Looking to swap a VQ35 into an S13. There's alot less info out there than I thought.

What are people doing in order to have a working cluster? Can it be wired into the S13 stock cluster?

Well, I am either going to get a Dakota Digital Tach signal converter or figure out how to build a 2/3 Frequency Divider circuit ( 2 out for every 3 in ). For speedo, since you are removing the stock VSS (vehicle speed sensor) that is located in the transmission, you have two real options. Either buy a differential with an ABS sensor to use as a VSS, or buy a universal driveshaft magnetic rotation sensor. Either way I think your going to be using some sort of converter to get the right MPH on the speedo.

I know its not exactly a cluster but you could always just throw a gps with speed display on the windshield and call it a day.I know thats half A**, but if you figure something out please let us know.

Its really dependent on what ecu you are using, of course you can use custom gauges. But if you are using a 350z ecu or a maxima "black" ecu then you have to use their clusters.

I am currently using a '02 Maxima cluster because I am using an 02 maxima ecu, but I will be switching over to my 240sx cluster pretty soon once the wiring is cleaned up.

Another option for the speedo -- I'm using a 1996 Q45 diff which comes with a speed sensor built in. It bolts in to my s14 and probably an s13. It is a little longer and uses a different size yoke but thats no big deal because you will need to have a new drivelne made anyway and the drive line shop can make it to fit the Q45 yoke just as easily and won't cost you any more for the driveline than if you use the stock rear end.
Side benefits:
1. The Q45 comes with a VLSD. ( I didn't use it. I used a Helical S15 diff which is a bolt in. Fits perfectly.)
2. The early Q45 (pre 1997 I think) comes with the same 3:54 gear ratio as the stock 350Z.
3. The diff is cheap and can be found in U-pullit yards across the country.
This is a very easy and cheap swap that solves your speedo, gear ratio and limited slip problems.

Could you change the ring gear out with one from the S14/S13? to get back to a closer gear?

You can either swap the entire wiring system will all ecus from a 350z and use the z cluster or just put in aftermarket guages.
