Fuel pressure too high when engine is running

I have an adjustable FPR on my RB20. I set the fuel pressure when the engine is not running to 37psi. Yet when I crank up the engine, the fuel pressure jumps up to 65 psi and sometimes even higher. With the vacuum line attached the fuel pressure rises with throttle as expected. With it disconnected, the fuel pressure remains steady during throttle. I just got my alternator working and it charges at 15v when the engine is running...is that too high and does it affect fuel pump performanceIs there supposed to be such a drastic difference in fuel pressure when the engine is running and not running or is this normal I don't recall this drastic difference when the engine was in my 240sx. --TJ

When i tried to start the carafter double checking everythingThe Engine turned over but had no Sparkthe Coil if measured with a multimeter from the end which the loom plugs into coil with + and - has0.15 - 0.17 volts this does not change if i am turning the engine or notas far as i understand this should be 12 voltsi also did the Spark test on a spare sparkplug still no spark after turning engine overPlease note however everything worked fine before the engine swap. Now today when we tried to start it up again we noticed the fuel pump was not starting up upon turning on the ignitionwhy would this be if everything plugged back in i had my dad check the fuses found a 20a and 15 a blown we replaced those but still the fuel pump wont start up and no spark ive heard of relays if someone would be kind enough to explain where those are pleasethe pump is getting 11 volts 7 volts and 0.01 onto the two grounds when you crank it over it goes up to 0.03 PLEASE HELP!! i really want this thing going!

RB25 questions/concerns

Hey to the RB community here at Nico, always look forward to browsing through this forums pages to see the s-chassis engine bays looking sexier with an RB under the hood. Hopefully I will be able to post my new car in here, assuming I can find the RB that doesn't completely kill the bank. I have been on the lookout for an RB engine since I found the shell that will hopefully be converted into my new daily/fun weekend car. I really like the ease of the RB20 swap, as far as much easier and less consuming for money, but have always been attracted to the RB25, it's just always been a hope to end up with one under the hood, and seeing as how my new shell needs a new engine, might as well take the plunge now.I have located a RB25 series 2 long block online which seems to be in better condition than most of the engines I have found under a grand, and at the 500 dollar price tag, I really don't want to let it go because that cuts down costs of the swap substantially. The cons: The engine needs a rebuild, this I was figuring would be slightly necessary on any engine I located for the price, and since I won't need it in the car for a while, it's good timing to take care of any problems it may have. The engine has been tested and when it was pulled cylinder 6's compression was off, running at 30 psi. Turbo has a small amount of shaft play at the motor pull, but was apparently working fine at the boost levels.I am trying to research everything I can on the RB25 as of lately, and even more of late looking into the series 2 engine trying to become as familiar as I can with known issues so that I could take care of any problems, and this will be my first complete rebuild and motor swap, so I am trying to be as prepared as possible. I am curious as to what everyone thinks as far as the time/money that I will have to put into the engine as of right now to have the long block rebuilt and ready to be prepped for installation. I don't want to plan for one schedule, to only find out that both funds and time become slimmer.I already know of the need for the basic installation from reading the swap faq and various posts, but would like to hear a bit more from you guys who have done the swap.Feel free to flame or tell me to search, I am currently trying to learn as much as I can, and would just like to know about this engine in particular as soon as possible to know what to look for, check for, ask about, be concerned with to deem it worth getting or not.Sorry for the wall of text.

Track application RB20 vs RB25

Hello gang, I need some friendly advice on what to do in this situation.I have an S13 coupe race car I'm building (streetable track car). Car will be primarily serving as a track car, so that takes priority. I have an RB25 motor/trans lined up. I have a friend with an RB20 trans/mounting setup for sale.End goal, I do not see this car crossing 350whp. In the short term, I plan to leave the RB25 stock for this year.I know the RB20 trans is lighter, but isn't as strong. So here's how I see it, correct me if I'm wrong.RB20 Pro's:lighteruse stock driveshaftRB20 Cons:uses cable drive speed sensorwon't hold as much powerRB25 Pros:StrongerSpeed sensor plugs inRB25 Cons:HeavierHave to use custom driveshaftMy RB25 setup has the trans coming with it, however a friend of mine has an RB20 trans, and mckinney mounts (which I need to buy anyways, so just trying to buy the right set)I was pondering just buying the RB20 trans, using a stock driveshaft, and just running that until it dies. Just looking for some feedback. We want to save whatever weight we can, but not at the expense of it dying in 3 weeks

