VG30E swapout for VG30DETT need swapwizards advice

ok i'm kinda new to a forum setting so here goes...,i own a 95 nissan pathfinder XE-V6 (VG30E engine) i am in the process of buying a 95 nissan SE-V6 kingcab pickup and had an interesting idea...., i would like to drop a VG30DETT in place of the VG30E that rests there now. I do already understand i need to aquire the FSM (field service manual) for both vehicles so i could repin the ECU harness in the pickup to correctly operate the VG30DETT or so i could use the ECU from the z32 donor vehicle. The only other question or problem i am having is will the transmission bolt up to the transfer case( i.e. the 2wd models of the pathfinder and pickup use an extension housing to take up the "slack" of the driveline since there is no transfercase) i will check back on this is a couple of days (4 atmost) keep in mind i do have moderate amount of mechanical knowledge( automatics are still a mystery to me) thanks for all your responses.

how much boost can a stock VG33E bottom end & HG hold

Planning to boost the stock vg33e but it doesn't seem like anyone sells a MLS gasket or forged pistons for this engine. Maybe a custom one I have ARP head studs but running stock gaskets make me worry. Anyone know what safe boost limits the stock bottom end & gasket can handle If it matters, the engine is from a 02 frontier.

Has any1 on here ever actually put the newer style lower IM with new style injectors on the old style motor The reason I ask is the hole the fuel sprays through is not the same size so with the new im there is a little ledge on each side once mounted to the head that looks like it may block or slow fuel. I was wondering if any1 knew if it would cause a problem or not.

underdriver crank pulley works on Nisson 300zx why not try on 1995 Infinity j30

I recently change my water pump on my infiniti 1995 j30.Noticed that my crank pulley was a little bent up.So i decided to try a new underdrive crank pulley alot smaller in diameter.Needed certain sized belts that a nissan specialist recommended.Installed and put everything back together. When I start the car.It starts great,Idles fine for about 15 seconds then stalls like it ran out of gas.My question is,Do I need to adjust the crank sensor and check fuel pressureDo you think this will help.Modified by casanova7969 at 9:03 PM 10/14/2009

Hi all. I have a 1993 Maxima and after I had changed the head (closest to the firewall) and aligned all the sprockets for the timing at TDC, the car will not fire up. I changed the dirtributor location to the number one terminal with cylinder #1 at TDC (per Haynes Manual) and still nothing. Everything is connected correctly, vaccuumm hoses, fuel and electrical hoses. I know there is a spark and fuel delivery. Please help!!!

Question about 350Z Wheels

[IMG][/IMG] These are 350Z rims. I don't know much about them, and would like to be enlightened by one of you wise ones. The little that I know is that you can fit them on Z31's. Do they need spacers And what size tire would be the widest one without any fender-bending The size in the back is 18X8, offset is 30. I am actually considering either keeping them, or offering them to this wonderful community of your. If it's not too much to ask (and I know I ask for a lot) I would like to know the current market price for them. And don't tell me they're worth $20 bucks a piece, because I may believe you. I would offer them here first, even before Z31.com. They have a funky sign up process. I am still waiting to be able to post. But I don't cry, I work out. Thanks guys, your help will just come right back to you, AKA Karma.

Hey guys, right now, all I know about engine codes on the 300ZX is Z31. I am assuming the VG30E is the non-turbo, and the VG30ET is the turbo. I would also like to know the codes for the 96-97 Pathfinder engines (There is a system to my madness). Are these two years basically the same And what years from the pathfinder are interchangable with the Z31 Thanks. And before you guys yell at me, I did look on Z31.com, and on here, to no evail. So I tried to find it on my own, damn it!

hey, name's Dizzy, i'm new here. i do not yet have a 300, but am lookin around for a little while, and in the meantime saving money (and still trying to convince the wife that it's necessary). Won't have alot of money to spend so am looking on ebay, but have big plans for the fairlady! I will be doing most of the work at home, so I will need info and advice. Plain and simple, I want a drifter. High HP, and torque, with manual and turbo by the time I'm done. Also body kit, roll cage, custom exhaust (Dizzy style), racing buckets and gauges, as well as some framework (camphoring). If any of you can get me info and advice on these areas, it would definitly be appreciated.

