I have a 92 240sx base model coupe with manual windows/locks. A few months ago, my girlfriend rolled down the passenger window...there was sort of a clunking noise, and it wouldn't go back up. I managed to get it back up by pulling up on the window and kind of working it back and forth while she pushed the crank handle. Since it was winter, I just left it that way, since I didn't need to roll it down anyways. I installed front door speakers today, and decided to see if I could fix the window while I had the door apart. The window will roll down about 4 inches, then stop, and only move up and down about an inch. When I turn the handle, it makes sort of a grinding/crunching noise. I have the s13 200sx (australian, I think) FSM, but it doesn't really tell me a whole lot. I searched, and found just info on power windows. I can't see anything wrong with the assembly...but I don't really know what to look for either. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the window regulator is binding and the grinding noise is the cables that are twisting up and about to snap.

I have this same problem with my driver's side. when i intalled my speakers, i didn't see how you could open up the door and replace the window regulator (which i think would be the most straightforward way of fixing the problem). as you said, the FSM is no help at all, and i still have to fix mine. how did yours turn out?