Aftermarket rb20 Exhaust manifold

Hi guys/gals, new to the forum and wanted to say hi first of all. A little background info for ya before I ask some questions. Purchased my 92 skyline gtst type M about 6 months ago. Since then I have had a full on addiction for working and playing around with my summer sports car. So far the only thing I have not been able to do myself or find a way is wheel alignment/ mounting tires. Im builting up my Rb20 for now to be a summer cruizer/weekend drifter here and there. I currently have my exhuast side all tore apart, unfortunalty one of my exhuast bolts snapped off, so I must fix that first. Basicly Im wondering where to look for a good quality aftermarket Rb20 "top mount" manifold that are not know to break after a couple years. I have checked out all the ebay ones and nothing really hits the spot. Im looking on puting a t3 garret 2876 externally wastegated turbo. I saw the old post for 6/boost group buy and noticed it was closed:(. You guys have any ideas on where I can look. Price range - $500-800 Canadian I mean I know shipping will be extra but I really dont wanna spend $1500 on an Rb20 with just metal head gasket,Arp head studs and tomei proncams.Let me know what you think I value your input.

Ignition System Worn Out

Hey guys when I first got my engine, it had Denso Iridiums gapped at .043. I got the car all running right, but it still had a horrible miss.So me and my friends took the plugs out, regapped them to .030 and the car ran great and smooth. This lasted about 4 months and then the car started missing again at the top of the gears. So I went out and bought some NGK BCPR7ES's and gapped them at the stock .043 thinking the old plugs were bad.It still had the miss at the top of the gears, except this time it was horrible. So I regapped them to the .030 that had worked, and it still missed.Still had the missWent back to the house, gapped them at a tiny .025, and the car runs like a top now, just burns a good amount of fuel when in boost.Does it sound like my coils or ignitor are going out on meThanks!

RB25 TO RB26 LONGBLOCK CAS

I'm tossing around the idea of getting an RB26 block and head and swapping it into my current setup. I want to be able to use my nistune ecu, intake manifold, injectors, mafs, and wiring harness, etc....... so i have a few questionsI believe Raw brokerage sells an adapter plate for mounting ITB's on a 25 so I guess I could mount my 25 manifold on the 26 head (how much does this cost). This would take care of the manifold, injectors and most of my wiring concern. Ill use my Z32 mafs instead of the 26 ones, maybe even a dummy z32 mafs for big horsepower options if I decide to go twins... movin onDoes the CAS on the 25 and 26 interchange...... if not do they read the same signal pretty much so I can wire a new plug into my harness and run a rb26 cas on my nistune ecu Am I missing any obvious issues which I may run into while doing this swap which I have overlooked like a douch-er

No Power to ECU RB25

I plugged up my RB25 in my S14 (95) last night, but could not get power to the ECU.I purchased the swap out of a running S14 so the harness was already completed. I pulled my SR out and dropped the RB in. Im using the 240 lower harness. There is a plug on the top of the engine that is the exact shape and fit as the TPS that is not plugged in, but I cannot see that stopping ECU power. Plugs in the kick panel and grounds are all fit and set. Im pretty stumped.Any help would be massive. Thanks.

rb25 into the hardbody, have have found a way

ok iv been searching but there isnt alot of info on how to put a rb25 into a hardbody. so after doing some research i think i have found an almost bolt in friendly way. what you you guys think possible: Is there engine bay room Do i need fire wall modification the ka24e in the truck and the ka24e and ka24de use the same engine brackets. so by using a 240sx rb swap kit designed to mount to stock subframe the motor should bolt in... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...aed1aor are those mounts to bolt to the frame and u use the stock rb25 engine bracketsalso the hardbody came with the vg30e, which uses the same tranny(different bellhousing) as the rb25, so if i buy the vg tranny crossmember it would be close to being bolt in, or very little modifications. http://www.courtesyparts.com/h....html a diagram of the crossmember.the tranny crossmember is part #11340m the tranny mount is part number #11320same as the 300zx tranny mount part number http://www.courtesyparts.com/3....htmlanother question, is the rear of the 300zx tranny and the rb tranny have the same mounting pointsand what is the distance between the mounting points between the engine brackets and tranny mount for the vg/tranny combo and the ka/tranny combo. ill go take measurements tomorrow and post them up.let me know what you think

