Sort of OT, but i can't dig up the info, and I haven't a service manual, so...There's 4 sensors on a KA transmission, RPM, 4th, 5th and speed. A friend had a transmission swap done on his Frontier, and now the speedo and odo just don't work. Which sensor is the speed? I'm pretty sure it's the very rear one, I know the front one (on the bellhousing) is RPM, seems logical that the speed sensor would read the driveshaft, I mucked around with it a little (jiggled it, made sure it was connnected), no luck - am I working with the right sensor? The wiring is fine, I'm hoping this guy didn't get rooked on a broken transmission...

you could have just moved the sensors from the old transmission to the old one one to one and if you were paranoid, with the harness granted they are the same transmission.

quiksilvia, I doubt it, the old transmission's long gone.

180fan, that would have been a great idea, but I wasn't around for the work, I just took this on when he mentioned the problem in passing.

One thing I've never found out is where the hell the speed sensor is on the damn thing... anyone have a haynes picture or something. My speed sensor needs to be replaced but I have never known where it is so I've never changed it. Yes I have looked before too... :(

Get the car on jackstands. Slide underneath and look at the far back of the transmission, where the shift lever and driveshaft are. Right in front of the shifter, on the top of the transmission, is the speeed sensor; I'm guessing it reads off the driveshaft. It's tight under an S14 though, you're gonna have a fun time replacing it.

Thanks man. I hope to help you out one day too... I'll take a look. LOL. Someone told me that my speed sensor might just be disconnected. If that were the case you've just made my day man.

If your odo isn't turning, it's probably the sensor, otherwise it might be the gauge pack. Anytime bro, that's what the forums are here for..

unless the s14 transmission is different, thats not right, but i dont know for sure, on teh s13, the speed sensor is on the side in the way back of the transmission, last sensor. im not doubting pball's info, just wanted to make sure we are all talking about the same thing.

still the aftmost sensor, it's just up on top instead of on the side.

I checked 91 fsm and 89 fsm, starting at the front of the transmission and going back...first sensor is reverse lamp, second sensor is O.D. switch, third(near top, front of shifter)is the neutral switch, and lastly near the bottom is the speed sensor. speed sensor is in a cylindrical housing and should have a long harness coming out of it.

Anybody have a manual for an s14? Here's my transmission; the 4 sensors you see are the only 4 on it. 240doc...5-speed or auto?

Hm...thanks. Dunno if it'll help; we've been mokeying around with all the sensors under the truck and nothing seems to work. The continuity test is good, now to find the speed sensor..on the diff like in a 300zx maybe?

You need to pull the 4th, 5th and speed sensors 240SX=fun4me!, there's another whole thread about that on the forum.

Governor Wire Cutting I think it's called...the 240SX.org FAQ covers it well too.
