Has anyone had success with using the start-the-engine-with-the-breaker-bar-still-on-the-crank-pully method? I'm having a hell of a time with breaking the nut and I'm almost desperate enough to attempt this method.

Yeah it works, but unless you have a better way to tighten up the nut when you're done, I wouldn't do it if I were you.

I'm sure you've tried this, but put the transmission in 5th and have someone stomp on the brake while you turn the bar. Worked for me while doing my timing chain.

take the valve cover off, put a wrench on the cam, use the chain to help you tighten it. It'll also help to put some assembly lube on the washer when you put the bolt back in to make sure you've got an accurate torque.

got it. just used the ol' legs as leverage. i also had the engine in 5th with the parking brake on. Now I'm just having a hell of a time getting the pully off. This is a great day!!!
