring harness and the lights came on. We drove to the store, no issues. When we came out of the store (only in there a couple of minutes) the car wouldn't start. The battery was completely dead. Some one jumped us off and we were back on our way. About two miles from the house, we went over the railroad tracks and the lights went out again. Luckily it was a deserted road and there was a full moon. We got her home but the lights have not worked since. I started taking her apart Saturday afternoon. Everything was nasty, as most 40 year old cars are, so I cleaned everything I could get to. I removed the horn relay (since it was right there), cleaned it up and the connections and did the same with the headlight relay. None of the wires looked burned or damaged but I traced everything, replaced the tape at the connections and used new heat shrink to clean things up. I had one blown fuse that I replaced and checked all the others. I checked all the wires that run along the side of the car and there were no breaks in them. The protective tape that covered them was filthy, but there were no tears. The wires going into the firewall look to be well covered / protected also. I took some of that wrap off just to see what it looked like underneath and it looks like it did the day it came out of the factory. We have a wiring diagram of the car and nothing seems to be crossed. Also, the lights WERE working and i didn't just rip everything apart and play guess work about where things were supposed to reconnect. I redid one wire at a time. We charged the battery, hooked it up and hit the switch. The horn now works (which Greg says it never did before) but I still do not have any lights at all. No headlights, fog lights, tail lights, brake lights, nothing. I'll be the first to admit that wiring is NOT my strong point so I am just looking for a starting point as far as the most common points of failure. My first thought was "Is the relay itself bad" and if so, how do I test it As a side note, there is no arcing or sparking at all, so I don't think it's a failed ground, but then again, I am no expert. I've tried to take ownership of this part because Greg hates wiring even worse than me, but I also need to learn what I am doing so when I go to wire up my S30, I'll know what I need to do. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

datsun 510 potential

hi, im new here. im not much of a fan for imports but my buddy wants to sell me his 68 datsun 510 four door for 1000 bucks with everything but the motor and 1500 with the motor. the motor is out of a 240zx or something like that and it has the transmission from the same car in it aswell. now my question is, im after a ton of power, and i want it relatively cheap, and i love v8's and im gonna have a left over 305 chevy small block left over with port fuel injection and i was planning on swapping that into the datsun, i imagine id need to get special mounts and a matching transmission, but im wondering has anyone done this or is the 240zx motor just a better way to go im looking for power and reliability since i wanna be able to drive it daily. currently the 305 in my camaro gets about 20 to the gallon freeway and around 15 to 17 city, which isnt bad. can i hope to keep this mpg with the datsun or even expect it to go up since its a lighter carthanks, sorry for all the questions

KA24e 5 speed tranny bolt to a NapZ 2.0l engine

I just bought a KA24E with a 5 speed tranny, going to eventually swap it all in my 1981 Datsun 510.My car has a stock Z20S engine with a 4 speed.I'm wondering if i can begin my swap with the KA's 5 speed tranny onto my Z20 engine, until i get all of the required electrical system to do the full swap(ecu, harness etc etc) (btw, i have read about swaps into 510's but none have my engine, and they are all 60's-70's cars, they are all replacing the L series engines)

Hey all Was just wondering how difficult it would be to turbocharge a L16 , and if possible , how difficult would it be and what would be needed to complete the job I've seen pictures of P510's with L16 turbo charged motors and was just wondering how difficult it would be to do a turbo conversion on the motor.I'm planning to do a sr20det swop in a couple of months time , but for now just want a little more oomph . Your info would be greatly appretiated.

