Finally had enough of the overly bright cluster lighting

One week of ownership and I had finally had it with those bright instrument cluster lights. I'd dim them as far as they'd go and then I couldn't see any of the console lights.

Here's what I did....
I removed and disassembled the cluster as far as I safely could without risking damage to the circuit board, which meant I had the gauge cluster in the white housing still attached to the circuit board. Pulling on the board was tugging on the gauge needles so I stopped there.

At that point I had to rethink what I was going to do, I mean, I had it apart - no sense in putting it back together without trying something.

It seemed as though most of the bothersome light was coming from the lighted ring around the gauges themselves, so I took some o-rings, cut them to length, glued the ends together and fit them snuggly around each gauge. All I could find was 3/32 thick o-rings but I would recommend 1/16 if you can find it because the 3/32 made putting it back together a bit snug for the plastic clips on the black inner housing. In fact, I even broke a couple plastic clips getting it back together but it looks fine and all the seams are tight now that it�s back in the vehicle.

For the cruise indicators and the high beam indicator I used a short strip of black pin striping tape horizontally to cover about 70% of the indicators. I cut one end to fit the curve of the gauge and put a simple decorative cut on the other end which stops in the center of the gauge. If you didn�t know Muranos you would think it�s a styling thing. Lol

Tonight will be the real test but I think it may be dim enough to bring the cluster up a few clicks so I can see the console lights.

I am planning on buying an LE and even though I am not crazy about the sunroof, they all come with it...seen that there are apparently 2 sunroofs, do they open independtly or individually or do they open at all?.....or the function is limited to the interior shades alone?....
I wish that the sunroof was an option on the LE...oh well...thanks for any replies..

yesterday the Murano simply quit on secondary road at 55mph...engine shut down totally/ I was able to get it off the road without power

it started again in a minute and then quit at the next light

dealer towed it in and after two days - nothing - they are stumped
they did get it to start and then it quit for them also - so they know I'm not crazy

7500 miles - 6 months old

seems electronic to me...anyone with an idea?

I'm looking at these because they are affordable and the Eagle LS's on it now don't seem to rate high on snow traction at all.

2009 Murano factory AV inputs in back of the Center Console

I have an 09 Murano that has the factory inputs in the Center console. This is not the Ipod connector. It is standard AV inputs, (Left, right and video). I was told by my dealer that it will show video on the center screen when the car is not in motion. I can't get anything to come up on this screen at all. The Left and Right Audio works, but the video does not. Am I missing something here?

Hello everyone, my names Kyle. My wife and I recently purchased a '06 Murano S AWD. She wanted an SUV for easier hauling of the granddaughter but none of the SUV's appealed to her until we ran across this '06. Looking around we noticed that it's pretty bare bones but the adjustable pedals make her happy since she's a bit vertically challenged. She would like heated seats but isn't a fan of leather so maybe we can add that later (was a heated steering wheel available in the Murano?).

I have a few questions if somebody doesn't mind my lengthy post.

The first issue is the transmission... It seems to brake when we let off the throttle. It's more noticeable at slower speeds and doesn't seem to coast like a "normal" transmission does. I'm not used to the CVT so maybe this is normal.

Second issue is the dash lights and cruise indicators. Is there any way to dim these further? The instrument cluster is so bright, even on the dimmest setting compared to the center console lights. And the cruise indicators are blinding and don't dim with the dash lights.

Third is a "smelly shoe" smell from the vents. It's not a dead animal, the wife says musty but I think it smells like an old shoe. Is there a TSB or some kind of fix for this like disinfecting the evaporator maybe? I need to check the evap drain, too.

I'd like to add some driving lights to the fog light ports once I figure out a way to get that done - it doesn't have fogs.

I like it and she loves it. Again, some more options would be nice and if we find out she could have had a heated steering wheel she might have to add one or trade for one!

