The S13's have a different design than the S14/S15s. The casting is different between an early model and late model SR. One thing I've been meaning to check out is if the S14 and S15 share a pump design or not. I would assume so since the motors are practically identical, but you never know with Nissan.

what about vice versa? i know the s14 pump will fit the s13 but one of the bolt holes doesn't line up...... would that pose a big problem?

uh yeah, missing a bolt like that would be a big problem.

also, the casting of the pumps are different, as is the casting in the block. There is no cross platform swapping of the different generations.

this makes clear sense to me that if u tried using s14 pump, since one bolt whole dont line up it would leak /be a big issue... but on frsport its stated that "S14 SR20DET water pump is also considered as an "upgrade" for S13 SR20DET motors due to the fact of redesigned pump for better flow. It bolts up the same on the S13 SR20DET, but does not use one mounting hole that the S14 has. Many has done this small upgrade and is running fine in the S13 SR20DET motor." sooo i just got my extra block and head that im building and was considering this.. any info or input would be apprecitate

I have physically had both the pumps next to each other.

S14 pump

S13 pump

Notice how the impellors sit in different positions? The S14 pump is recessed into the pump itself where the S13 pump is flat and the impellor sits way out. The S14 gets away with this by having extra castings in the block to direct flow to the fins. The s13 lacks those flow castings, so while I can see the pump physically sitting in the block, I can't see it doing what it's intended to do.

This is just me talking, but I cannot see the S14 pump flowing better than the S13 pump on an S13 block. If someone can show me empirical data supporting what frsports claims (which they say in really bad english I might add), I could be persuaded to change my song. Until then, I would recommend S13 owners stick to S13 pumps and S14 owners stick to S14 pumps (not that an S14 owner could fit an S13 pump to their block)

Which is why you order a pump that matches your block.

S14 water pumps work fine on an S15 motor. I learned that tidbit when I found out that I recieved an S15 motor and thought is was the S14 engine that I actually paid for.

i ordered an s13 water pump from frsport, along with some other things. they called me later that day and told me the s13 wp's were on back order from japan. they also said they could substitute it with an s14 wp "which is considered an upgrade for the s13". he said (whoever i talked to) it has an extra bolt hole, but he was running it on his s13 and its never leaked. i recently installed the wp but the motor is still out of the car. if i have any problems ill post up on here about it.

they are the same price so its not like they are saying this to get money....i dont see what they would gain by doing this if it didnt work. just a thought.