Ka24de 510 Wiring Q's

Hey, I'm working on doing the KA swap into my 71 510. I recently stumbled upon a heck of a deal on the engine & trans. I got the engine(KA24DE) from a 91 240sx, pretty much complete, along with what was said to be an s14 5-speed. I also got a wiring harness with it. Upon mocking up the engine w/ the harness on the stand, it turns out that there is a 2nd wiring harness that hooks into my oil pressure, starter, alternator, and trans. My question on this is, do I need this harness Or would it be possible for me to just feed these circuits off of existing Datsun circuits(I'm guessing not). And if so, what do I do about the 3 sensors on the tranny(I'm guessing they're a neutral/safety, reverse light, and speed sensor). Also, am I going to need the fuse/relay boxes I haven't seen anybody's car up close(or paid attention when I did) enough to take notice. I don't want to half-a** this, but I'm having a hell of a time tracking down a 91-94 240sx to get these parts out of.The electrical parts I need at this point(to the best of my knowledge), are:-ECU-Lower Wiring Harness-MAFI have the larger Wiring Harness segment that plugs into the Distributor, Fuel Rail, Throttle Body, etc.. but that's it. I'm not sure if there's anything else I need. I'm sure someone here knows EXACTLY what I need, and to whomever you are, thanks in advance.Cheerio!

heyi have some questions for you guys that know much more than me about swaps.i bought a 73 510 2 door.........the interior wiring harness is completely ripped out of the car and put into a bag.it looks like angel hair pasta.i was wondering if my idea would worki know that when doing a swap the harnesses have to be merged togetherwould it work if i bought a sr20 front clip. with dash engine ect. to be able to put it into the 510.i know the dash would have to be modified to work.i was thinking i could use the rhd dash and convert my 510 to rhd. along with use the engine and chassis harness from the car to wire up the 510meaning i wouldnt have to go find a wiring harness for a 510..i dont know if this would work or not so i thought id ask.in my head it seems like it will

New to the forum, here is my '68 Roadster! (lots of build pics, semi up to date)

Hey, my name is Tom, and here is my current money-hole...I bought a '68 Datsun "Fairlady" 1600 Roadster (SPL311) about a year ago. here is it after hours of cleaning right after buying it. (it sat outside for 2 years with NO top!) I drove it 100 miles back home despite this, in the rain. (yes it ran, even after sitting in a field 2 years! well enough to go 65MPH for an hour and a half!!!) :shortly after getting her, i discovered she had been in an accident, and had received a hack job of putting her back straight. she had 2 different fenders (parts are hard to find too, so this was a problem) one of which was poorly welded together after being cut in half .the bumpers were crushed and the frame where they mounted was deformed... part of the front clip was missing completely too. the whole car looked like a pop can that had been crushed and reformed poorly.after changing the oil, i discover why the motor ticked so much... there was gas in the oil.... great.after putting only a few miles on her, she wouldn't run at less than 3200RPM.the headlights wouldn't even turn on without wiggling wires... later i discovered the relay was arcing!so what i have is a car that barely runs, and some parts... fantastic...THE SOLUTION: start over!i found a '69 2000 with no motor, trans, interior (i had bought bumpers off it which is how i discovered the damage to my car), but the body and frame are PERFECT!!! absolutely no dents or rust! the sides of the car are straight as an arrow! the owner offered to sell the whole thing for... get this... 100 bucks. that's delivered to my house!!! so here it is!then my luck came back, cheap parts fell from the sky. i bought a 91 KA24E motor and trans for 150 bucks (running, in good order, 150k on it), 2 Mazda miata seats for 25 bucks (for the pair!!!) a driveshaft AND harness for the 240sx for 60 bucks, and tons of parts from the junk yard.time to make up for my misfortune!!! since it may be awhile before i drive the KA powered car, i may as well drive the other one. here is what i have done so far just for the hell of it:Paint: (total spent, 6 bucks)new shocks: (cheapos)look how tiny they are!!!the wrong center console for the year, but it works fine.new tie rods, and center link:Rebuilt the carbs:replaced that leaky fuel pump:and painted the rotors and hubs:New rollbar made by AutoPower:plus fixing the speedo (only to have it break again....), new brake master cylinder (second time was the charm), new headlight relay (rewired), a scrounged and repaired soft top, new air cleaner assembly, and cheapo 4 point harnesses. She runs GREAT now... well enough, i splurged and bought some gold Drag DR20 15" wheels and 205/50/15 BFG G-Force Super Sports for her. should be here in the next few weeks!!!i will keep you all updated as she progresses. the heart transplant in the other body has been postponed, due to having no garage. My girls (before most of this work...):

