Okay, it runs well, but doesn't recognise my photo printer. HP doesn't have a driver for it, and is substituting one from a different printer, but that sucks, since it's not formatted for 4x6 paper.

Vista does run very fast, and blows XP out of the water as far as processor efficency. The way everything is laid out is cool (will take some getting used to) and easily navigable. The search bar is more accurate and faster than XP search.

Not sure if I like it more than XP, but after I get used to it, I'm sure it'll be just fine.

I will stay away from it until it proves itself and all software products have been "converted". I've heard bad things about it so only time will tell.

I paid $20. ( a 5 pound bag of coffee) for a legal, full version of Vista Enterprise. At that price, it was too good a buy to pass up.

I'm not gonna lie, I don't mind Vista so much at the moment. I got Ultimate free through my college and just built a new computer, so I thought I'd throw it on here on a new partition. It only took 10 minutes to install...yeah, only 10! Craziness!

So far no problems yet. I haven't had any compatibility issues with programs or hardware that have vista drivers. One nuisance is this cancel or allow trash. Anytime I click on something I get "Cancel or allow, uknown publisher".

Edit: I haven't played any DVD's or movies yet, but I did upload some music that "used" to be DRM protected and it seemed to work fine. But I have had some trouble playing videos in my web browser bc I'm missing some "DRM Plugins". I don't know if it's because I'm running Mozilla, or bc content online has be to DRM enabled.

Well, using it more, I find out that Vista Enterprise doesn't have a DVD burner, and the ones available for Vista are either ridiculously expensive, or don't work worth a poop. At this point I am truly considering reinstalling XP. This has just been one enormous PITA from the get go.

A friend of mine just got A+ certified by Dell and works in their customer support department. He has NOTHING good to say about Vista. He works with a guy who did Vista beta testing. The guy said he reinstalled XP the second his beta test period was over becuase he couldn't stand Vista.

Like Matt, I'll stick with XP until Vista is ironed out.I'm not really looking forward to dedicating yet MORE system memory to a RAM hog OS, but once DX10 is commonly supported I guess it'll be worth it.

Really, VISTA has nothing to iron out. It's the third party like HP, nVidia, Nero, etc that has to catch up wit the new OS.Basically put. Vista is the most stable OS in infancy. Very efficient once you have enough memory (1GB+) and capable graphic card.

I understand that it is not Vista, but the fact that HP has not released a driver for my printer that is Vista ready. However, I do like to print pictures, so reverting to XP until everyone else has caught up to Vista may be an option. Just as well, my Nvidia 7800 card has had no problems at all with Vista. It works just fine. FWIW, the graphics and speed that it processes at are awesome, and completely own XP.

Hmmmm. Vista the OS is ok. It just has a nasty habit of making computers that should be nimble athletes into geriatric old women.

If you are running a dual core processor and 2 gigs of ram, Vista will impress you. That is what I am running, and it is way faster, and "nimble" as compared to XP. Also, when I have multiple apps open in Vista, everything is cool. In XP, I had "major system failure" and got the "windows needs to shut down" message more times than necessary.

I also couldn't live without the media center, so I went and paid for the Home Premium edition.

Vista intrigues me, but not enough for me to actually buy and switch from XP. I'll probably only end up using it on some future new computer that I buy...

I actually like it, I haven't had any unsurmountable problems yet (thank goodness Alcohol 120 finally updated to work with vista). I find it to be faster than XP (which I still have on my RAID0), and after abit of navigation to figure out where everything is, it seems to about on par as far as simplicity. I got it about a week after it came out, so I've been using it for quite some time. Now if I could just get my network adapter drivers working in OSX on here.....

After using the home version, I like it a lot more. There is a lot more for me to explore on this system, before I can say too much more though.

I am running ultimate 32bit on an older system and it runs just as good, if not better then XP ever ran on that system. I've surprisingly enough only had it crash once since I got it. I also have a new Dell Inspirion 1501 laptop that I ordered with Vista. 64bit processor and 1gig ram...you'd think they would take the effort and ship/install a 64bit version with it huh? Nope, and the key won't work with a 64bit version either. So I bought a second license through the windows family shareing deal they have when you buy ultimate and am now running Vista Home Premium 64bit on the laptop. I do have to say, it is a very nice system. However, my benchmark on the laptop is a 3, and my desktop is 3.6. So they aren't screaming systems but I can play games on my desktop without any problems and my laptop works fine for surfing the internet, checking email and watching movies and stuff from bed or downstairs. It will soon act as my wireless adapter for my 360 since the MS one I have is crappy as hell.

Has anyone tried using torrent software, mp3 or dvd conversion software with Vista?

Everyday since I installed it. Mainly uTorrent. I've also used a few omg -> avi and mkv -> avi utilities then avi - ipod video conversion utilities as well. All without a flaw.

Interesting. I wonder what the "Beta" testers were complaining about. Sounded like Vista had some form of MPAA regulatory crap in it.....

Ive had Vista installed about 2 weeks since I managed to completely corrupt my HDD's. A terabyte of data down the drain... Sigh.. But yea, now I have Vista set up the same as my XP and everything works fine. Torrent's, video converters, all that jazz and no problems.

the main people who have been having issues with Vista are gamers.. its such a memory hog to begin with that you have to have a VERY current system to run some of the new games, and microsoft keeps pushing companies to make Vista only games.. which really sucks.. though for a lot of the games that are listed as vista only, (halo 2, shadowrun) hacker groupd like warez, Razor1911, have already made patches that make them run with XP.. in tha case of Shadowrun it actually works BETTER with XP, i however have no persoanl experience with the halo2 patch to know whow well it does work.. what actually sucks the most is that while a lot of people do build there own computers like me, the majority of people still do not, and when some gamers see that the games are now "vista only" they might have to spend countless $$$ on either a new computer or completely upgrading the one that they have so that they can run vista AND the newer games, in some cases considering that some of the vista only games are also available on 360 its just about cheaper to simply buy a 360 and the game then deal with it, considering that with some of the vista only games you paly on the same servers as the 360 players.. kinda like they are trying to force people into getting a 360... just my 2 cents.. but ill keep running XP for awhile till they get everything compatible and i have the money to upgrade
