Ok, so according to how the stick shift was feeling (and some friends' input) I thought I had to replace the shifter lever bushings... so I got the bushings and today I'm outside about to replace them and I come across this:

What's the proper name for this? (SHIFTER SUPPORT BRACKET) It seems I have to replace the metal plate assembly as a whole because that rubber piece that's broken is riveted...

Thanks a million man... the IPP ones seems to replace the rubber with metal which is another no brainer over OEM crap, lol... I was just in Houston and picked up the bronze shifter bushings from Kyle (great guy btw) I wish I had looked into this before I left to Houston on the weekend, oh well.

P.S. Can anybody tell me from this pictures where exactly are the bushings I need to replace? I was dumbfounded by this bracket being all broken so I didnt push on to replace the bushings today.

Should I replace the bushings even if I dont need to? Basically do it as an upgrade since I have metal ones now? Or return it to IPP for credit for the shifter support bracket?

Just do it now as a preventative maintenance, you will thank yourself later :bigthumb:

The bracket Biggs linked to is an OEM replacement. Rubber and metal. It'll work just fine, for another 20 years.

This, is the only real solution to eliminate all rubber in the shifter system

It's an excellent product and Joe is a hell of a guy as well.

The shifter bushings are directly below the pivot in your second shot. They go into the shifter, and then a bolt goes through them, and through the yoke going from the shifter to the transmission.

Sorry to hear about the bracket lol but like said it's a known issue with the old rubber, something you will want to get fixed asap though as it will rub the driveshaft unless you hold it up the entire time you drive. As for the bushings they are a bit of a pain to get to from inside the car the first time as it takes some figuring out on how to place your hands in their. Put the bushings in the freezer it will help when you go to install them.

Here is a write up to help.

Agreed and knowing that it replaces all of this, it is well worth the price:

installed in my Z:

and the upper boot to block out the heat and transmission noise:

and a pic of it mocked up on a spare trans

It is amazing just how crisp and precise the shifter feels with this upgrade. It is by far one of my favorite modifications.

Thanks for Tony, I did notice after I wrote that that I was just the regular one, that other one it's pretty cool but I'll stick to the OEM one for $20 more years, lol... tho it's tempting to buy one, given all the input about the hi-speed one from the guys.

Yes, annoying!!! ...and that's exactly what I do, hold it up as a drive, lol... I let go of it by mistakes some times and you think the car is going to fall apart, lol.

I didnt know it was the driveshaft it was rubbing until yesterday when I got ready to install the bushings. Pretty obvious once you take all the stuff off.

you will definitely notice a difference in the sound of the car after you finish replacing all the rubber..

i probably paid around $40 for all the rubber parts, and another $30 for a custom shifter boot to match the interior. worth it!
oh, and $11.25 for the shifter bushings from nissan dealers... go with bronze. my shifter is not as tight as it was a year ago.. and it's not worth it sacrificing on the $$ for a part that will wear out that quickly in THAT sort of location..
