What are you guys using as lift points to hoist the engine out?

Have not done this in a while, and the last time I did I had my factory lift hook installed on the exhaust side. I have removed that hook since then.

Have any of you had luck removing it without this hook? I was thinking about using chains and wrapping them thru the I and E manifolds.

Anything better?

yea you could do that, or thread a bolt into where the hook used to be through a chain link and then wrap the other side around the intake mani or do the same thing.

using the manifolds will work, but I prefer using the lift hook thing if you still have it. I leave mine off until I need to pull the engine, then on it goes. You need to support the back end of the engine, so the tranny doesn't scrape the ground if you pull it all as one piece, so I usually wrap a chain around something back there to stabilize it.

EDIT: Damn you Greg, every freaking time!

I prefer to put the chains through the motor mount brackets so they lift all the weight, and only pass the chain "through" the manifolds just to stabilize it. this way you don't put too much stress on the manifolds.

usually if im pulling the motor, somethins wrong internally, so i usually just yank the head, and then grab the rest by motor mounts. this last time thats what i did

Pulled it last night, I used the bracket connecting to block and intake manifold (nice loop in there to go through) and wrapped other end of chain around exhaust manifold.

Thanks all.
