It's got the cancer

So Sunday I decided to tackle why my intermittent wipers would not work. I took off the passenger side fender to see if I could find the ground. After following the harness to the front by the washer resevior I noticed how crappy it looked right above it. I easily pushed my hand through the bottom of the battery tray. So after tearing out the washer resevior and battery, I found the rust is only around the battery tray. the whole thing feels like it was about ready to cave through. What I'm getting ready to do is to cut out the rusted area and buy everything needed for a battery relocation. How much should a body shop charge to put in a patch panel though if I get it ready for them to weld in. I've also been contemplating on leaving the car parked until after the holidays and getting some of the other spots that are starting to poke up fixed too. Thanks for the help

Queer electrical problems

I haven't had a chance to take a good look at my '93 240sx convertible, or scour this forum enough to find a simple answer. But i'm having weird electrical problems. I thought a fuse was blown, and that's why the clock wasn't working. However, the clock started working two days ago for some weird reason, so I figure I'd post. The clock screen's been blank the whole time i've had the car, then suddenly the time showed up...as 1:97! 1:97! WTFSo, does anyone have any idea what could be going on1. Clock doesn't work2. Rear quarter windows don't work (no sound from motor, window lock is def not on)3. Horn doesn't work4. Light in ash tray doesn't work5. Cruise control buttons on steering wheel don't work. (Cruise button on dash does)6. Lights don't turn on in wheel well (dome light is missing)7. Buttons on A/C controller unit don't light up8. OEM CD player doesn't work and radio doesn't light up.9. top works perfectlyI don't know the history of the car. The carpet was changed recently for the sale (kind've weird)What could be going on!

Cruise control not working

I am looking for some help with my cruise control. I am new to 240's. I just bought a 1993 convertible. Everything works except the cruise. The power on the dash comes on, and that is it. I am very appreciative of any suggestions for a solution. I believe the previous owner took the steering wheel off at some point, since it was crooked when I bought it. I took it off and aligned it, but it did not affect my problem.Scott

As many of you may know, I had a topic on here about my vert getting a huge dent in it by a garbage can. Well, I wanted it taken off because of fear that the car shop people would look at it. Well, they didn't! It's going on December 7th for repairs and it got a huge dent right where it says Limited edition on the right side. The good news is they are able to salvage the limited edition logo!I still can't people stupid teens would want to vandalize other peoples property.

VOTE for the 2010 Convertible Calendar Monthly Features!

The time has come!I once again need everyone's participation to move things along with this year's calendar. It's time to select the 12 cars to be used as the monthly features. This will be done by popular vote via email ballots. Now, each of these pictures will be posted in alphabetical order based on the entrants screen name. Below the pictures will be the "ballot". Heres how the ballot is going to work: 1) Open your email and compose a new message. 2) Copy and paste the ballot into the body. 3) Type your Nico Screen name at the top4) Select your twelve(12) favorite entries by typing an X after the entrants screen name5) Send the ballot to: NicoVertCalendar@gmail.com6) All ballots must be submitted by December 1, at 5pm EST. Heres what your ballot should look like before you send it:If you have any questions, please post it in this thread. DO NOT submit your ballots in this thread! The only votes that will be counted, are the ones that are emailed to NicoVertCalendar@gmail.com by 12-01-09 at 11:59pm EST.PLEASE only submit one ballot. This is going to be done with the honor system here. There's no prize money, no free calendars, nothing special. This is for the enjoyment or our community. So I ask that people do not cheat. I appreciate your cooperation. Now, before we get started, remember that these pictures are not finalized yet. These still need to be edited, resized, and assembled by our photoshopping crew.
My Updated 240sx Convertible custom

This is the 240sx convertible that I saved from the junk yard in SC about four years ago the car have been fully redone with TVs in the sun visors I'm about 80% done with the custom work I will upload the final photos after I have the car re-painted one more time next year. And that auto transmission issue has been fix so this baby runs very well. I'm waiting to add the new trunk sub enclosure box which is being custom made for our 240sx convertibles.

found 2 cracks on my subframe

I was trying to figure out why my car kept making "banging" noises everytime i let go of the clutch. I thought maybe something was getting loose. Well I get it on a lift and see 2 cracks on the 2 lower bolts that is connected to the diff. My teacher welded it back up and it made somewhat of a difference So with that being said, does anyone need a z32 maf lol to help support the "I need a new subframe" foundation Ill sell it to you vert guys for $80 shipped. And while Im at it ill get some polyurethane bushings as well

Pink Vert build + Intro to the forum!