Help... intake

I'm looking to replace my stock intake on my VG30EAfter doing some research and seeing some pics it got me to thinking that maybe I could use the aftermarket intake for 00'-01' Xtera. No one seems to be able to tell me if this is possible or give me guidance on how to accomplish my goal. Not completely true someone suggested a pop charger and although very helpful I would still like to replace this pipe.As is stands right now Im looking at doing a custom piping but since Ive never done this before Im inclined to think it would easier if I could find something pre-made that I use.If this is not possible than I would appreciate some guidance on the fabrication for my application. Not to be rude but instead of suggesting that I search the forums (I have and am still searching the forums) maybe you can provide me with a link to this mythical posts I should be finding but prosiest in eluding me:)

Hello all. I am having some issues with my ignition. I think it is the number 4 cylinder (middle coil on driver side) does not ignite. I checked the plugs, coils and everything is fine. I did however check the wiring plug to the coil with a voltmeter and it first showed 14v, then dropped to 12v, now it's just dead. Any ideasI also checked the computer and shows no fault codes or anything. Interesting considering it's running on 5 cylinders. Any help is much appreciated!

wats up everyone.im new to the forum but its helped out alot during my na to tt swap.i have a 1990 z32 5sp manual trans.ive swaped in a 93 usdm vgdett.today my friend tried conecting the battery and it spark so bad it pitted the negative post.i smelled burnt wire and i knew that meant trouble.so i opend the fuse box next to the battery and sure enough the blue fuse was burnt and split.im hoping thats all that was damaged because the ecu was not connected.i checked all my ground wires for the engine harness and they we nicely secured to either the body or the engine itself.so that leaves me to think it wud b the alternator or the starter..anothr possibility wud have to be the amp wires that were installed by the previous owner.they all all open and lying in the trunk of the car.the positive and negative do run to the battery but they were not connected.so i thought..thats when i noticed that the positve wire for the amp had got connectd to the positive wire for the starter.but the amp (+/-) wires in the trunk were all wrapped together..duhhhhhh!!!! lol so i un-hooked the (+)cable for the the NON EXSISTANT amp and wrapped it in electrical tape.im really hoping that was the problem but i wud like to be sure before i put another fuse in the fuse box and make the same mistake.especially if its something else.. if you have any suggestions that wud help out alot...
More power from NA VG30 12:1 pistons for sale cheap.

FS: 12:1 JE pistonsI know this is not the FS portion but its not everyday something like this is availible for a VGI've added a link to my ad on Maxima.org but as we all know, the VG30E was used in many vehicles, most of which I am not on any forums for. They could work nicely for someone who thinks outside the box a little. I was willing to work with the chevy rod thing but in the end I could not use them because the have been lightened under the dome and I needed less than 12:1Best to email or call as I rarely am on this site. Here's the link and the orig.http://forums.maxima.org/1st-3....htmlseller: Mark Dagostinlocation: Sacramentopayment: paypalshipping: included to lower 48, can ship internationally.contact: 916-548-2919, PM or mdagostin@mbofedh.com price: $100I'm selling a set of used JE pistons for VG30E. What I know about them:They will require 5.7" SBC rods for 2 reasons. 1) compression height and 2) .927" wrist pin. They are in good condition, no scores, dings or cracks. Ring lands look perfect, no mushrooming.slid a .927 pin through one of them and it 'felt' correct. What I don't know about them:EXACT compression ratio- I was told by orig seller they are 12:1. The size of the dome would seem to agree with that, but I have no way of measuring it. I don't know the exact bore but it is above stock, I might as well measure that tomorrow.I don't know the exact rings, my stock ones dont fit if thats any help. This does not include pins or rings or ring locks.set of all 6 shipped to lower 48 $100

