why is the motor knocking, and my oil light on
reved it to 5500 rpms and it did well. when i got off the freeway i heard what i think are the lifters, or rockerarms knocking and my oil light was on. it still drives the same, but its a little loud. whos had the same problem. im new to 240's so can u guys help me out. thanks

What year is the car? Either way you are out of oil and it's probably rods knocking.
The oil light comes on at anything less than 7psi of oil. By then the damage is done and it's just a change engine light...

hehe, change engine light.... i like that one.
a while back my engine was low on oil and there was a slight knock, changed the oil and filled it up and everything was fine in my SOHC.

you might want to check this website out http://www.car-part.com, buy yourself a new block and whatever else is damaged, sounds like exactly what happened to me about a year ago. good luck with that.
either you went low on oil or your oil pump just stopped working(mine did after ~185k miles, or maybe it was 1 of the seals that helped it suck oil), but now that yer motor is knocking, especially @ 2-3k rpm's, that most likely means the rod bearings are bad and need replacing, maybe the crank is bad too now.
btw my engine ran fine till 1 day i revved to 6k rpms and the oil light came on:), then i got rod knocking and the cam journals in the head got messed up from low oil.