Timing belt shredded....But Rb survived......WTF

Well the good news is my rb survived.... And nobody is sure how I just got done doing a pull for video and clutched to shut down it died... So I started it back up and I heard some metal knocking and shut it down. I thought I toasted my clutch. Got out checked it out and nothing. So I was 50yds from my shop so I turned around in the road it died. I turned it over and I knew what had broke... pushed it back and tore it apart. power int belt had a 1/4in left. It got caught in my oil pump sleeve and broke my timing mark off. So Hans (HX3_nismo)let me borrow his to see if it was effed and it started right up I lucked out. A bolt fell out of the back plate behind the timing cover. I didnt mess with them so I didnt check them POWER INTERPRISE FOR LIFE

Sup guys so i got my car back to the dyno with my new set up and here is a comparison between my old (t72) and my new (hx35) set up. Blue line is HX35Red line is T72Notice my boost line on my hx35 thats because my limiter on my boost controller was too low and i forgot to change it. but look at the difference it makes, full boost by around 3800rpm my torque line is a whole lot better too. By the way this is a very very conservative tune.I cant wait to get water/meth injection, this cali 91 oct is killing my power.

Help CLutch wont work!!!

Motor- RB25detTrans- rb20detGoing from Original Clutch, PP and Flywheel to ACT HD pp and 6 puck clutch.OK so after 2 days, 2 slaves, 2 masters, a new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel- my clutch does not work. The last thing I have to do is put in my spare trans but I wanted to post up before I did so. Heres the deal. This weekend I replaced my clutch, due to the fact that my car because increasingly harder to get in gear when the clutch was depressed. I removed the slave cylinder and replaced it thinking that was probably the culprit, fully bleeding the system and it was not. Now the clutch was pretty much non existant. When the car was on and in neutral, depressing the clutch pedal did not allow the car to go into gear AT ALL. not even reverse. So I figured ok---- its all original stuff-- its probably screwed up so lets order a new clutch. I put everything in-- and still the same problem. We even adjusted the rod on the clutch pedal for more throw. Here are the kickers-New Clutch, PP FlywheelNew Master CylinderNew Slave CulinderWhen you push the clutch, the slave pushed the fork the appropriate distance. The fork/Throwout bearing definately work they were tested before gpogm pm the car.Now--- Even though we 100% checked everything I thought MAYBE we put the clutch disk on backwards.... Doubtful-- but at this point my only hope.. So I drop the trans again last night. (The 2nd time only took an hour compared to the 4 it took originally... +1 for experience) only to find out thats not the case...so back to square 1So where I sit now-- the original trans is on the ground I have a spare trans. The clutch and PP are off. and I am waiting for someone with a tad more experience to mention something I may have missed so that I dont go through all the effort of getting the car back together to have the same issue again... Can anyone help!!Thanks in advance-Eric

Clutch question: Rb20/25 vs RB26

Ok, question for those who might know:I need to replace the clutch in my R32.Looking up clutches, the ones for the RB26 are all twice as expensive as the ones for the 20/25.But I know for a fact that people can take a 26 and put the 20/25 transmission on it without changing the clutch...So what the hell is differentWhy won't a 20/25 clutch fit onto the 26 If the transmissions are interchangeable (the 26 tranny is what was used with a 20 motor for the R32 GT-4 model), then what's different on the flywheel/crank that they'd not be the same clutch

I am swapping this rb20 into a d21 and I have forgotten how it was wired in my 240. Can someone please spell it out for me Or just tell me what "signal" each wire needs, like "12v switched" etc It cranks and runs and drives, but when I pull the POS+ battery post off it dies (and I have to jump it off cuz it doesn't charge) :*(I am soooo close!! will post pics later.I will list all of the wires below, please tell me whatever you know about any of them. I want to confirm the little I think I know.Grey plug on alternator has:Big solid white wiresmall white/red wireThere is also the big black and smaller black wires. Please confirm which is ground and which is POS+ and the POS+ ties into the main POS+ battery terminal, rightThanks,--TJ

