Hi everyone. Let me first start off by saying I'm a total newb to Infinity and nissan. After reading through all the info on Nico I quickly see that this is one of the finest forums out there. There is no other make of car that has a forum as badd *** like this one. Seriously.

So I'm looking at buying my first nissan product and I've found a couple of 97 Q45's.

I have an obdII scanner but since I've had no hands on time with a Q yet I don't know where to start.

I read through all the great articles already for 1st gen and 2nd gen Q's and I learned a ton. But after trying to search on this crap computer I'm using I think it would be better to ask for some help. The pages load really slow on this computer for some reason with Nico.

So can anynone tell me where the port is at that I'll be connecting this scanner to?Any tips of what to look out for when going to buy a Q??I've worked on cars since high school so I know what to listen for on a motor, what the trans should not feel like, and what to inspect on suspension and frame. Any other tips??

Thanks in advance.

OBD port is about where your left knee is under the steering wheel.

If your looking at 97+-they are the best used car bargain on the planet-no caveats for this model other than regular maintenance.

The Downloadable *.pdf FSM has a page or 5 for each OBD2 code. Read code, lookup page, and read yourself thru the repair solution process.

What most fail to do is to RESEARCH HOW the ecu decides whether to show a code or not and various groups of codes have different high/low voltage/signal parameters.

A 20% error in a 1.2 volt MAF signal is one thing as it can read 15% lower in Denver than Dallas and be perfectly normal.

You must understand that varying temps and barometer are why there is a +- 20% GOOD range in many sensors yet a 5% difference can be bad when you correct for atmospheric differences!

Not having a code doesn't mean things are PERFECT just that they haven't REACHED THE CRITICAL POINT YET!..................or some defect in diagnostic software got thru or something else is fooling the diagnostics.

The old fashioned replace the part/sensor method usually works if the light goes out or a reset doesn't come back in 30 days.

A MS in Computer Science is always useful on the tough problems.

Spelling the marque Infinity is a dead newb give away. We try to stick to facts and not WAG.

Read the buying guide sticky above. 1997 and 1998 are good cars, but 1999+ are better for advanced safety features.

If you can use your five senses rather than instrumentation to judge a car's mechanical condition, you are way ahead of anyone here.

Welcome to NICO.