Yay! Finally the official first post for the convertible tear down and build up! This car I bought for my girlfriend and I to have a fun summer cruiser. There are plans, but nothing really solid. It has to conted a little with my hatch..but..I think I evenly distribute my time. Plus..She doesn't help me with the hatch, just the vert...so...good times. It has to go through the steps first I guess! Not much so far, suspension..that's it (eibachs on kybs in front and tokikos in back). Doesn't even run right now do to rod knock. Gross.pix nao!First.. we'll start with a picture from when we first got her:Hello wheel gap!Surprisingly rust free considering it was from the coast of Mass/Rhode IslandAs you probably coulda guessed, we got moar low before anything. Actually, maybe that shouldn't be the first guess, shouldn't have been first on the agenda. Swap should have been first, but...it was a boring day..and this could get done...so why not!Only picture current with stance is the recent one with Lip addition:Today started with taking out the seats:PS.. these seats were taken out with open ended/ box wrenches.. ratcheting decided to break... what a pain! This guy right here was ESPECIALLY hard to get out with an open end!VVVHere is the dog, lending a hand.. and a poop.Took out the carpet..it was gross. We are replacing it with a nice clean carpet that will be modified from a hatch to fit proper. Mint! Here is the grossness under the driver side.. solid, no rot, no rust really..just gross tarry goodnessPassenger side...little rusty. No rot though. In fact..this isn't really as bad as it looks. But it's the culprit. We're gonna clean it out all nice, and treat it for rust. Here is the cracked Dash and crappy wheel (to be replaced by oem silvia wheel!!! o_o!)And here is the replacement HUD dash! Clean as a whistle! Cleaned it off the other night and treated it all nice...blurry picture..but this is a quality dashAnd here is the instrument panel/cluster unit.. going to have a friend help with changing it to muy prettyness... the stock look is kinda grody and very outdated. We'd like to make sure it is clean and at least somewhat updated. And for now...this is just a teaser and idea for the interior. The pilot and navigator seats!! Corbeau A4 reclinable leather. Bad picture..but these seats are totally comfy. Picked them up on Saturday :-DAnd that is it for now! Progress posts will assuredly happen. I promise, guys! Until then, hold tight. This will be fun, and I can't wait to be driving it

New vert in LA

So, today I finally registered my 240 and am getting ready to start doing some work. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on good shocks to get for the car because it's driving like a boat. Also, what type of air intake or K&N filter is good to replace the box. (I forgot what I used on my last car)Also, as a quick poll, are there any people on this forum LA. just curious. Great forum! i'll try to catalog the li'l upgrades I do to my car. Are there any weight saving secrets on the car

I just picked up a '93 convertible tonight! It's white, but has a lot of grey primer spots were the prev. owner fixed dings. I'm thinking of getting the car painted and have 2 questions.1. What's the best paint color you've seen on a 240 convertible, or any 2402. Is there anything I should put on the car before getting it painted. (ie Lip, etc.)The top is brand new and black.

Am looking around trying to find out what I can do to my 93 240SX Coupe and on Ebay I keep seeing this engine Chip for an extra 50HP and 15 MPG. I realize those are fantasy figures, but can anyone tell me if they have chipped their car and gotten any gains at all I will be installing a cold air intake next summer (no good here when it is -20) and will free up the exhaust too. At the moment I am looking for better mileage rather than HP because when I want power I will be going with a turbo later.

driver side top transmission bolt.. need it out... here's why it's not as simple as oh disconnect everything and pull the tranny out too... I made an engine lift. I was on a budget and got tired of staring at the useless blown motor in my 240 and the fresh s14 ready to drop in.. The tool I used wire... big a s s tree... duct tape to protect the tree... 3/16 teflon coated cable (rated for 400 pounds).. and a pulley from ace hardware (rated for 400 pounds.. here is my problem seeing as how motor alone weighs 317 or 371 or whatev)... how can I get that bolt out .. I'm a huge a** goon with big arms and the firewall is in my way of getting the wrench on it.. I can line up motor and tranny to loosen some but doesn't work since I can't get the wrench all the way on flush... I know this seems retarded so insult me if you wish only if you offer help.. thanks guys

Door handle swap

Sup nico,Ive been a bit busy gathering parts for my vert build and decided to throw my coupe doors on, but I have a problem. I dident get a key with the doors and the guy I bought them from cant find it. So I guess my option is to swap the key cylinder or whole door handle from my vert doors over to the coupe doors. Has anyone done this how exactly do you do it pics would help alot.Sorry for the crappy thread but I am extremely tired today and never have much time with working full time and going to school...

new vert owner

Sup everyone, just picked up a new vert. I'm new to verts, but not to 240's. I've owned my S14 for almost 10 years, but always wanted a vert as a daily. 116K on the clock as of right now. Already registered the car in the registry, the previous owner was already on the list so I just updated it.Here's a pic of the S14 as well.

