Starting trouble

everytime i start my car the rpms go all the way down and the engine either stalls or barely recovers. usually it stalls. if i gas it a little after starting it up, the rpms go to a normal idling level..any ideas?96 240sx base

I'm having the exact same problem, I'll start it with the AC off and everything but sometimes it just sputters and dies.Im thinking air filter needs to be cleaned or maybe new ignition wires? spark plugs? who knows... Im not very good when it comes to being a mechanic :(

Might be a fuel delivery problem, not sure. Check to see if yor fuel pump is working properly.
