How much shorter is the driveshaft from an auto compared to the manual driveshaft....

because i was wondering... if it were say 1/2 in. shorter than the manual driveshaft wouldn't you use that for say and RB swap?

just a thought, maybe completely unfounded but a thought nonetheless

The driveshaft is in two sections balanced as a whole. The first section is the same for ABS and non-ABS, the second section is the one that is different. Do you have an A/T or M/T? Anyways figure it out for yourself. :)

1st section; same between ABS and non-ABSM/T = 421.0mm (16.57")A/T = 441.0mm (17.37")

2nd section; same between A/T and M/Tnon-ABS = 650.0mm (25.59")ABS = 636.0mm (25.04")

So if you have a manual, the ABS is 14mm shorter, which is about .55" shorter, the exact length the J30 LSD is longer than the non-ABS 240sx differential!! :)

does 'first section'=front?

Do I just need the rear section of the driveshaft for a non ABS auto to manual swap?

problem i jsut found about an hour ago is on an s14 probably the same for s13. my 95 has abs and was an auto. i'm almost done putting everything in (new engine and 5spd swap) went to put in the 5spd non-abs driveshaft that is almost the same lenght and it would fit. the problem i sthe brace that holds it up in between the two sections is off at least half an inch from the bolt holes. making it impossible to use. i jsut ordered an enjuku aluminum drive shaft

Well from what I was told from Jeff at Heavy Throttle, the AT's and the MT's have completely different parts that slide into the transmission. Thus, on my SR swap that's going to be a christmas present to my car, I've gotta get a new driveshaft as I'm on a slush going to a standard. Any one else able to verify that info though as I'm somewhat reluctant to blow 200 on a used one or 430 (which I'm strongly considering) for the aluminum one they've got.

My car is an 89 Auto w/o ABS. Can I just buy the rear drive shaft from a manual non-ABS and swap it? Or do I need the who drive shaft?

I was actually looking for clarification of 1st and 2nd.

I now have a non-abs manual driveshaft.

Maybe I didn't get a NON-ABS driveshaft? Here's what it looks like with everything bolted up but still on jack stands:

first off the 1st section of the drive shaft is the front(ie piece closest to the transmission) and the 2nd section is in back. the thing that kind of disturbs me is that you guys are talking about spliting up the drive shaft and using pieces from 2 different driveshafts to make one. this will only cause a mess of shaking due to the fact that all the factory nissan drive shafts are balanced as a whole and even has crimped in u joints so you cant even service them. i know this because i just replaced my drive shaft 2 days ago with one that i got from the junk yard for $30 while nissan was tellin me $618+ for a new one.