2009 Murano LE Wipers

I just had the 15K service done at the dealer where I bought my 2009 Murano and at that time they replaced the wipers blades with refills. I was killing time and wandered back to the parts desk where they quoted me $40 for replacement blades, so I just had them do the refills as that seemed a bit high to me. The rear wiper is now totally jacked and isn't wiping worth a diddly - it's as if the blade is floating above the glass or something. The front wipers are okay and seem to be like new again.

I'm going to buy some blades on the internet and wanted to confirm the right sizes for the front of the vehicle. Are they 26" (driver's side) and 16" (passenger's side)? Also, what is the inside scoop on changing out the back blade? Is there a special tool or do you just have to go to the dealer to have it done?

I've got a 2009 Murano S. I want to add fog lights. My local dealership told me they don't have fog lights in there part catalog. I know the SL models have them and I have the spots for them. JUST RECEIVED A LETTER FROM NISSAN STATING THE WARRANTY ON MY 2004 MURANO HAS BEEN EXTENDED FROM 5YEARS/60K MILES TO 10 YEARS/120K MILES ON THE TRANSMISSION. AND IF I HAD PAID FOR A PREVIOUS REPAIR I WOULD BE REIMBURSED. JUST SUBMIT A RECEIPT. THIS IS GREAT NEWS BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS THE TRANS ON THESE VEHICLES IS THE WEAKEST LINK AND ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. WAY TO GO NISSAN FOR STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE AND REASSURING ITS CUSTOMERS THAT THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. ALSO THIS WARRANTY IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE TO ALL OWNERS.

Crackling Sound from Dashboard Area

Please help! I have a 2009 Murano that is 1.5 years old. When it was less than four months old, it began making a continual noise from the dashboard region. My kids say it sounds like Pop Rocks. It has been to the dealer several times for them too look into it, the last time being about six months ago where they said they took apart the dash, filled places with foam, and put it back together. The noise-free environment lasted for maybe a month before it started acting up again.

First, has anyone else had this problem? It is not a LOUD noise, per se, but loud enough that it's very annoying if there's no radio on. I might excuse this in a car that's many years old, but this is ridiculous.

Any ideas? I'm getting ready to call a different dealer for service, as I'm not too happy with my current service.

HELP!!! Murano Bose 6 disc Radio--No Sound

So, my darling 2 year old girl decided that the CD changer was a piggy bank. AGAIN!!!! I know, poor parenting...

Everything works, display shows CDs are playing, just no sound. I pulled it apart and dumped out all the change, still no sound. Guessing that the circuits are fried. Nav voice works fine, so I'm fairly certain it is the radio.

The first time, the dealership managed to fanagle me a new radio. This time, no dice. They want between 1200-1500$. PUKE!!

I located a 2006-7 Bose, 6 disc from a salvage yard. Am fairly confident that I can replace myself, since I pulled the last one out and replaced it. Anything tricky I should know about? Anyone think it's not a radio issue?

murano pitch and roll

Have a 2007 Murano front wheel drive 40k miles. Just recently I have begun to experience significant pitch and roll from the rear wheels/suspension when going over bumps. Rear end seems to sway a/k/a pitch and roll. Seems early days for new shocks if that would even address the problem. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Thanks.

Front License Plate Bends in Car Wash

The front license plate bracket on my 2009 Murano only has two holes (at the top of the bracket) for securing the plate. That leaves the metal plate hanging with no bracket backing or support on the lower half of the plate. When I go through a car wash the front plate always ends up getting bent by the spinning cloth strips in the car wash.
I tried installing an aftermarket metal frame, but it just gets bent along with the plate.

This seems to be somewhat of a design flaw to leave the bottom half of the plate exposed/unsecured. My previous FX35 didn't have this issue as the plate bracket fully secured the plate.

I've looked online but can't find anyone who makes a bracket that would do the job on a Murano.

Any suggestions (other than not using automated car washes)?

HELP! 2005 Murano huge clunking sound (on highway now!!)

I have the whole family in the car and just getting on the highway when the car starts making a huge clunking!

At first I thought it was a flat as it make the whole car lurch with each clunk.

Tires are fine.

Then it thought it might have been a broke CV joint, but visually inspecting then looking under the car they look ok.