L18 Burning Oil.. Why

Alright, the scenario is this: I bought this engine over a year ago, and it'd been sitting a while before that(Not sure how long exactly). Guy said that he got it from a friend, but never ran it. He told me it only had about 10k miles on it, since the rebuild.Fast forward to last week. Installed the engine into my 71 510 Wagon. Ran it for a few days. Noticed blue smoke out the tailpipe and figured the rings needed to seat up. Ran it more. Drove it on a 300mile trip, keeping the oil level up. Still burning. Not sure if it's as bad now, but the plugs don't look too bad. Valve stem seals look good and supple. Compression is 170 straight across and I have about 8% leakage evenly also. My question is.. has anybody had this problem before and it NOT been rings I just don't want to pull the motor if I don't have to. What I think is that whomever put the engine together either installed the oil control rings incorrectly, or didn't stagger the gaps.. If that's the problem, I'll deal with it. But I don't want to yank the engine and pull it apart if I don't have to. Thanks for the help.

L20B Questions

Hey, thinkin' about hopping up a spare L20B I have laying around, but I don't want to dump a bunch of money into it. I'd like to put flat top pistons into it, and slap a ported A87 peanut head on. A little spicier cam, and my set of 42mm Mikunis would have to go on as well as a header. I suppose my questions are:What have YOU done or seen as far as flattop pistons in an L20B Would it be worth the time/moneyShould I just look into getting a SSS grind cam Or would the L20B cam be sufficientDo you think a dogleg 5-speed will be ok for this combination Stock 4-speedIs this gonna be something that I'll want to drive around as a semi-daily(Yes, I know that it won't get the fuel efficiency that a stock 1.6 does, but I have a bunch of those laying around if I don't like it)Cool, thanks.

Testing my automatic choke

Hey all,I took out my carburetor to try to figure out why it is working improperly and I was thinking that the electric choke might not be working. While the engine was running, I disconnected the only wire that connects to it and nothing happend. Does anyone know how many volts I could send through the electric choke to test if it is workingThis is the carb that I have:http://www.clutchkitcenter.com...6.pdf32/36 DGEVThe problem is that the colder it is outside, the longer it takes for my engine to crank and finally start up. So I am thinking that the automatic choke is not working at all.If it is broken, does anyone also know how I could fix itAlso I found out that I don't have a strainer where the fuel line is.

Questions about 510 parts exchange/upgrade.

I've been surfing through the forums, digging out information. I just need clarification on the 280 struts are a direct bolt on, as I've read that I may have to cut and weld pieces from my stock strutLooking for more stability and control than stock. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to change out the front breaks and everything else that comes with it.My resources are limited only by what I can pull off by hand in my local "pull it yourself" junk yards. The rear end sags on it's own, which makes speed bumps an exhaust hazard. What is a replacement for the rear springs on this old babyI know, for sure, that I will be replacing the alternator (to a single wire system), and the distributor to an electronic system (the point system on this old girl has given me pains for years - running on one point currently)Thanks!

B210 Questions

Hey Everyone, New to the site.I am thinking about buying my friends 75 B210 hatchback. Mechanically it seems to be in good shape but I know from owning and working on a 70 Cougar XR7 that it's old and it's gonna break. My main question is are parts available for that motor still Also it has some body rust and I was wondering where to order some replacement parts Any websites or cataloges you all can recomend would be great. My next question is what motors are easily swapped into a B210 Keep in mind that I swapped out the original motor and built the motor and transmission for my Cougar so I know there really is no "easy swap." Just wondering which ones I can do with out any heavy modifications. Thanks for the help!

What's a good deal on a ka24DE

I'm planning on upgrading my 71 510, and I'm leaning towards a KA24DE, for practicality and economical purposes. I don't have cash to throw towards an SR20, otherwise I'd be more than happy to go that route. What my question is, what should I be looking for, and how much is too much I've recently come across a KA out of a wrecked 99 Altima. He wants 350 for the engine, or 500 for the engine/trans combo(it's automatic... I'd like to go manual). Not sure if those are FWD vehicles, anyhow. Anyway, the motor has 80k on it, and doesn't come w wiring harness or cpu. Good, or no good Thanks