I made some progress with my build today and figured I should finally get my thread started. First off, my names Max and I have an unhealthy obsession with 240s. I had a black chuki in high school that I swapped an sr20 into, the car that essentially gave me the 240 feva. Last Winter I happened upon a great deal on a kouki and figured it was time to switch things up. mmmmm kouki. Anyway, I was completely set on a rb25 for the heart of the project until fate gracefully dropped a rb26 into my hands. Short story was: guy had R33 rb26 in s13, had all accessories for swap, most of which work for the s14, great price, sold, in my garage, I cried a little Here are the specs for my build so far.Specs:R33 Rb26dettRB25 TransmissionStock Bottom end1.5mm oil restrictorN1 oil pumpN1 water pumpoem HGarp headstudsWelded oil panRebuilt head (mostly oem)HKS gt2530sTomei dumpsand moreI got the oil pan, water pump, and oil pump done a few weeks ago. Today I finally got the head on and threw the turbos on. Although I had done an engine swap with the s13 I had never until this point messed with taking an engine apart. Its a love hate relationship with a lot more loving to come when the swap is done. Here are some pics I took of it tonight. Enjoy. With progress I will post more pics.

Anyone running a garrett t3/t04 50 trim - .63 ar on a RB25

I got a really good deal on new t3/t4 50 trim .63 a/r so I picked it up. I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this turbo on a RB25. I actually had this same turbo in my KA24det back in 2004 and it was an awesome turbo so I was thinking about slapping it on the RB-Z and seeing what its made of. My plans originally were to get a gt30r which I know would kick a** but I'm open to using the 50 trim if its not gonna suck on the RB since I got it for cheap. The car is quick as it running a stock turbo at 1 bar, my goals are realistically 350whp daily - 400whp max for the occasional exotic car battle. In such a light chassis it should make for a fun car at the button and willow springs, my two local tracks which most of my enthusiastic driving is done. Currently the car is running a z32 mafs, nistune, 525cc injectors... all the supporting mods are there. Anyone running one of these turbos that can tell me how much power they made, spool times, anything

Alright, before you say anything yes I've searched and not for 10 min. For 2hrs trying to figure out what this is for. I had my lower harness on my S14 converted for my RB25DET swap. The lower harness was originally on my S13 SR20. Either way here are the pics....

RB20 turbo help

Hey all, i'd first like to say i have searched this problem and can't find any answers. My turbo seems to be making a loud and continuing whining noise when i get on it. It first sounded like my tires were screeching, but after it doing it a few times it sounds like its coming from the turbo. It just started doing this yesterday. After parking it in my garage i revved it up and the noise came around 6k rpm and also i could see smoke coming from my exhaust in my mirror. So i was wondering what may be causing this or what i need to do to fix it Is my turbo shot etc etc.Any help would be appreciated.its a rb20 stock turbo in a 90 240sx.Nick

RB20/s13 low oil pressure..

So I get my gauges (def link II) all set up an installed, its an 89 240 w/rb20 as stated in the title.. and my oil pressure at idle is sitting at maybe 5-10 and with some gas gets up to around 40-45 .. I did some reading around, and found that i should be around 25-75 as a normal reading. I'm running 10w40.. obviously i checked the oil, reading just fine. I havent been able to identify an oil leak of any sort.. i'm not exactly sure whats going on... any help would be greatly appreciated... I find ALOT of my answers here, so I'm sure someone out there knows :D thanks again.

i just bought my s14 thats running an rb25 and i'm thinking of dropping from the current GT35 with .82 a/r to a GT30 with either a .82 a/r or .63 a/r. i'm looking for a more usable powerband and more streetability. could i just go for a .63 a/r on the GT35 i'm really looking for spool but i'd like to keep it over 400whp. i've heard the the GT35 with the .63 a/r can work but can be prone to surge(right) and is harder to tune for some reason.()as far as i've reasearched the gt30 just flows about 10-15 lbs/min less and avoids surge. the gt35 has more flow and can be prone to surge with the smaller a/r's. the spool really depends on the turbine a/r but i wasn't sure if the two turbos spool differently with the same a/r.()i know lots of questions in there but i guess i want to know which turbo spools earlier with the same a/rany advice for a RB newbiethanks.

