My check engine light came on, and I would like to be able to check the code without taking the car to a mechanic. How can I do this without a diagnositc tool? I have a 1995 Altima, KA24DE, with roughly 137,000. The car appears to be running fine, and I think the prolem might just be something stupid. I want to be safe though. I had this problem when I bought the car. It was the O2 sensor. Part was replaced and light reset. Then, two weeks later, the light came on again. This time, the mechanic said the code that flashed was for the EGR valve....he checked it out and found nothing wrong, so he reset the light.

My next door neighbor, who has a 240, told me he checked his ECU when his light came on by looking at the back and seeing what the flashing lights represented. Does anyone have a list of trouble codes? Thanks.

there is something right next to the egr vavle called a bpt valve kinda looks like the egr valve below it is a hose feel that hose on the outside of the bend. see if it feels like it has a hole in it. if it does it is what throughs an egr code. if not 240sx.org has a the code pulling procedure for nissan esm's and a list of codes.