Engine is fine, the clunks happen at random intervals at any speed. More noticable inside the car.

I am thinking it is the CVT, anyone had this before? I am thinking I will have to have it towed to a dealer, which I don't like the idea as I am on a tight budget.

Anything I can check to possibly fix the problem?

I have researched and found some conflicting stories. My wife and I just got a 06 Pathfinder SE with Bose 6disc. We just ordered the 999U9-AS006 unit for it. From the PDF I found it appears to get installed in the rear truck jack tool area? http://www.infiniti-parts.com/...6.pdf

Is there a factory prewired harness there?
Do I need to buy a harness?
All I think I need is the tuner unit, mounting bracket, and antenna. Is this right?

Also had a question about adding a PAC AAI-NIS2. So I can a aux jack for my wifes mp3 player.

Any issues?
Things to watch for?

Looking at adding the nav compartment for the garmin also. She currently has a Nuvi 200 will the fit in the bracket?

I recently purchased a new aluminum trimmed console lid latch assembly for about $22.00 from Nissan. The old one was pretty beat up and I was going to cover with a trim kit but discovered a new one was cheap...

My problem is that replacing seems to be pretty tricky and appears to be a multi-step process.

Does anyone have suggestions about how to go about it?

2003 Murano motor clicking

I have a 2003 Murano. In June 2009 I brought it to the dealership for clicking noise in the engine when accelerating. They said the problem was the front engine mount was broken due to ware and tear. It cost me $450 for one mount to be replaced. Now, I am hearing the same noise again. Before taking it back to the dealership, I had a mechanic take a look at it and there was liquid on the back mount (not oil). I have taken it back to the dealership and they said it is not the engine mount, but an oil valve, there are 2 valves, went bad and it is not reading the oil levels. They told me that it went bad because I went too long before changing the oil. I will admit that my last oil change was 5 months ago, but I can't believe that it would ruin the valve that fast. The oil light never came on. So they quoted me to replace the valve and oil change $450. The same price I paid back in June. Also the mechanic told me that an engine mount for the Murano is 6 years life expectency. And the Murano has four. Can anyone tell me do I believe them? My car is not that old and it is my carpool car. I take to softball practice and pick the kids up from school. So off roading! I need some advice.

09 Murano SL - Car shut-off on the freeway!!! HELP!!!

PLEASE HELP!

I bought a 2009 Murano SL just last week...it has 350 miles on it and twice now it has shut-off in mid drive. The first time I was stopped at a red light. The dealer said it was a faulty gas/o2 sensor and they promptly replaced it.

This time, however, I was going 70mph on the freeway. It was a very disturbing experience when I had to coast across 5 lanes of LA rush hour traffic. Not happy with this purchase!!!

The car is at the dealer now, but does anyone have any suggestions???

Winter Wheel Question

Just wondering what everyone in snow country is running for winter wheels. I'm wondering if I should get 18" winter tires or could I run a smaller wheel and tire (16" or 17"). There's also the possibility of getting a used set of older model Murano Rims and using them with snow tires. Anyone have any recommendations or advice. I'm driving an 09 SL AWD with stock 18s.

'09 Seat Heating

The seat heater on my �09 seems lately as if has gotten weaker. The high setting now takes about 4 minutes before I feel anything and gets about as warm as the low setting used to. The low setting gets mildly warm but it takes a while to heat up.

Previously I would need to turn the high setting off because the seat would get too warm�.which I liked since I often get muscle spasms in my back and the high heat felt great.

I took the car to the dealer yesterday to have it checked out and they said the seat heat operates and cycles within normal operating ranges. This morning I hopped in the passenger seat to compare and got the same �weakened� result. In addition my wife said she hasn�t noticed a change in the passenger seat heat. Could I have originally had a defect which caused the drivers seat to get too warm and then corrected itself?

Anyway, I�d like to ask those of you with heated seats how yours perform. Does it take a couple of minutes before you feel anything on the high setting? Is the low setting just mildly warm? I know it�s a subjective question but any info would help.