VG30 Cold start / low idle issue

I have an '87 Maxima that doesn't seem to act correctly on start up. Shouldn't it do a fast idle for a minute or so after first starting Mine will start but run at very low rpm (sometimes stall) for a minute or so. Once it gets through the warm up period the idle comes up 150 - 200 rpm and it has much better throttle response. I just replaced a piston and rod, and had both heads done as a result of a Timing Belt tensioner failure. I can't find any vacuum leaks and was wondering what a more experienced person would recommend. Thanks, Andy

I have searched for this, and to my shallow scrounging, I have found nothing on doing a swap/conversion from a Z32 VG30DE to a TT.My engine knowledge is scarce, but my questions are as follows:What would I need Can I run it on stock internals Or would I need to be replacing some stuff, or even the whole engine all togetherWould there be any transmission changes, in terms of mounts Or will it end up the same. Which sort of goes in hand with some drive shaft stuff, being custom or whatHow much am I looking at If I need to replace the whole engine Or would it just be some headers, cam, injectors, pump, etc etc.I'm really looking to make my 2+2 a TT, but am unsure how to do it. Thanks alot.

i have a 94 gxe that i am working on turbocharging, currently have the turbo (garrett t25 off sr20det) , injectors, maf, and some other odds and ends. i have seen mtcookson's way of turboing the vg by mounting the turbo on the crossover pipe. what i'd like to know is if i use the turbo manifold off of a z31 will the turbo clear the front motor mount i know it wont clear the fans but im not worried about that. anyone running this setup or is a custom motor mount required thanks.

I have a 87 vg30E that is giving me a problem. I got spark at the end of the cranking motion so I set the timing. It made improvements to sparking completely but for some reason it just won't turn over. Am I missing something else or is the problem bigger than me. I'm about ready to stick a match in the tank and say the heck with it. Is anyone else out there with me or any suggestions to salvage my sanity-Kid Dynamite-

Hi I am new to this site and new to ownership of a 97 infiniti I30. The car was really cheap becuse it has 250,000 miles. It needs fog light housings and corners emblems that I will need to find used if anyone has some. I am having trouble finding this sensor on the 3.0 I have an illustration from alldatapro.com and it shows it on the bottom and in front of the MAF sensor. I cant see it anywhere on my car. any help on helping me locate this would be much appreciated. I also have codes P0135 O2 Sensor (B1S1) and P0325 Knock sensor. Also any suggestions on finding all parts from one source at a great price I love this car!

usdm tt swap vaccum and wiring help

Hi guys, I am an s chasis guy so vgs are new to me but I convinced a friend to do a tt swap on his na z32. We got a usdm motor from a guy putting an ls6 in his z. We got basically the whole front clip. Piping sidemounts, vaccum hoses, oil cooler, jwt ecu, and some other goodies. I put the tt motor in yestersday but I don't even know where to begin with the vaccum lines or the intercooler piping. Those r the big issues. We also baught a brand new harness from z1 and I need some help with that. Is there a clear cut vaccum diagram or wiring diagram out there The search function on hhere is not helpin me one bit. Since we have a tuned ecu do I still need the boost solenoids And we also have an egr delete so I think that makes it a lil easier

We also baught a brand new harness from z1 and I need some help with that. Is there a clear cut vaccum diagram or wiring diagram out there? The search function on hhere is not helpin me one bit. Since we have a tuned ecu do I still need the boost solenoids? And we also have an egr delete so I think that makes it a lil easier

Help me diagnose my motor (non-firing cylinders)

