GOOD NEWS, MATES !

If you bought your M used, its possible you already have the XM module installed ( or so I was told by the XM peeps - they said most M's have the modules since 2005 and up).
Push your 'radio' button until you get to XM and if you hear XM 1 - the advert channel, then you already have the XM module in your car. Use the tuner knob and go down 1 step to channel 0 and it gives you your specific radio ID#.
Jot that down, also fetch your car's VIN and call 1-888-601-6271 and tell them you are a potential customer and would like a 3-month trial to see if you are interested in becoming a subscriber.
I just did that and 5 min later I got 3 months free - was just in the garage blasting BPM and doing my I-pod dance LOL.
The only downside is that the NAV-Traffic service is not available on my existing module (2007) - if I want the 24/7 Nav Traffic I need to upgrade to a newer module. Now I have 3 months of BPM !! plus a gajillion more choices.

Bumping this thread up and also big thanks for it.
Anyways after reading this thread I recalled sales person selling me the m in april 2009 stating that he could install XM radio in my m $250 .I had a feeling that the module was there but today after lunch I decided to take the upper trunk liner off to see and what a discovery, it was there " unplugged "
Its a 08 M35 Base

I just purchased my 2012 M56S a week and a half ago; XM and traffic already working. I am assuming whoever owned it before did not deactivate. I will let that run its course and then call for my free trial. :chuckle:

As I hope everyone knows: NEVER give XM/Sirius any CC info! Tell them to mail you a paper statement. Also, be SURE to cancel BEFORE you 3 month trial auto-renews. Otherwise, they will try and charge you at going rates.

Well done, Partysan ! I was never asked for my CC number either. And you don't have to remember to cancel your free 3 months - they will deactivate your unit at the end unless you DO call them to set up an ongoing subscription so forget about them just 'charging you the going rate' (which I believe is under $20 per month).
I love BPM and Electric Area (channel 51, 52)- I also like the traffic / weather channels and CNN as well.
For those who don't really care if the news is accurate, they even have FOX news LOL.

Good to know; they have obviously changed their policies since I last dealt with them. Many stories on multiple forums about the joys of dealing with XM/Sirius.

Partysan7: are you the original owner? If not, I am wondering if possibly the previous owner had the USA-Spec iPod interface in there at one time, and removed it. That would be a possible explanation as to why the sat tuner was unplugged..... just a thought.

Thank you for the pics, Partysan! I now see the Ho-Bo quality sound deadening material Infiniti used. That surprises me. The rest of the car, the features, the design, etc would lead me to think they used a more effective material up there. When next I'm in the mood to contort my 6' 3" body into the trunk, I will layer that area with DynaMat. When I removed the trunk liner to do my turn signals, I installed some over the bare metal on the bottom of the trunk and I still have enough to do that deck lid I hope.
Cheers!

I haven't had XM for very long. They gave me a free 90-day subscription (with no CC#, no billing info needed) when I found out my M was equipped for it. That free period was to end in June so I contacted them before it stopped at which time they offered me 3 additional months for about $25.00 (reg rate was $45) and I took it. They took my billing info at that time and told me that at the end of the 3 additional months it will renew on auto at the rate of $14.95 monthly .. or ... I can change that at anytime and opt for a quarterly rate of $43.47 (no discount off reg monthly rate), a yearly rate of $159 (with one month free), or a 3-yr rate of $449 (with 5 months free). There was no mention of a 'lifetime' rate so maybe they no longer offer it.
To date, I have 6 months of XM for $25.00 US - a great deal!
I must say that when I've called them about anything, they have been very polite and professional and seems they want you to know exactly what you're signing for and what you will get / not get. Seemsthey have upgraded their staff and policies because I have no worries about what I've paid for and no worries about what I'm going to pay in the future.