Intelligent Key Question

For a 2009 Murano S, is there a way to get an intelligent key after the car has been purchased? I thought all 2009 Murano comes with the standard intelligent key.. I didn't realize it comes with the technology upgrade.. but is there a way to get one that will work with the basic 09 Murano S? Doesn't the system already installed in it that you just have to get an intelligent key for it to work?

Is this a problem with my IPOD connection

Hi guys

I'm just wondering if this is a problem or not. If I have been listening to the CD player or the radio and the IPOD is plugged in too all is well for the duration of my trip. When I head out on another trip I find that the radio or CD's will play momentarily and then it just defaults to the IPOD but doesn't play anything at all.

I have an 09 LE and don't want to complain to the dealer if it's just a simple solution.

If I completely unplug the IPOD then the radio and CD changer stay on each time I start the car. It's when the IPOD is still connected that both the radio and CD player turn off after about 30 seconds of play and I'm left with no sound and the IPOD connection showing on the screen.

Thanks for any insight you can give me into this rather annoying little problem.

I just bought a 2006 Murano AWD but it does not have the VDC. I'd love to hear how they go in the snow/slush/ice from any of you who've driven one through a Winter or two. I am coming from an AWD Subaru and honestly, it is going to be hard to top for bad weather performance. I've read good things about the Murano in the snow, but it seems most of those people comment on the VDC and since I don't have that, I'm wondering how mine will do.

Just brought my new 09 Murano SL home last night & I need help with getting my regular MP3 player to work. Mine came equipped with the IPOD interface, but since I don't own an ipod, that doesn't do me any good. I know there are 3 aux jacks behind the middle console, but my cable I have that came with my mp3 doesn't insert fully into the jacks. Do I have to buy a special cable to hook my player up to the jacks? Will any of the 3 color jacks work or does it need to be hooked to a specific color? Does anyone have a link for the cable I need to buy if that is the solution? Thanks for any help!!!

I purchased a 2009 Nissan Murano....the top of the line model with all of the bells and whistles in April of 2008, and love it but.....I have had so many problems with it....

Sun Roof motor had to be replaced.
All 4 rims are being replace due to peeling around the center cap.
Screws and Washers on the rack are rusting....they are also replacing.
The biggest problem of all is that 2 months after purchasing it I noticed an antifreeze smell and made mention of it when I went for my oil chance. They could find nothing wrong. I have complained every oil change to my dealer about this antifreeze smell and they never seem to be able to find where it is coming from. Well finally after 1 1/2 years of complaining they find out that it is either the intake or the head gasket. They put dye in and had me drive it until the new rims and parts for the rack came in. They checked it this week and found that the head gasket needs to be replaced.

Has anyone out there had these problems with their 2009 Murano? Also, what damage if any will there be to my vehicle now that they have allowed this head gasket problem to go on so long?

Love my Murano but sick of dealing with these problems. Isn't that why we buy a new vehicle so we don't have to deal with them????

Is there a way of opening the trunk from the inside?
Were is the rear window defrost button?

moon roof shade question

Starting to notice on my 2009 with 1800 miles, that since getting cooler outside but still parked in garage and temp around 40 deg that when I open the moon roof shade it opens smoothly until there is about another 1 1/2" to open it stops or drags, almost like it has a clutch of some sort that is weak in the winde mechanism.Once the interior warms up its fine.Anyone else seen this? cant belive it would work at all here when it really gets cold for our normal 10 above to 30 below zero winter.

The radio in my 2004 Murano has completely lost sound. The unit works, I can change the stations, insert and removed cds, but there is no sound coming from the speakers.

Can someone help? We checked the fuses and those are ok...