UPDATE 110Octane's Vader Vert back in progress

Well boys, it sure has been a long year of financial ups and downs. I also moved to San Diego and became self employed. I lurk the vert forum almost daily and I finally found the passion and a few bucks to get back at the vert.I ordered a Haltech 350Z ecu and am currently in the midst of building a "milspec" engine harness for the car. I am hoping by doing this I can eliminate a lot of unnecessary wiring and also be able to route all the wires where I want them. I also removed all of the chassis wiring from the engine bay by cutting all 62 wires under the core support and running them back into the car and resoldered/reloomed them under the dash. Boy did this make a huge difference in cosmetics! I also ran the power wires and lighting wires in shrink tube up high along the fender rails to keep them out of the way of those pesky tires. Not a huge update but wanted to contribute to the site. I will update as I route the vacuum lines for the ITB,s as well as the engine harness wiring. If this interests anyone let me know and I will go into further depth should there be interest.New power wires and lights under fender - Still haven't decided where the blue stereo wire and inline fuse will mountBEFORE:AFTER - MUCHO cleaner! Don't you agree

Well... I'm back. I used to post under the name Attwater, but it has been awhile so I changed my name. A few years ago I had put some posts up about rewiring the interior lights (and hvac) with LEDs. I had also posted some pics of my interior when I had it done. Anyhow, I've been focused on other things for awhile but I've found the time to get back to working on my car.The vert came out of the bodyshop today. I'd been sitting on a body kit for a long time and decided to go ahead and get it finished. This is a 1993. It has come a long way in the years that I've owned it. I'll post some pics. I didn't have optimal lighting conditions for the pics today, but I think they came out ok. I'd be happy to get some feedback. I'll be around here more frequently now, so I look forward to contributing.

Work has been keeping me busy, but I plan on cleaning up the engine bay and then prepping/painting it before the swap goes in. After that its on to new gaskets and other goodies Kinda makes you feel like you're getting somewhere---and it has only JUST begun. *stupid tiny pictures..*

exhaust opinions

I am in need of some exhaust work. The connection coming out of my front muffler/resonator is rotting off. In my experiance, there is no sense in trying to just replace it, as you will most likely screw up other parts of the old exhaust trying to fix it. I am thinking I just need to go with entire cat back replacement.I do not want the loud, ricey exhaust, OEM would be perfectly fine, I want quiet! What do you guys think of this system for the money $125.00 and $38.00 shipping.http://www.exhaustwarehouse.co...4.173Anybody know of any better deals

Bad Cat

Over the past month I have noticed a drastic drop in my gas mileage. I have been getting 28 to 30 mpg for a long time. All of a sudden over the last 4 tank fulls I am getting more in the 25 mpg range. I have replaced plugs cap and rotor and it did not help at all. I seem to be noticing much more the rotten egg smell of cat converters lately, and after car has been run about 10 miles it feels like the motor is almost slightly fighting itself at a steady cruise speed of 45 to 55 mph, almost like a slight miss. I am wondering if maybe my cat is clogged, or getting clogged and as it heats up is maybe restricting flowWhat are the signs of a cat going bad, and what can I expect to pay to replace it. I am not interested in some high performance, high dollar type cat, just something that is going to allow me to pass the good old Pa. emissions test.

I have a 93 in great shape convertible, garage kept and original top.however, it blows up some going down the road. It is not super high but it does have a rounded shape. Is there a way to fix it or do I just need to replace and how do I find someone reputable to do itI would like to fix it as it in great shape but I know it will start to rip if I don't do something.

Need help with convertable top!

I just finish my 5 speed swap on my convertable and I can't figure out my top. It starts and drive and the reverse lights work. My inhibitor switch wires are not double colors like brown/yellow. All the wires on my inhibitor switch is solid colors. I tried splicing the brown, yellow, blue wires into my reverse green wires but nothing works. The only wire I didn't try to splice to it is the red wire coming from my inhibitor switch. I don't want to try it yet because I don't know what it is. Can someone help me with my top please.

