My 93 Q45 differential has whining pinion bearings. My teenager wrecked my 94 Q45a, so I now have a parts car. Will the differential from the 1994 Q45a fit the 1993 Q45? Also, if anyone needs parts, the front of my pristine Q45a is now crunched in so I will be parting it out and then sending it to the junkyard in the sky.

The only difference between the differentials TCS vs non TCS. the TCS diff is shorter than a non-TCS diff (since it has speed sensors on the output flanges rather than the single speed sensor on the input flange). So if they're both TCS or both Non TCS you're golden.. :)

Looks like I am out of luck on this one - the 94 Q45a has TCS and the 93 Q45 does not. So how involved is replacing the pinion bearings in a 93 Q45 differential? My mechanic has never done it.

Wes... what would you have to swap out from the TCS rear end to make it compatible? I'm guessing if swapped out the entire rear end, it you could use the TCS stuff on the non-TCS car and just not connect those sensors.

I will see if I can get my computer-oriented teenager to upload a picture of the car. It's the least he can do since he wrecked it! It's a really nice ivory (white) with matching interior, that is, if you can overlook that the front end of the car has been crunched in about a foot. It's sitting in my driveway right now but it won't be long before the wife starts with the comments, like "Enough already that you have 3 of these old relics lurking around the house, and now you're starting a junk yard?" And I just put Texasoil accumulators in it 1,000 miles ago!

Heath, actually what you would need is the driveshaft. Getting the ABS to work might be a little tricky, maybe you just hook it up to one sensor? Everything else in the rear end is fine. I don't believe the half shafts are any different.

Just mention to him that the pictures have to be posted somewhere (like photobucket or picasa) and then linked here. He'll be able to take it from there. There's a sticky on the main page about posting pics too...