Wiring for trailer hitch

Hello all. I recently installed the Hidden Hitch on my 09 Murano. I purchased a wiring harness specifically for the 09 Murano. Based on the information I'm seeing online, all I need to do is connect the wires inline with the brake lights and the ground and I'm set. However, the instructions have a wire heading up to the battery. Does anyone have any thoughts on the necessity of the wire to the battery?

i know that the rogue has a bolt pattern of 5x114.3, 66.06mm center bore and a +40mm offset stock. the rims are same bolt pattern and have a +35mm offset. but i dont know the center bore for these 18inch rims.

i also wanted to add: will the different 5mm offset wear out my wheel bearings faster? i dont think 5mm will make a difference but correct me if im wrong.

Auto start feature on the 09 Murano

Hello , I have the auto start feature installed on my 09 murano le. When I get in the car after auto starting it I have to hit the brake and the car shuts off and I have to restart. Anyone know the trick to getting the car to stay on after auto starting?

Rear hatch is jammed

Hi,
Hopefully someone can help. Last night I closed my rear hatch and the strap to my backpack got shut in the latch. Now the rear hatch will not open.

It is an '07 S. I have tried the manual release on the inside and it still will not open. From the looks of it, the strap looks to be caught up in there pretty good. Any ideas on how I can get this unjammed?

2009 Seat problem

here in Australia we have but two models of Murano, the high spec model has a seat setting choice that will put the seat in it's most rearward position to assist in getting out of the vehicle, however mine has stopped operating at all & I can no longer set a driving position automatically........at first Nissan Australia told the dealer that once the driving positions are set the seat no longer returns to it's most rearward position......I find this hard to believe but in order to confirm this I saked the dealer to delete the set driving positions and it did not fix the problem, the dealer believes it is a 'setting' hassle rather than a machanical fault, at this stage we are waiting for more info from Nissan...............has anyone else had a similar problem ?

Oil/Knocking

Ive been having problems recently with my 03 Murano (100k). I started hearing some rattling, which seemed to be low oil initially. Even after the oil was topped off, there was still a little rattling when accelerating. Now I'm only 1500 after my last oil change and I'm down a quart of oil. There doesn't seem to be a leak (or at least nothing on my driveway). This started a few oil changes ago, and seems to be getting worse. The mechanic scratched his head, couldn't find a problem and gave me an additive which he said would fix the problem in a few oil changes. I'm not really buying it. Any thoughts?

Upgrading Headlights in 09 Murano

So, I'm thinking about upgrading the headlights in my new 09 Murano. Does anyone have any experience with this? Here is what I am thinking about

1) Upgrading to HID lights, which I think would require new ballast and such...
A) Is this something I would need done by a Nissan dealer
B) Is this something I can get done by like a Pep Boys or local Mechanic
C) Is this something I can do myself because it really isn't that hard or time consuming
2) The cost of doing this would be around
A) the parts
B) the labor

Hello guys! I bought my 09 Murano last July but the dealership gave me only 1 i-key. On my previous cars, the dealership usually give 2 sets of keys. Does Nissan only give one intelligent key per car to its customer and the other one (spare) you still need to request so they can program the RFID?

Even though this was designed for the rogue, etc. I really like how it turned out on the Murano. Totally worth it! I love how I don't have to take my eyes off the road.

Hi List, i recently clipped a trash can too close to the street, couldn't avoid it and today found that i bashed the housing on the mirror. Does anyone have any idea what this will cost to replace; the mirror is fine, the housing is just smashed. I drive a 2005 black Murano. Are there places online to find Nissan parts cheaper than the dealer? I just joined the list and have enjoyed reading so far. Thanks for any advice or help. I do love my Murano, it's my first after having 3 Z's and 3 Pathfinders.

2009 Murano bluetooth with Pandora

I have my Storm paired with my Murano via bluetooth and answering and making calls works swell. It always reconizes my phone, pretty slick. Now I want to listen to Pandora, which now has a bluetooth option and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I enable bluetooth on Pandora and the sound from my phone stops (assuming it should now be picked up on the stereo), but nothing happens on my stereo. I don't know if I need to tune to a specific station or have it on Aux or what. Should it just happen automatically? What am I missing here?? Or should it work and it's not?