I recently purchased a low mileage j30 that needed some work. When I first started the car it had some noises, primarily what sounds like the idler pulley (very scratchy). I can provide a video but it doesn't pertain to the major problem at hand. The motor runs kind of rough, and I've narrowed it down to cylinders 5 and 6 (the rear most cylinders). I unplug the coils one at a time and notice the motor stumble except on the 5 and 6 coils. So I swapped the coil on one side to check if the coil was bad but the behavior did not change. I decided to do a compression check and all cylinders checked out fine (170-180 psi). Nothing alarming when I pulled the spark plugs. While cranking the motor for the comp. check I noticed fuel spraying out of the cylinder 5 spark plug hole (i forgot to depressurize the system). So that tells me its getting fuel. But maybe not spark does this sound like anything familiar Everything firing except the rear most cylinders Otherwise the motor seems very smooth. I appreciate any help. I also thought i'd mention that this is a 94 which I read is not obd-2 unfortunately.

I buy it for 400 bucks, and didn't even have to squeal! when i started to tear into it i noticed the lifter faces looked good. there was no oil on the oil pan, tons on the transmission. tried to put it together. when i finally got the cylinder heads off, i learned two things. 1: BOTH exhaust manifolds were cracked! (NOOOOOO) half of the bolts weren't even ON! I checked the deck on both heads, no warpage. couldn't get a .003 under em. the valves aren't cracked as far as i can tell. and 2: there was no lip.... i could still see the crosshatch pattern on the walls. someone ether bought a crate engine, or had the bottom end rebuilt. the headgasket was put on with RTV lol..... anyway, i took a look at the lifters and a few look to have been changed out. i belive the ticking sound was the manifolds, but i want to make sure the lifters are good before i slap it all back together. i havent found any specs on them, does anyone know where i should go, or have any information on this subject thanks in advance, and i apologize for the excessive post, but i couldn't belive what i found. =P

VG30E interchange: Villager, 94 Donor into 97

Forgive me if I offend the Nissan purist but I've the Quest's Evil Twin--Yes I own a Villager. Which was working fine till a friend drove it with a hole in the oil filter and "Darn if she didn't see the silly little light-thingy, but drove it till it stalled, then drove a "little more" just to get off the interstate"--Yeah Right!I've a 97 Villager 250k with seized crank that I'd like to run till the economy gets better(4 More years) and have located a 94 VG30E Engine Trany combo with 20k. For anyone else but me it would be a drop in and bolt up 2 hour dream but I an not anyone else. O'Riley says it will swap out, Hollander keeps segregating the engines into post 11/93, 94-96, then 97-98. I know there was a crankshaft diameter upgrade, I am hoping the ECU recognizes the transplant without hic-up as I plan to swap most sensors. So how much can I get away without re-fabricating the entire front end I am not worried per se about engineering improvements over the years but only if I can swap the engines and components for a bolt in.Why the distinction between 96 and earlier and 97-98 in Hollander or Why does O'Riley show a single line item for 94-98 What are the adaptations if any I'll need to make to use the 94 Engine and Transmission in the 97Eman

Upper Plenum Help!

I have just done a swap putting a TT motor from my wrecked TT car, into a N/A frame. Everything was able to transfer from car to car rather well, however there are two steel rails that run from the upper plenum, to a Unit bolted to engine bay. They are located just under where the two Fuel rails connect to the fuel lines. One line appears to run from the end of the one fuel regulator. The other is either vacuum or boost, as i hear suction when the engine tried to turn over. I would just try and remove the entire unit from the TT car (Unit consists of a few hoses input/outputs, and a plug). However the unit appears to send two hoses through the firewall where i loose them. I am just trying to figure out if anyone knows what the purpose of each of these two lines are. And what i can do to connect or plug them. As of right now the motor is all hooked up, but wont fire over so i dont know if fuel delivery, or spark is to blame. Any help of the matter would be great, as i havent found much help in the from of diagrams on the net.

