2001 Maxima SE 66,000 miles

About 37,000 miles - coil pack failure - my inexperience cost me $550 at the dealership for a job I could have done myself for less than half that.

About 43,000 miles - pre-cat o2 sensor failure. Bought the sensors and the wrench kit for $125 and replaced them myself.

About 53,000 miles - wheel bearing failure. Waited too long to get it fixed and damaged the hub also. $500 at a local shop with a technician that used to work at the Nissan dealership. It was over $300 in parts, I can only imagine what the dealership would have charged me.

About 60,000 miles - post-cat O2 failure. $100 in sensors and I already had the wrench kit and the experience for this job!

I was lucky to have gotten the car for less than blue book and so I don't feel like it has been too expensive to own. I love the car. The coil packs are the only thing I think Nissan screwed me on, as there was a lot of failures around 30,000 miles on this year and the previous and they were just crappy packs. I am hoping my next car will be a 350Z, but another Maxima wouldn't be bad either. Love my Nissans, they're all I've ever driven.

96 I30

180k timing chain cover started leaking. Infiniti of Montclair are crooks and charged full price but only replaced the one seal. The rest of them started to leak one after another. Also windshield wiper pump died and trunk latch stopped latching (why can't Infiniti use stronger steel on it's trunk latches?)

200k Rear Struts and Radiator

220k Radiator Fan Shroud and Bose HU started malfunctioning

2001 I30

~15K power seat motor failure (prior to me owning the car)~30K Alternator failure (prior to me owning the car)~71K power seat motor failure AGAIN

Power seat motors and alternators seem to be common issues. No transmission issues, but it's had fluid changes every 35K according to service records.

I second that previous black on black I35. Purchased with 32k miles in 2006. Currently has 61k miles on the odometer.

Have replaced: throttle position sensor (TPS), transmission valve body (covered by warranty), several sets of tires, 2 alignments (shop couldn't get it right the 1st time), remote entry module, and last but not least, a new battery and alternator.

I have never had good luck with ANY car whether its brand new or 20 years old. From my experience, routine maintenance never seems to be enough. There's always something expensive waiting to break.