I was almost out of gas the other day (the light was on for about 15 miles). The screen said that I had 22 miles left on 'distance to empty'. I went to fill up and the gas pump began clicking at 16.3 gallons (the tank got full). However, the tank of a Murano is 21.7 gallons. that means that even though the light was on, and the needle was almost touching empty, there were still 5.4 gallons in the car? Does that make any sense? How can i accurately get MPG for my car?

Misaligned Headlamps

I just bought a 2009 Murano SL 360. It�s been a great driving experience. While driving at night though, I noticed that the driver's side and the passenger side headlights are NOT at the same level. The throw of light cast down the road reaches considerably shorter for the driver�s side than for the passenger�s side. This is disconcerting because, you are not able to see objects appear from the left side of the vehicle as quickly as with the driver's side. Consequently, your reaction time is slower and is a safety concern at the least.

I mentioned this to our Nissan service department yesterday while getting a routine oil check and service. Surprisingly, I got 7 DIFFERENT responses from the technicians, service advisors and the service managers. I was totally confused at this point.

THE TEST:
To test this issue, they pulled my Murano into a service bay. Not the Vehicle Inspection bay, but up to a "makeshift" lounge chair (old car bench seat) and shone the headlights on it from 4 feet away. Now, according to one auto technician's opinion, this "test" proves that I was "imagining things". He said, "The headlights are adjusted fine, since it was a new vehicle".

I requested that my Murano headlamps be measured in the Inspection Bay with the professional equipment. They decided to close one of the large metal doors and from about 20 feet, shine the Murano's headlights on it to test the theories.

NISSAN SERVICE RESPONSES:
1.There is nothing wrong. The lights are level. You're not looking at them correctly.
2.They ARE set at different levels. This is a Nissan feature so as not to blind the oncoming traffic from the driver's side.
3.This is not a feature, but you can adjust them to WHATEVER LEVEL YOU LIKE by using a Phillips screwdriver.
4.There is no adjustment that can't be made.
5.There is an adjustment to fix this issue, but they can't find the adjusters.
6.Take it to the Nissan Body shop where they have the proper tools to adjust them.
7.Take it to the Nissan Body shop and have them install shims (washers) to force them to level.

I escalated this issue to the Service Manager. After mentioning these claims to him, (his original statement is #6), he huffed and deferred me to the advice of the Shop Manager.

Now the attending Shop Manager adamantly claimed that this is a Nissan feature (after retracting his original statement #1), because on the big metal door, THEY DO SHOW the difference in adjustment) and that he can prove it by bringing in another "brand new" Murano (same model/year) from the lot and they would be leveled the same as mine. Stating that ALL 2009 NISSAN MURANO headlamps are leveled the same way...as a Safety Feature for oncoming drivers!

When he brought another Murano and parked it in the same location where he parked mine for the test. He shone the lights on the same big, metal door and much to everyone�s surprise (get ready)�the opposite level was the case! The passenger side headlamp was projecting lower than the driver�s side. Imagine the look on the technicians and manager�s faces. They couldn�t explain it! Then the original technician now shows up again to add his theory (also #1 from above), that nothing was wrong with the levels which was summarily dismissed by 2 techs and their manager. The shop manager now claims that it�s definitely a �body shop� adjustment, because THEY HAVE THE TOOLS to adjust them.

The Shop Manager called the body shop manager. The body shop manager remarked that �he had never heard of the process of adjusting headlamps on this vehicle� and �did not have any tools for this�. His suggestion was to add the metal washers to raise the height of either headlamp to bring them even.

To end chapter one, it was whispered to me by a service professional to log a call with (800) NISSAN-1 (or 800-647-7261). I'll keep you posted. Note: Murano�s have a headlamp adjustment for BOTH headlights to compensate for vehicle loads. This can be manually adjusted for BOTH headlamps and not individually.

Purchased a 2009 le Murano with Nav about a month ago and think it is just great. We have the Ipod connection in the center console which is great. However, I tried to plug in my Blackberry today and cannot find an aux. jack for this. My first question is I am I missing it somewhere? Second question is do they make some sort of adaptor from the IPOD connection to my phone aux jack?