Need advice - damaged '93 Convert

Hello everyone.I've spent the morning reading through the forum searching for advice which has answered many of my questions, but I have a few more for people who own and maintain these cars daily. My wife found a wrecked red '93 LE convert for sale in the neighborhood yesterday while out and about and commented that she thought it may be an interesting project. We're huge car enthusiasts, but primarily focus on BMWs or late 60s American cars. While we've owned a few Nissans through the years, I know very little about 240SXs beyond thinking they were kinda cool back in the day. This specimen is a red/black LE with 88k miles. It took a hard hit in the right front about 6 months ago and looks like its had some repair work done to the left rear quarter as well at some point. The interior is a little rough - looks like it will need new dash cover, door panels, seat covers (leather is dry), steering wheel (sun dried) and carpet. The top is relatively new. The front end will need a hood, right front fender, front bumper cover, right front headlight assembly and likely all the attendant bits underneath. Are interior trim pieces still available Are body parts likely still available And what is something like that worth I realize there is no way of telling outright, but I imagine repair work to the front is a minimum of 4-6k which likely is more than the car is worth. It runs well and actually looks great. Paint is shiny and compared to others I've seen online, panel fit is good and overall condition is not bad considering its age and use. Its an ambiguous set of questions, but if someone responded - "interiors aren't available anymore and its a 3500.00 car when done", then its pretty clear to avoid. If it makes sense to offer the owner 500.00 and take it as a long term project, then maybe I'll consider it. I know it will be gutless and never really appreciate, but it is a good looking car that might make a decent car for the kids or economical run around on weekends car for the fam. It is too nice to just see delivered to a college as a project or sent to a wrecking yard to be picked apart. Thanks for your thoughts. Apologies for the length of the post.

It was the crappiest feelings ever. Not only was I stuck in the middle of an intersection at 3:30 and I was really hungryUgh well time for a new clutch, well that is the clutch right I can shift into any gear without the clutch

Caspers_240 [re]-Build, KA-t VERT

Whats up guys I've never done a "build thread" so after several years of tearing down and rebuilding... I guess its time.Things that have to be done:1. Reassemble the engine. I was going to go w/ all forged internals but since I've taken the car back apart, I've decided to go a different route so the KAt will be temporary; but still solid.2. Fix the transmission. The front shaft cover() broke and made a hell of a ringing sound at high RPM, So I have to replace that and while I'm at it, I'll replace the front bearing.3. Paint. My cousin who owns Scott's Custom Paint in wayx has decided to "hook a brotha up" with one of his fire-a** flame jobs; so my car will FINALLY look good as well as be fun as hell to drive.4. Install z32 rear uprights.5. Tune, beat-on, and repeat. What to expect from this build thread:Just a regular guy with a job and a family that wants the most out of car ("bang vs. $$") and loves to drive the s*** out of it... Pics will all be taken with my phone so... ya know...My youngest son digging the head-roomCouple pics of it's first drift event in cordeleStuff that had to go...I wish its was as easy as it looked to remove all that crap! Shaved probably ~175lbs, top and all :thumb: Just got the car back from Connor Motor Sports in wayx. He did a great job on the cage and a really fair price. Thats all for now... Thanks. :

So what the heck has QV been doing (Update on the Orange Vert)

Been busy w/ school, work, life, etc just like everyone else. I've still been maintaining the vert, in fact, it's going to have some major surgery over the next few months to prep for the 2010 season of autox. In the mean time, I've been enjoying life - picked up a new daily driver over summer & took it to autox this past weekend. Suddenly the 240sx convertible doesn't feel so luxurious anymore, lol. Some pics of the new car @ autox:First run (traction control on & top up)Getting ready in pre-grid"What is up w/ his helmet"And some in car vids:Saturday Practice in SL:1st run of day (78.xxx): YouTube - SL500 AutoX Practice - AAA Speedway - 2009-09-26 - run 01By 10th run (74.910): YouTube - SL500 AutoX Practice 2009 09 26 run 10Sunday Championship in 240sx (course run backwards w/ some small modifications - estimated to be about 1.5-2 seconds faster than Saturday's course):Run #2 (fastest run): YouTube - 240sx AutoX Championship - AAA Speedway - 2009 09 27Lastly, slo mo video of the 240 for fun: QV slo mo 240sx on VimeoIt behaved just as I expected: like a boat & has a very hard time with quick transitions while trying to apply power. That being said, it was still very fun to drive & can be made into an even more fun & competitive vehicle with stickier tires, new shocks, and some other minor mods. There is definitely a place for it on the road racing side of things - this car pulls very hard & nice. The first run, I decided to run w/ traction control on & the top up just to get a feel for how the car behaves. The traction control cut off way too much power. All subsequent runs were top down & traction control off, of course. Once it was off, car control was much better & the car would kick out the rear w/ enough power applied coming out of corners (reminded me of the drifting video another user posted on here - definitely has potential for that) but it also pushes a lot coming into turns since there is so much weight & momentum.

