Call around for another quote. If that doesnt get better you might want to check a comunity college and see if their auto department works on customers car. Ours did.

The water pump is outside the timing belt and should be able to be replaced without touching the timing belt.

That said, your service interval for that belt on a VG30 is every 60k, so if it hasn't been done in a while, and you have to do that much disassembly anyways, it's a good time to do it.

chazz do you have two user names, and post the same thing twice?

and if its the vg im pretty sure you just have to remove the covers not the timing belt itself

My dad is actually on here too and i think he has a real similar user name. just in case you guys were curious i do need to remove my timing belt i got lucky enough to have a friend whos dad is a nissan mechanic and is willing to come to my house and work on my car so with everything said and done im out 100 bucks in parts. i just didnt know how to replace timing belt and put it back on without my engine seizing so i was playing it safe. maybe someday ill be able to change my own timing belt but thanks for the suggestions!

if your gonna replace the waterpump you should go ahead and replace the belt it's not hard the new belt has the marks on it just line up the dots on the gears with the lines on the belt.