I read a lot of topics for VG33And I found here a lot of great way for unleashing the power hidden in these strong block. Ex; boring, supercharging, heads, etc...But I want to know where I can put these motors. In what car will they fitAm I condemned of using them in path, frontier, or can I put a VG33 in a Z32, Z31I have a VG33 stock out of a 99 path And I can put my hands on a 300Z 93-94 not absolutely sure yet. The Z is in great shape but there is no engine.I could mod the VG33 and get the most out fo it, but before I want to know if the mounts are the same Maybe someone know if the size is OK for a 33 in a Z.Before putting money in there I want to know if someone think It can be done.

Porting VG Exhaust manifolds

Ok, thinking about creating a VG36-37 (to get around CARB rules) to eek some more power out of my VG as I slowly make it an off/on road toy. I can't legally use headers for my vehicle on the street, so I was thinking of porting the stock exhaust manifolds to help them flow as freely as possible. If do bore and stroke a VG, I want to waste as little of the increased HP from all the effort required.I understand the potential problems related to fluid dynamics, but I was more curious if anyone has done this and what issues I might possibly run into by grinding some of the manifold wall away. Thoughts anyone

Well as the title states, I finally got the engine for my 1973 Toyota celica. 1989 vg30e, 5 speed transmission, ecu, and wire harness for 525. I already got my turbo ecu and will be reconditioning the engine prior to installation into my engine bay. 130 rwhp and 150+ rwtq stock will be very fun as is in my 2000lb chassis. I will start a build thread once I actually get the motor to my garage to work on it.

VG30DE Parts - Lifeters/Timing/Head (92 N Gloria)

Hey folks Proud owner of a 92 Nissan Gloria GT here. Unfortunately, as appears to be common with these engines my baby has developed a rather bad cases of lifter tick and I am looking at having to replace one of the banks.I figured, that while I was there I would do a timing belt swap as well as some other regular changing of the partsNow here's the fun part. I currently reside in Canada, so the vehicle was never produced in NA and as such parts and an FSM are impossible to find. (No walking into the auto shop and asking )While both the 300ZX and Infitini J30 were seen in N/A (both of which used the VG30DE) I am a unsure as to which car's engine I should be basing any part replacements off, for mounting and compatibility.Any assistance or if your able to point me in the right direction, would be much appreciated Cheers

I have a 1993 Maxima with a VG30E engine. The car has 242,000 miles on it and has performed well over the years. I recently replaced fuel injectors 3 and 5. About two months later, fuel injector 4 failed. While replacing injector 4, I also replaced all the remaining injectors. Remanufactured fuel injectors were used. Since then, two more fuel injectors have failed. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for that would be causing the fuel injectors to failThanks, Mike

ive been rebuilding my na 300zx for 9 months and i just dropped my engine in. i had 24 bent valves when i bought it so i took it apart down to the block, replaced all piston rings, gaskets, silcone hoses, fuel lines, repainted, and added air intake and headers. Now before i hooke the radiator up, the belts and all the vacuum lines, it ran and idled (rough as hell obviuosly). so i took the plenum off and finished doing the vaccum lines and installed the radiator. now it just kicks over and bogs down. its seems like its not getting fuel. im getting frustrated, any ideas thanks

VG30E vs VG30ET

I would like to know other then the compression ratiowhat is the difference between the blocks. Because im swaping a VG30E from a pathfinder into my 300zx but the pathy oil pan and other things dont fit and i can get a VG30ET for parts and i want to know if the parts will fit or not cause my oil pan from my 300zx has 4 holes in it 1 of witch is about 3 inches wide (connecting rod passed through there ha ha) and alsoit would give me some extra parts to get moded.basicaly i need an oil pan and oil stranner for the pathfinderVG and i cant get them anywhere not even NISSAN has them !(but i found a VG30ET that has a good pan and stranner)WOULD THEY FIT THANK YOU !!!p.s it might sound like a stupid question but i prefer askingthe stupid questions first then to look like an idiot for notgetting the right parts and being stuck with them !
