What octane rated fuel do you use?

Postby victore1123 » Sun Sep 28, 2008 2:58 pm

Just curious what fuel everyone is putting in their hybrid. I've been using 87 octane, but I think I should be using atleast 91...?

I've been using 87 octane without any problems. Why would you use 91?

I was flipping through the owners manual yesterday and i thought i saw it recommend 91... I've been using 87 since i've had the car going on about 7,000+ miles without any issues... I guess I just thought maybe i'd try it out for a month and see what happens.

I have a 2008 hybrid and the owners manual states "Use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research octane number 91).

I think the way that the fuel recommendation is worded in the owner's manual can be a bit confusing... EDIT: ^I see GR8 BUY beat me to the quote.

Here's a decent explanation of octane ratings, from Wikipedia.

I've been using 87. I tried a tank of 92 but, didn't notice any changes (mpg/knocking) so, I figured 87 would be just fine. My previous car was a Subaru WRX. This car required premium fuel, and demonstrated performance differences, with a slight difference in mpg, when I used lower octane. That said, I put 87 in the car anyway.

Interesting...that answers my question then. I wasn't sure if I should go off of the AKI or RON. Thanks for the info...

Yup, use 87. RON/MON = AKI
