I have been a fan of the Z32 for a very long time and now own a 93 N/A. Like everyone else I've searched the net for performance parts and cosmetic upgrades also. Right now my car is my daily driver and I want to keep it clean and tasteful. Which is the complete opposite of how I would build a drift/race car. Anyway, the tail lights i've found are horrible. The only ones that seem acceptable are the jdm tails. I want something very clean but different.....

Image

Pretty much what I imagine is a single smoked lens instead of the 3 len design. The round led lights and the 3rd brake light will all be placed behind this lens, similar to the tail lights of a G37. I in no way have the money or the knowledge to create this design, but other people may like the idea and make a few prototypes. Who knows...I was bored and now I'm sharing my idea.

So time for feedback, I know I suck at photoshop.........

that actually looks pretty sick i think with 300zx lit up in red in the middle would look sick. The middle just seems kind of plain.

that wouldn't work because it looks like the lights overlap into the hatch. So, unless you design something that will detach with the hatch, then it'll look exactly like the gtr taillight setups from ebay

Yea I thought about the overlap after I was done. I think it would be different than anything you buy on ebay because during the day it would look like stock tail lights that have been smoked. The only time you would see the lights are when they are turned on or if you hit the brake. And the GTR-ish lights are popular but in this way makes it unique IMO

^Makes sense to me OR maybe the hatch can lift independently from the single piece.

I'm all for it! That looks damn good in my opinion. If you could somehow make the hatch problem work, that would be my new favorite set up.

Very impressive, I think you can definitely pull it off specially because LED's arent expensive.

Ive been working on a rear bumper design recently too.

Im also looking into doing the front http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl0Iqq24nmo

edit
For your idea, I think you can use the existing tail lights by gutting them out and installing the LED's, then all you'd have to do is bolt on a long tinted plexiglass cover for it... I would also do research for the legalities of this for your state.

That guy fused a Porsche bumper into that car, its nice and bubbly but I prefer my design. I wish I had a fiberglass shop so that I can go wild with different designs.

Here's an idea... see if that TwinZ (TwinZ rear diffuser) guy from Peru or possibly that ANDY93Z (Clear headlight lens) guy will consider putting this idea into production. I think the interest is most definitely there and it doesn't look that complicated. It's worth a shot...

Well, one problem I can spot is that the lights can't span the gap between the hatch and the current tail lights... so it would be difficult to illuminate the top part as there is no place behind it.

This is the best you could do without serious modifications to the hatch part (still looks good, i sort of prefer it).

this part is just painted it is not recessed like it would need to be in your design:

^This is very true. I like the cut off sort of 3/4 circle looks good too. I think if someone does make this design they could just use slightly smaller led rings.

My submission to the ^ stated using the smaller circles....
In my mind i see the outer circle being the running lights but when you brake the other two come on, also when you use your turn signal they would work like the new mustang, idk i kinda like how they did that...

Is anybody any good at solidworks or autodesk? I'd love to see a 3D exploded rendering.

Would work, leave the light as a full panel. I am sure that panel is thicker than stock too.

Nice one, the problem with all of these could be legality issues with needing DOT stamped on them.
Stockers with extreme LED ftw
