I prefer RedLine MT-90. Great stuff. I had a bit of a snag getting into 2nd, and switching to the MT-90 helped a lot.

You can use any gear oil so long as it's a GL-4 type. Redline oils are GL-4...Apparently something about GL-5's additives mess with the brass synchros in Nissan transmissions. If you want to be the ultimate Nissan fanboy, head to your local dealer and ask them for manual trans fluid P/N 999MP-MTF00P(which is 75W-85 GL4).

Don't be too picky with the weights as it's not that big of a deal. I'm running Redline Heavy Shockproof gear oil in my trans and that stuff is like 75w250 or something

how many quarts are needed to fill the KA trannies?

I was thinking of getting 3 quarts of 75/90 and 1 quart of the synchromesh from royal purple. does that sound about right?

Thanks,

Tomek

HA! I use coastal 75/85w and its the heat. Its also cheaper than water. All my friends were in shock when I started filling it up, but hey, they suck and I rule. "Use some $5/oz redline fluid" they said! Then my buddy changed the fluid in his diff with some medline stuff and it whined like a sonofabitch. Replaced with coastal for $2 and SHAZAM! silent but deadly baby.

wrong... WRONG. GL-5 Oils deteriorate brass and other yellow metals, guess what most Nissan 5 speed tranny snychros are made of? Yep that's right brass.

I will "3rd" that. I swapped in Mobil 1 GL5 synthetic and I did have some grinding going into 1st, and during quick shifts 1-2 and 2-3. Put in the GL4 Redline and it saved the day. While my tranny shifts fine, I still get the occasional gear crunch. You are better off using GL4 regular gear oil than getting the wrong synthetic...

I'm sorry to bring up this old thread, but I was searching for a good dealer to purchase the Redline MT-90 fluid from.

All the online dealers are charging an a$$ load of money just to ship the stuff. Are there any chain auto parts store that have this stuff in stock?

I have been searching for about three days now. Any help is certainly appreciated!

My local independent BMW service center stocks all Red Line products. You may want to check around w/service centers (independent are cheaper) I know BMW and VW both use Red Line products
