I have a redtop in my 95 and my car runs hot when not moving. If my car is running while sitting still for 5-10 minutes the temp will rise fast. When im driving around no matter the temp the needle usually sits about a third of the way to hot(on the water temp gauge). I have a Koyo radiator with a 14'' permacool fan and just replaced the thermostat with an OEM one from Nissan. Any ideas how to solve this and get my baby to stay cool? Im in hinesville, ga where the average temp is a cool FIREY HELL!!!

ive heard of a few people having problems after they dumped their clutch fans. seems like they really move a lot of air. how is your e-fan wired up? are you using any type of shroud?

What does your engine idle at I had the same trouble with my KA. It was idled down to low and wasn't flowing enough coolant.

skatanic28-I dont have a shroud just the housing the fan came in; the fan is wired to the transmission sensor fuse so when the car is on the fan is on.

Quickflow240- my engine idles at 1200-1400rpm

Check your radiator cap, and bleed your coolant system. I know it sounds basic, but I had some crazy, random overheating problems that I couldn't figure out. Over time, coolant was evaporating out through my faulty radiator cap. Once a little air got in the system, it didn't help the situation. Our cars seem to be very, very sensitive to air in the coolant. I had to bleed mine about 3 times before I got all the air out, now, even with being turbocharged, my temp gauge never moves.

sounds stupid but could the water pump be dead? ;)

I believe it has air in the lines, but i have a Koyo radiator which doesnt have a bleed valve. I did however take the radiator cap off and started it, then i squeezed the radiator hoses slighty and it bubbled and sent some coolant out, after repeating a few times the air seems to have gone and the car seems to stay a bit cooler.

The bleed valve is not built into the radiator, it is built into the water oulet that feeds into the upper radiator hose. Remove the bleed screw to let all the air out. Keep putting coolant in until air bubbles stop coming out of the bleed screw hole. If you haven't properly bled the system, then you definately still have air in the system. Should fix your problem once it's bled. By the way, I usually bleed the system with the car running, radiator cap off, with the heater going.

an air lock will cause the car to run hot in all situations. An overheating problem at an idle is caused by a lack of air moving across the radiator. You might consider putting your manual fan back on to see if it fixes the problem. If it does then you will need to make some changes with you electric fan situation. This is the cheapest way to diagnos the problem.