yes, the time has come to get down to business on massaging the internals on my wonderful RB25 NEO. after nearly three years of giving it hell on the comepletly stock internals, the rod bolts have finally threw int he flag..she still runs, but makes a wee bit of noise at certain rpms.so, i have finally decided to build a bolistic missile and here is my idea:http://www.nengun.com/tomei/st...6-28lyes thats right a mac-daddy stroker kit from TOMEIlet me also compliment that stroker kit with a set of TOMEI type B pon camsalong with TOMEI springsand while im at it im going to get the lovefab manifold to compliment the new HKS T04Z turbofound some nice SARD 1000CC top feed injectors tooeverything else on the outside of the engine has already been addressedi will also be adding a Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump complete with fuel pump controller along with a custom built surge tank that ive been sitting on for some time now.i have no idea what my power goals are but im fairly certain it will be north of 700whp with little trouble which ill be more than happy with..hehefeel free to comment on what you guys think

weird rb20 problem...can't figure it out

so ive been chaseing this problem for the last month or two searching my *** off on every forum out there. The problem is i am only running on two cylinders. from the radiator to the firewall it fire like this #1fire #2no fire #3fire #4 no fire #5 no fire #6 no fire. i am getting spark for sure and all my injectors are clicking. i have done a compression check and all cylinders came between 140-150. none over or below that. no boost leaks, no codes. nothing. i had a fried ecu so i bought one off ebay and thats what i use now. but on my old freid ecu all the little electrobe things that fire the coils are fried but the first one and the last one. when i plug in the ecu it runs those two cylinders and thats it. the new one has no burnt spots or anything like that. if i pull out my dipstick and put it directly under my nose i think it smells very faintly of gas but its extremely hard to smell. still feels like oil and doesnt evaporate at all and looks nice and golden like it should no discoloration at all. if anyone has any ideas please help me because i really am starting to hate this car and almost want to sell it.

Come help me pick apart my problem

Ok here is the problem, I can't seem to get my car to idle unless I pull the big vacuum line off that goes to the break booster. If I leave it on and try to start the car it just won't turn over. The air fuel ratio while it's cranking with no vacuum leak is like 10ish, with it off it's around 14ish and when it fires up it's at 16ish. So when I fire it up with the vacuum leak that car will ilde high but it will stay running until I seal up the leak then the airfuel ratio shoots to the 10's and the car stalls out. I tried to unplug the maf to get it to idle and it just won't do it. Checked the ecu for codes but none all is good. I thought maybe my injectors were dirty and they were a little from the report I got back after I had them cleaned and balanced. I'm running 824cc Sard injectors with a Nistune Ecu and Denso 280lph fuel pump. I also reprogrammed my nistune and tried it another Rb20 and that car fired up like normal. I'm at a very big loss because I have never seen this before.

Gahhh issue with block surface

I was cleaning the block surface today to get it ready for the metal headgasket I got and found this curve dent that looks like a hammer hit it. There is already a 1.5mm oil restrictor in it which makes me think the guy before may have struck the block with a hammer while driving it in. I'll post a pic up now. I'm guessing I can't use a metal headgasket now since it probably wont seal. Let me know what you guys think. Heres the pic. I can easily feel it with my finger nail. f*** I feel like killing a small animal!!Modified by ralphsdiorama at 6:04 PM 11/4/2009Modified by ralphsdiorama at 6:04 PM 11/4/2009

JDM transmission rebuild kit

Does anyone knowanything about RB20det transmission rebuild kits such as, does nissan Japan still make them Who would I have to contact to get one (friend will deal with shipping etc.) Parts #, costI've read all the threads about rebuilding the transmission with the KA's, buying another RB20 transmission from an importer (most likely will be hit or miss), and some other ideas/options, but I was just trying to figure out the viability of just buying a JDM rebuild kit thru a frind in Japan, and having them ship it to me, and if rebuild kits even exists anymore for these transmissions. If anyone has any info, please let me know
