Hey all,

What type of spring compressor do you all use for removing the valves and springs from the cylinder block? I read the KD 3087 is supposed to do the trick, but thought I'd ask what's what.

I used the Ben-Ford 2000. Worked perfectly!

T45, I'm always impressed with people who can improvise. I do the same. I'm a newbie to welding though, but I will be learning that this year.

Carl H, thanks for the link. That looks like THE tool I need.

Ah, it bugs the crap out of me everytime I need to buy something. Some of the random thoughts that go through my mind are...

Do I really need it?How much can I buy it for?How much can I buy it for on ebay? How much would it cost me to make it?How much time would it take to make it?

So when it came time to get a valve spring compressor I started looking on a sunday evening. Wow, the ones I found were like 100+ and the cheap ones were...cheap.

Not wanting to spend cash on something I'll use once a year or less I went into the garage and started digging around. It didn't cost much, some angle, a 7/8 deep well, 1/2 socket and an old c-clamp. Probably about 10 bucks worth.

And the best part is that it took about an hour to make it and I was pulling valves that sunday night instead waiting on da ups man.