1980 Datsun 720 issue: clutch won't engage

Hi,I recently purchased a 1980 Datsun 720 Pickup with the knowledge that the clutch doesn't engage AT ALL. I was planing on towing home and bringing it to a shop to get it fixed but the towing fees are just ridiculous. I'm starting to think its just the master cylinder needing fluid and it should engage. The way he described it was that it would start to not fully engage, then it wore slowly until it didn't engage anymore. This sounds to me like it leaked fluid somehow. I'm thinking I might be able to just fill the clutch cylinder with fluid and it will get me home. It will probably leak and lose fluid again but then I can at least get it home without towing and it'll also help me find the leak so I can fix it. so my question is, does this sound logical Also what else COULD cause a clutch to slowly go out until it doesn't engage at all-570

Can anyone help me out Just bought my first 510

Hey folks, haven't posted in a LONG time. I just bought my first 510 with hopes of swapping a KA24E into it. I'm certainly not new to the KA motor, as I have a 1990 240sx and a 1996 240sx. I already have a spare KA24E, 5spd tranny, ecu, wiring harness, etc. As far as I can tell the only major differences lie in the cross member needing to be reversed, a sway bar removed, and a transmission mount. Oh, and obviously a shortened drive shaft. It all seems quite straight forward, but I was really wondering if someone/anyone had the pics (which are now broken) to help wit the walkthrough under the Datsun 510 KA swap page. I'm an extremely visual learner so any help would be greatly appreciated.http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.phpid=186157

BMW Powered Datsun 510

I'm thinking about getting a datsun 510 and doing an engine swap. I'm coming from driving BMWs all my life and I'd love to swap a 2.8l M52 or the 3.2l E36 M3 S52, hell, even an E30 M3 S14 motor into a 510 and then have my way with it and the 510 seems pretty easy to work on :D. Couple of questions.. Has this been done before, if so, details please! What are the measurements of the engine bay on a 510 I'm assuming I'm going to have to have a custom driveshaft fab'd; what are the dimensions of the stock 510 driveshafts Any issues going from carbeurated to fuel injected Lastly, what about the tranny's Dimensions of the stock transmission Any insight is appreciated, I'll keep this thread updated if I go ahead with the project. Keep in mind this car is going to be a daily driver for me, but I'd like to be able to autox once in a while too

If you can help me identify them and/or give me an approximate value that would be great. Thanks.

S110 200sx help

Hi all! Good to see a Datsun sub forum was made I posted some pics of our LeMons team's 200sx race car in this thread for those that want to see what we'll be working on.Right now, I'm hoping we can get some sage advice on the car. We have the engine all apart and we have a few things planned, but I was hoping to get as much input as possible for getting the most HP out of our car. Also, because it's a race, and we need to be safe, we'll need a roll cage. I've looked around, and at Autopower they have a cage for a 84-89 200sx, but our model year ran 80-83 I believe. Did the body change enough for that cage to not work correctly Or should we just get a custom cage($$$ )

4th of July OSJC meet...just East of Atlanta, GA!!!

It's never too early to get this show on the road folks. We know that July 4th our meeting site will be the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, GA. This can/will be a family affair as we will be included amongst the Rockdale County Fabulous Fourth. There will be live bands, arts and crafts and stuff of that nature. Some military displays. There will also be another car club there, 2 Unique Corvettes. There will be children's activities as well. Gomer Pyle and Barney Fife are slated to be there, lolol. And of course, this will be followed by a very good fireworks show after dark. I've been to this show the last 4 years. And, best of all, it is a free event for us!!! No excuses for this one to be missed, lolol!!! I have also spoken with someone about getting a trophy as we plan to have a People's Choice Award for best car where anyone that passes through can submit a vote for their favorite. Spread the word. They gave us a lot of parking spaces, so let's fill them up.Gates open at 5pm. I will get with the coordinator to find out what time we can come in to set up and park. Later, QD.

They gave us a lot of parking spaces, so let's fill them up.
Gates open at 5pm. I will get with the coordinator to find out what time we can come in to set up and park.
Later, QD.

Anybody know if a rear diff out of an 85 300z would bolt directly up to a 71 510 (If I'm running less than 200hp at this point, is this even a good idea) Also, what would be a good price on one, $100, $200 I was offered one for $125.Also, would $200 be a good price on a 5 speed out of an 80 280zxThanks.