Dash and Button bulb replacement

So i just realized I am supposed to have the buttons on my dash light up ( lights, cruise, etc) and I saw a write up for replacing with bulbs from Radio Shack that you have to rewire . What i am curious about though, is there a direct bulb replacement that will just plug in instead of having to rewire them. Also do the buttons take size 74 lights Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Rear 1/4 window switch question.

So I had initially planned on ordering a new rear window switch anyways for my vert seeing as mine is missing the top covers to it and looks like garbage. However, driving home from work last night it was good weather to drop the top, so I pushed the button, and only my passenger rear 1/4 window went down. I had already planned on ordering the switch but wanted a 2nd (and more) opinion on whether or not the switch could be the reason the drivers side rear window won't go down, or if you guys think it's the motor itself I am going to order a new switch if I can find one. Does anyone happen to know the part number and if I can still order it from courtesy nissan I know about a year ago they were ~30$, and 50$ from my local dealership. Thanks.

Yet again another project =)

I picked up this 92' Vert last month. I was planning on just selling it but i was out in the shop one night and i just thought to myself its way too clean to sell and would make a great DD/Project. And i was planning on building the Coupe i have but the vert is just so much cooler. So this week i took off work from Thursday-Saturday to get a good start on the vert and hopefully have it running/driving by Saturday Night. I will be pulling the ka24de out of the coupe and putting it in the vert. Even though i just got done putting the motor in the coupe last month. The motor is out of a 96' S14. But when i pull the motor i will be removing the head and putting a S13 head on(bad valve stem seals on the current one ). So it will be a S14 block and intake manifold and S13 head. I also will be putting brand new timing chain guides on. I replaced the clutch with a OE when i did the swap last month, along with TOB, pilot bearing, flywheel. Yesterday i removed the windshield and will be getting a new one installed this coming monday. Ive already did my door conversion which turned out nicely and ive already got my holes drilled in my firewall for the clutch master cyl and ive done the wiring for the 5 spd conv. After the car is able to hit the street it will be recieving a new paint job(black again, i have a thing with black cars ) but that will be in 2 weeks. The suspension i am using for now(until i order my coils) is just some good ol' skunk 2 lowering springs. And i will be using my sportmax 002s til i order my works. And HOPEFULLY by Dec. she will be boosted! Last week i picked up my exhaust in STL. Its a 3" catback with no resonators and the outlet is 3.5" and has a flare to it.(Pretty much a buddy club but i think its better). The brand is Yamato Garage and the guy makes them in Wentzville, MO. I am the first to buy one and run it on a S13. So if you guys want one let me know and i will give you his email.Oh yeah forgot to mention the top is in great shape and works perfect!Anyways enough of me jabbering, on to the pics. Let me know what you guys think!

Just put a 5 speed in my vert!

I picked up a 93 S13 5 speed that ran and drove with no title for $350 and planned on using all the parts for a 5 speed swap in my vert since Ill know al the parts work. I found a guy with a shop about an hour from me that would take whats left of the donor car in trade for use of his shop and doing the harder parts for the swap. Its all in and since I got no help from the forum, I just got it all fixed today shy of having to bench bleed the slave cylinder again when I get a day off. The car feels great! The donor car also had a flowmaster on it so I used the cat bacl from that along with a high flow dynomax 3" cat I got earier. Ill post pics soon!

hey guys its ben a min since ive talked on here i joind the army and ben gone for a year. first thing geting back home i made a bee line for my car to find that my wife overheated it three times and it wont start and has no compresion. so i disided to rebuild it with new rod bearings piston ring gasket set new header ngk plugs 8.5 wires electric fan kit and optima batery. after having the head milled the guy tald me that the valves wher a lil weak but it would be fine but when i put the head on he shaved it so much that i had to cut the gasket flush with the head to get the timing cover on but got it all together and it ran. now after an 800 mile road trip back to base it would randomly over heat and it just blew the head. now whear i live its realy hard to fined 240 parts so can i install a ka head out of an altima and everything hook up cuz i know ther a lil dif.
