Ok, so I saw something that really pissed me off tonight.

So, I was driving home from a friends house on Bloomingdale Ave, which is a 4-lane road with a turning lane all along it in the middle. Note that this is an extremely busy road. Ok:

I was pulling up to a stop light, it was green. So I continued through it. About 1 block after that light, there is another light, which is iinfront of a fire station. Now, I understand its purpose. It's for emergency situations, like when the firemen get a call or something like that.

Well, the light is normally green, but as I approached it, it turned yellow. I was like, "Ok, the firemen are probably going on a call or something." So then the light turns red. I'm like the 4th or 5th car back from the light. Well, I look at the entrance to the fire station, expecting to see a fire truck pulling out. But no such thing occured. In the entrance, there was one single vehicle. At first I really didn't get a good look at it. After the single car turned onto Bloomingdale, the light turned green again. Well, I looked at the car as is drove past me. And guess what I saw. It was a f**king pizza deliver man!

I was loike, "You have got to be f**king kidding me." The light that is supposed to be only for emergency situations was used for a freaking pizza man! And because of that light turning red, I would estimate that close to 50~100 cars had to stop for it. WTF is up with that?

Does anybody else see/read anything wrong with what occured?

"Heroes" - and I'd assume the light operates on a motion sensor

you should go and complain to them, i'm sure they'd love to hear what you have to say and would do whatever they could to remedy the problem.

and then ask for your address so that if you call, they reaspond whenever they feel like it.

What are you griping about? It probably is on a motion sensor/trip and at least a car was there!

I'm sick of having to stop at this one traffic light that is essentially there for a Gore (textile company) facility, that is obviously closed on the weekend. The light turns red, and they get a 4 min green light ..when no one is even there! It would'nt be so bad if it wasn't a one block distance between the previous traffic light, for a friggin bank that's closed on the weekend as well.

Yeah man. He has to get out some time. The light probably turns green automatically when it senses someone waiting anyway.

And in response to the thread title... there are always those few that gives the good people a bad name. There are bad cops, bad priests, bad soldiers, bad Americans, bad muslims. We are all bad because our people make us so.. get used to it, but see through it.

Um... So, you think that theyt live at the station? That is completely, utterly, wholey Untrue. Guess what, almost every single day, I see a fire truck, with full crew, parked at a near by grocery store. And no they didn't just park the truck there. They are inside shopping for food! And just wait, it gets even better, they are on the "clock" when they're at the grocery store! OMFG, getting paid to shop. And did you know that firemen are paid to sleep? On an average shift, which is 24hours on, 24hours off, a fireman will sleep about 8~10 hours/1. What a life. Getting paid to sleep!

You know what I'm going to do about it? I'm going to become a fireman. Then I can gain an extra 50~100Lbs, because I'm working so damn hard . Have you ever wondered why most firemen are over weight?

Just so you know, my uncle is a fireman.

I know this may upset most people, but please tell me what the firemen did on 9/11/01 that makes them heros? I know that they were "willing" to risk their own lives to try to save others, but that's their job.

I will call a single fireman a hero when I see them do something truely heroic, but to make broad sweeping generalizations that all firemen are heros is just plain insane

i didnt mean that the live there like its there house, but in the fact that they are there for like 24 hours as you said, like all people, they have to eat too.

and as for the second part, umm, i dont know how to answer that one

Yeah it's on a sensor. But the problem is that the light was specifically for emergency purposes only! A pizza man trying to leave the fire station is not classified as an emergency in my book .

P.S. I, nor my family, has every had a reason to call the fire department, or the police department for that matter. So they can take they merry time getting to my house when I don't call them

Yeah I know that they "have to eat" too. But have you ever noticed that the manjprity of firemen are over weight? Now, I know that there are those firemen who are not over weight, I know a few of them, but it seems that the majority is over weight.

Tell me, if they are working so hard, how come they are over weight? Could it possibly be that they are eating more then they are working?

Were there other entrances/exits for the fire station, besides that light?

Maybe the pizza delivery guy didn't know that it was for emergencies only.

IMO there's many other better things to complain about rather than firemen.

If this is tongue in cheek humor, it's lame.

When you have to work a 24hr shift, there isn't much time to hit the gym or eat right. Although not all firemen i see are overweight. Way to generalize

Hmmm. it would seem that you contracicted yourself in your own post.

About the sensor: it would make more sense to have the sensor tied directly into the alarm that goes off when they get a call. Wouldn't that make sense?

that would. then the pizza man could hang out at the station untill the next emergency.

lighten up. are you on an antifireman crusade? was there even a sign designating the "emergency only" stop light?

What's the deal here? A traffic light turns red because firemen are fat and evil? Why do you assume the traffic light is for emergencies only? It's a traffic light. In front of a driveway. Driveways are sometimes RIFE with vehicles. Your life is not ruined from the complete stop you had to make, is it?

No, then the pizza man could hang out there until the light that is a block away turned red.

Yes, hanging from the light it says, "Emergency Signal." And before it was installed, it was brought up at a "commerce" meeting. It was specifically labeled as, "For emergency use only."

To my knowledge, a fireman works long shifts. Example, a fireman will live at the station for 2 weeks and will be on call 24/7. But, the next 2 weeks he has off, and doesn't have to work. It may be different in certain areas, but thats how I thought it works since my friend is becoming a fireman and thats what he told me.

You know about as much about firefighters as you do about law enforcement officers.

Most people who couldn't possibly pass the requirements to become either are hyper-critical of them.

Why don't you go call one of them overweight wastes of taxpayer money IN PERSON?

You won't, because even the most out-of-shape fireman could snatch your spoiled, spoon-fed, petulant a$$ through a knothole.

What a freakin' crybaby. Shut up.

You are extremely ungrateful. Part of their job description is to put their safety and LIFE in danger to save YOURS. Even when they're off duty they're usually still on call. Their life is dedicated to saving other's 24/7/365. I hope for your sake you never need their services. Their job is one of the most selfless occupations on the planet.

So... what do you do for a living?

From the title, I was half-expecting the irony of sport figures being paid millions of dollars whilst the real heroes [i.e. firemen, policemen, teachers etc...] get paid squat. But of course, only you would make such a thread.

Oh, and the light operates on a motion sensor.

Your speaking priviledges are revoked.

Some thanks they get for saving peoples life on a daily basis.

And to be honest, no one ever thought about those guys before 9-11. They are finally getting the respect they deserve, and it had to take a a bunch of them getting killed while trying to save the lives of thousands.

PM, Dont get me wrong, not hating on you. But you could try cutting them some slack. They are willing to go through Hell, literaly to save you and your family.

Do you have any clue what it's like to crawl through a burning house??? I do. Do you have any ideal what kind of training they have to go through on a continous basis??? I do.

The dangers of their job are hugh. Everything from getting run down on a wreck scene, building collapse, flash over, back draft, Haz Mat spills, and on and on. The lucky ones get to go home and see their kids and wife. The unlucky ones, dont get to see anything anymore.

So hey, how about easing up a bit on those bad ole firefighter.

(Startown Volunteer Fire Department, 1992-2000)

EDIT:After reading more of your posts, Yeah, I am hating on you. Stop being such and ***. Your uncle should dis-own you.
