How much torque and hp will a stock 1991 5 speed transmission handle? I have 207 hp and 177 ft-lbs. of torque at the rear wheels. I'm road racing the car. thanks.

Found out today from previous owner that the synchros on the stock transmission failed numerous times on him. Trying to find a used Jerico 5 speed.

I have been using a KA transmission on my SR powered car for about 9 months now. The KA transmission has lasted longer than the SR transmission did. I dynoed at 10psi last summer on a 103* afternoon and it made 205hp and 220tq. Now I am running 14.5psi and making a good bit more power.

Trust me the KA transmission is just fine. The only way you will break anything is if you suck at driving. The Synchros won't just crap out, you have to physically break them. A friend of mine COMPLETELY destroyed the synchros in his FC with 30k original miles on it in 2 weeks because he was just learning how to drive stick and totally sucked at it. I have been beating the crap out of my KA transmission with my SR and have had no issues whatsoever.

You should be good up to at least 300+ WHP and WTQ

no, they are not the same, and if you don't believe me, I have the pictures to back up my statement. They are quite different. The rear cases are the same, but other than that, they are different...

EDIT: TO be more specific they are *basically* the same meaining that the outer dimensions and input shaft dimensions are the same, but internally they are completely different. The SR uses slightly taller gears, huge beefy aluminum shift forks, slightly larger diameter shift rods and sealed bearings. The KA transmission has slightly smaller gears, small steel shift forks, slightly smaller shift rods and uses open bearings.

KA gearing on an SR = teh WIN!!!1!!
