I've just finished putting a 1UZFE into a Commodore wagon at work. I took it for a test drive this afternoon and was absolutely disappointed. The lack of torque compared to what my Merc pumps out was well and truly noticeable. I'll never look at a 1UZ the same again.

Hahaha, I've been convincing people that the VH is superior to the 1UZ for a long time now! The 1UZ is well suited to modification, lengthy discussion with a guy who ports stockcar race heads on them has revealed there's much more potential in them than what their stock setup reveals.

Having said that however, I'd still always rather have a VH.

Pretty obvious when in bits. Appears toyota has skimpt on less than ideal valve/chamber design, causing this at a guess probably in a quest for good looks and smaller size. Since the 1uz appears to be essentually 2 x 3s-fe corona motors, not 2 x 3s-ge as would if they used the wide cyl heads with a good inlet AND exhaust angle. Ex angle ****e. I thought they were single-cam when I first saw them!I guess thats why the toyota is approx 50mm narrower.Nearly bought a 1uz '92 hilux last month, but apart from being a **** ride it was thirsty on gas and flat down low. just as I expected. It was the overall cond as it still sounded nice once caned. NEVER expect v8 torque from the toyota v8 .You will always have reasonable torque with the VH. With the toyota u will never have torque (from every 1uz ive ever been in modded or not), though revved they can go well (like most good motors). Not biased (much) but just the nature of the beast!

I race against a few guys who have 1uz Hiluxs and they all have the same issues with keeping revs up to keep the power on. They all have problems with lack of low torque. With boost at 2k and 10lbs at 3k, I have the opposite problem where I have to keep the revs down to keep it controlable. The problem is more and more are starting to see the light so I'll be racing a few VH powered trucks before very long. I know of at least 2 that are in the process right now. One NA and one supercharged!
