WINDSHIELD MAKES A POPPING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. I AM UNABLE TO TELL WHERE IT COMES FROM BUT APPEARS TO BE AROUND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM OR CAN HELP. G37X 2011 COUPE.

I've got the same issue on my 2008 G sedan. It's been a annoyance since I've had the car, but I'm getting my windshield replaced, so I'm dealing with it until then.

Acoustics in the G can make sounds appear all over. The passenger seat belt sounds like it's coming from the dash when rattling against the console and I've had stuff making noises in the glove box that did similar. Some have reported similar noises which ended up being from the sunglass holder in the headliner (pushing on it would tell you if this is the issue). The right-side of the gauge cluster will make noises as well.

From a windshield perspective I, and others, have had popping/rattles that seem to be coming from the inside of the windshield/dash area but are actually caused by the outside plastic cowl cover scraping against the glass. The cowl cover is the lower plastic section at the bottom of the windshield. You can remove the cowl panels and they have a thin felt-ish strip on them where they touch the glass (IIRC) but it's not enough...you can even see where the plastic rubs the windshield. General maintenance can be performed to usually get rid of the noise...some will spray WD40 at the base of the windshield so it runs/coats the underside of those panels, add thicker felt, put some shims under the cowl panels to keep it off the window. Personally I have a spray bottle of RainX and I saturate the glass right at the cowl so it runs/penetrates behind it and that has gotten rid of my noise.

If you want to remove the cowl and look then the procedures are pretty easy and you can look at my battery-replacement how-to to see how I removed the right half: http://www.infinitig37.com/G37-battery-replacement.html

So funny to run across this, I heard a popping noise from my windshield on my way to work within the last two weeks. (G37x coupe). I wondered if there was ice or something, it was a cold morning. But it went away by the time I went home that day, and has not come back.
But it was odd, and certainly seemed to be coming from inside the windshield. I had never heard it before.
Thanks for the thoughtful response.

I have a 2013 G37x Couple and have noticed this noise but it seems to do it only when the temperature is ABOVE 40 degrees. And the warmer the weather the worse the noise. Sounds like its at the base of the windshield but then at times at the top of the windshield. Had Nissan dealer put the felt on and while its better it still happens a lot and is ruining this car for me.

Does Infinti acknowledge this problem at all??? I am going to venture a guess of NO.

There is no official TSB on this issue. I took my cowl apart and cleaned underneath. I've not had the issue in a few years.

I had the same issue...I just sprayed some silicon on the windshield by the cowl and let it run down and soak in between the cowl and the glass. After a few minutes I wiped the spray off the windshield and I haven't had the sound since.

I brought the car in to Willow Grove Pa Infiniti - service manger was very nice. Said he has seen a lot of this -especially in the winter although mine did not make any noise in the winter - he said it was the plastic cowling and that they did something or other to it. Have driven the car about 5 hours since over all sorts of roads and speeds and so far I have not heard anything. So I am hoping that it is fixed. I think I am on hyper-alert now for any noise. So I need to dial down my own expectations. A car with 25K miles on it is going to make some noises here and there. At least I need to tell myself that. Anyway - if anyone is having the issue you could try calling Willow Grove and they may be able to help you.
